Luca's POV My eyes opened to the lights in my room flickering, I sat up and continued staring at it. “Maybe she really needs to call the electrician...” I stepped into the shower next, the water ran down my body. Memories of what happened the previous night flowed in. I was still struggling to comprehend what I got myself into. After bathing, I immediately grabbed my phone and stepped out of the room. I stared around, Lyra was probably still asleep. There was no point in disturbing her, I just left. I drove to a cafe and grabbed a cup of coffee before heading for college. Things were going on as usual on campus as I drove in. I had texted Jake, my closest friend before arriving. He was waiting for me at the usually spot when I arrived. I honked at him before rolling down, “Hop in you donkey!” He saw me and quickly jumped in. We drove off and headed for our dorm. “What the hell happened yesterday, fool. I was trying to call but it never went through.” Jake stated. “ Yesterday...maybe I switched the airplane mode.” I muttered. Jake squinted his eyes. For some reason, he could already tell something was wrong. “ What happened, you already moved to your new apartment. Did the owner give you problems?” I smirked. Jake gasped, “He did? Why don't we drop by his place on our way back and I'll give him a piece of my mind.” He blurted. “ It's a woman, Jake. And my landlady didn't give me any problems, perhaps...” “Oh, yes. You did say it's a woman.” I sighed deeply. Looking back on everything, it still felt like a dream. And the marriage, we had already agreed to it despite just knowing each other. “So, did she give you any problems. Tell me everything already!” “Well, are you sure you're ready to hear everything? Some pretty messed up things happened yesterday.” Jake scoffed, “You underestimate me! I am in for anything crazy.” “She is just not any random person. Actually, she is my brother's ex wife. And she has their child, without his knowledge of course. He found out and now wants custody of the child. Lyra doesn't want this, so she agreed to my proposal to marry her, just to drive my step mother and brother away.” I narrated. Jake froze. He stared at me deeply, unsure of what he just heard. “Wait, did you start drinking without my knowledge?” I shook my head vigorously, “Of course not i***t! See? I told you some pretty messed up things happened. It's all too much!” I said with frustration. His jaw dropped open. “You are actually serious about this! How did you all these even happen in such a short time. You met your brother's ex wife and proposed to marry her, who does that!” “ You're not understanding me, Jake. I did it to save her from my step brother. They wanted the child, but Lyra doesn't want that. She raised the child on her own and they suddenly want to take her.” “ I'm guessing this Lyra is the mother? Why can she not just agree to them and request to see the child on the condition they give her a s**t ton of money! Your family is very rich.” Jake suggested. I shook my head, It was no surprise he suggested something like that. His way of thinking might slightly drift from a normal person's. “That is not an option, you understand she raised and loves her child?” I asked. Jake shrugged her shoulders, “My mother loves me but I doubt she'll refuse to hand me over to a strange father for a s**t ton of money.” “I doubt your mother loves you, Jake.” He punched my shoulder slightly, “Shuy it, idiot.” I chuckled and slowed down, parking in a space. We both remained in the car, “What will you do now? I am still struggling to understand why you suddenly proposed to marry her.” Jake asked. “I don't know what came over me,Jake. I just did it, eve I was shocked after it slipped out of my mouth.” I replied. Jake sighed, he was equally frustrated as me. He always treated me like a brother, he was the only friend I really had as well. We always shared our problems with each and sometimes, their solutions. But this problem seemed way over our heads, Jake was still struggling to believe I really proposed to marry someone I barely knew. “How does she feel about this? She just agreed to marrying a college student out of nowhere?” I shrugged my shoulders, “Perhaps she was also in a tight situation and had to choice but to accept it. I was spooked by her decision too.” “Maybe you two are just psychopaths. Why would a stranger propose to a woman and why would she even accept!” Jake exclaimed. I pushed the door open and stepped out, “I don't know! Stop asking these questions and help me think of a way out of this mess.” Jake stepped out of the vehicle and shut the door as well, “Wait, you don't want this to go on?” “Of course...I don't. I don't know!” “Why, is she hot? ” He asked and winked. I brushed him off, “I mean, she looks alright. But that is not even important right now! Her looks doesn't change that she is my brother's ex wife. Why should I be involved in things like this.” Jake laughed, attracting the people around us. Most stared at me, I quickly pulled him and headed inside. This was not a day to be attracting attention. As soon as I stepped in, my eyes met with someone's. It was a college student like me, a young lady who I don't recall knowing. Her facial expression changed and she approached me immediately. I squinted my eyes and watched as she reached me. That was when I noticed she was holding a cup of coffee. Jake noticed I was staring at something and turned her attention to it as well. She reached me and splashed the coffee on my body. Everyone in the hallway gasped, they murmured amongst themselves. “What in the world..”
