Journey to the RA
CHAPTER 1
My name is Kim Cherry.
My dad is the third richest man in SHUNGAI and my mom; she is the owner of the biggest supermarket in the world. My dad is a SHUNGAIN and my mom is ALREGIA.
They resided in SHUNGAI after their marriage and my dad decided to establish his business in SHUNGAI and it succeeded. I came into the family two years after their marriage.
Growing up, at age five I visited SEGALA. It is one holiday I cherish so much. My mum is from the okrika tribe of SEGAL. I experienced an entirely different culture and I fell in love with their food. I stayed for only a month, during that period I was taught the popular okrika rhymes and bed time story. Being bi-racial has given me an experience of both worlds.
I have always being a smart kid who loves education but not school. My dad will always say jokingly, I got it all from him.
I turned sixteen few days ago, just then the news came in ... Our exams just started, I will be done with high school and lots of preparation had started for our graduation. All that will have to be cancelled as tension rose among students. We had to cancel all school activities as our focus turned towards preparing for the RA exams.
It took two weeks for the result to come out, and when the letter was sent to my house, I passed. In the letter I was instructed to go to the RA on August 10. We just entered day two of august, packing started and my mom made sure everything was in place. She turned her head to face me while she was checking my box “Let me see, Cherry don’t forget your phone and wristwatch”
“I know mom”, she pulls my cheek “but don’t forget God is the most important being and most intelligent problem solver.
“Cherry, do you really have to go; you know you can decline this offer”
“I really want to go, if not for anyone then for you and dad”
She started crying “Why are you such a stubborn girl, you know your father and I don’t want anything to happen to you.”
“Mom, why are you trying to emotionally blackmail me, I have already decided, nothing you and dad will say will change my mind.”
“Cutie…….”
“Baby girl……”
“Sweetie…….”
“Honey boo……”
There’s only one person that calls us funny names, my dad.
I giggled “Mom, come on, dad’s calling us.” she wipes her tears.
“Your father is really funny.”
We went downstairs to meet him.
“Hello Mr. Kim” My Mom said with a smile as she hugged and had to stand on her toes to kiss him.
I went to hug him too “Hello Dad.”
“Hello baby girl.” he said with a genuine grin.
“So, dad where are you off to?” Half hoping it’s somewhere interesting because I needed a break from all this packing.
Still hugging he said “Well, I’m off to work.”
I looked at him “Which of your work, the restaurant, the enterprise, the factory, which other one, the...”
“Calm down honey boo, I’m just going to the enterprise, I need to discuss something with my employees”.
“Oh” I said with a disappointed look on my face.
“What’s wrong?” He asked with a look of concern.
“Nothing” I smiled “It’s just that I needed a break from all this packing and I was hoping that you will be going somewhere interesting you know.” I started adjusting his tie hoping he’ll give in to my request.
He held my shoulder and smiled “Baby girl I understand you, okay here’s the deal if you’re able to finish everything, let’s say before August 7, then I’ll take you to anywhere you want to go. You’ll enjoy your last days in SHUNGAI before you go to ALREGIA.
I looked at him “You promise dad?” I gave him a serious look.
“Yes Mi-cha (the SHUNGAIN name my dad gave me) I promise, then he raised an eyebrow up, I then knew that he was serious. Anytime he raises an eyebrow, it shows that he’s serious, it’s really funny though but I like it.
“Okay dad, now go, if not, you’ll be late.”
“Oh, you’re right.” he quickly checks his watch. “I'll get going now.” Then he walks to my mom, pecks her on her right cheek, “Take care Sunmi (my mom’s SHUNGAIN name)”, she smiles. He walks over to me “Take care Mi-cha, and don’t over stress your mom, okay?”
“Okay dad.”
He turns and runs to his car after opening the door he shouts “See ya.” and off he goes. My dad lived in America for twenty seven years and so he has the easiness in him. He badly speaks SHUNGAIN language.
My mum stood looking outside vaguely. "Mom, are you okay?" She faced me and smiled. Stroking my hair, she said “Marrying your father and giving birth to you gives me joy everyday”
“Aww, thanks Mom.” I always thank God for one thing and that is bringing me into the right family.
“So, come on Cherry let’s finish so that your dad can spoil us.” she giggles.
