Chapter 22

Nationals

Now we are in Chicago. Ready to face our nationals and beat that Vocal Adrenaline. I'm in the girls room and concern with Mercedes because she is sick right now.

"What's going on? How bad is it?" Mr. Schue walks in.

"Her temperature's 101 degrees. Given the fact that Weezy's complaining about an upset stomach, it's either Amazonian dengue fever or the H1N1 super virus." Coach Sylvester answer.

"Or I have food poisoning." Mercedes says.

"We all wanted burritos for lunch, so we went to Chipotle, but Mercedes tried some dive called Seatora Salsation." Santana explains.

"Will, word, please." Coach Sylvester says to Mr. Schue then walks a little bit further than us with Mr. Schue.

"Maybe you wanna try my mint candy? Sometimes it helps to clear your vomit feel like you have a pregnancy mood." I said to Mercedes and take a candy from my bag.

"No, I'm fine." Mercedes shake her head.

"Shall I call the room service so you still can eat?" Sugar asks Mercedes.

"We just need think to clear this fever and make her stomachache gone." Santana says to us.

"Nationals is tomorrow and how could that happened?" Mercedes asks hopelessly.

"So here's what's gonna happen Mercedes, you're on bed rest, Quinn, you're stepping in." Mr. Schue says to us.

"No, no, no, I can't dance that number. I can't sing it, either, not like.." Quinn shakes her head.

"The Troubletones need you." Mr. Schue says to Quinn.

"And you're better than you think you are." Tina says to Quinn.

"Tina, you, too. You're in the Troubletones." Mr. Schue says to Tina.

"Mr. Schue, this is my last competition. I don't want to miss it." Mercedes says to Mr. Schue.

"Amen, to that, sister. That's why I'm putting you on a vitamin B-12 drip. We're flushing your system with Pedialyte, and I'm gonna fill that bathtub with ice and see if we can't get your ambient body temperature back down to normal. Worked in Jacob's Ladder." Coach Sylvester says to us and take an alumunium basket and walks off.

"All right, we all have our marching orders.

Let's do it. Girls, you go to the rehearsal place and I'll stay here until Sue back. Mercedes, you need to take a rest." Mr. Schue says to us.

I let out a sigh and walk out from that room with the others. I already wear my short leggings, and my big tshirt and let my hair in a ponitail with a headband to clear my sweat.

We then enter the rehearsal place. A meeting room that change into a rehearsal place. The boys are already here and having their choreography with a lead from Mike.

But not all the boys are practicing. Meanwhile Puck is busy with studying his geography while rehearsing. I start dance with my the dance number on Dashboard and lead the girls.

"Watch your step, dude and focus!" Sam yells to Puck and pushes his shoulder away.

"I'm trying and dont pushes me like that!" Puck yells and pushes Sam's shoulder.

"Hey break it off!" Mike trying to stops them.

But they cant stop and start to fight each other. I cant do anything. Until coach Beiste walks in then went out again. They still fighting and beating each other.

"Hey, calm down! Hey, hey, calm down! Calm down!" Mr. Schue stops them.

"Fight, fight, fight!" The others yells.

"Hey, cool out!" Finn stops them.

"He's studying for geography while we're trying to rehearse!" Sam protest.

"It's bogus! 'Cause I already know the dance! You dance like you got your feet caught in bear traps." Puck yells at Sam.

Sam look angry and about to punch Puck but I stop him and hold his body.

"You're trying to gnaw them off. Mr.

Schue, are you aware that while we're arguing about jazz squares, Unique is being handed the key to the city by Rahm Emanuel?" Kurt says to us.

"Really? And plus my pillow and my blanket fell into the pool. Disaster." Brittany says as she looked at the window.

"Look, I think everybody is just a little tired.

We've been rehearsing for three straight hours." Artie says to us.

"Yeah, and we'll rehearse all night if we have to. We can rest after we've won!" Finn says to us.

"Just because we've lost Mercedes doesn't mean we can be anything less than perfect." Rachel says to us.

"Perfect! That's easy for you to say." Artie protest.

The others start arguing each other. Sam start argue with Rory so I stop him to make him calm down and stop this fight.

"Okay, you know what? You know what?" Santana yells at us and stops us. "Hey! I don't want to hear any of this, 'We can't do it without her,' because guess what? We don't have a choice. So be warned if you are not giving this everything you've got, I will go all Lima Heights on your sorry asses." Santana says angrily to us.

"Listen to yourselves." Mr. Schue says to Santana.

"I know. I'm sorry. I always go to the yelling place. I have rage." Santana says a little bit calm.

"No, it's a good thing. A great thing.

There is so much passion in this room even all your arguing, it's about the work. You guys really want this. Okay, so let's take a half-hour break, and then we'll run it from the top." Mr. Schue says to us.

"Mr. Schue, is it okay if we keep going? We got the first slot, which is, like, the death slot. We have to be amazing." Tina says to us.

"Yeah, "Edge of Glory's" a b***h. I said I'd be dancing by nationals. I'll be damned if I don't." Quinn says.

"Okay, then let's keep going. Mike, help the guys out with the choreography. Artie, help Puck with his geography. Ladies, 'Edge of Glory' Come on. Brittany, run us through it." Mr. Schue says to us.

"From the chorus?" Brittany asks.

"Yeah, from the chorus." Mr. Schue answer.

"You okay?" I ask Sam and clear his sweat with my face towel.

"Yeah. It's just tired things and too much passion." Sam sighs.

"Yeah everyone in this room are too much under pressure." I said to Sam.

"Come on, dude." Mike says to Sam.

"Can you give him a five minutes break? He is tired." I said to Mike.

"Sure." Mike nodded and start lead the dance number with the boys.

I take a mineral water from the box and give it to Sam as he lay his body on the long square table and groan.

"Here, you will get dehydrated if you dont drink." I said to Sam.

Sam just close his eyes. I hold his hand to wake him up but I feel like his body burning up. I place my hand on his forehead and he really burning up.

"Mr. Schue, Sam got fever!" I said to Mr. Schue.

Mr. Schue walks to the place where Sam lay his body and touch his forehead with his hand. "What happened?" Mr. Schue asks me.

"Last night, he skipped the dinner to have rehearsal until the morning comes and I bet he didnt sleep last night." I said to Mr. Schue.

"Finn, help Emily to bring Sam to his room. I'll tell Sue to call the hotel clinic to give him medicine." Mr. Schue says to us.

Finn helps me to bring Sam to his room. He place Sam's hand on his shoulder and carry him out from this rehearsal place.

"Give him a towel with warm water to clear his fever and a painkillers." Ms. Pillsburry says to me.

"I bring some medicine in my bag." I said to them and make a little run to back to my room.

I enter my room and coach Sylvester is there with Mercedes. I take my bag and looking for the medicine mom always told me to bring everytime I wanna go out for more than a day.

After that I make a little run and our from my room then enter the boys room as Finn is laying Sam's body on the bed.

"You okay if I leave you alone here?" Finn asks me.

"Yeah, I already remember about the choreography." I nodded.

"Call me if you need something." Finn says to me then walks off.

I take an alumnium basket and fill it with warm water. I take a face towel and put it into that alumunium basket then place it on Sam's forehead.

"My head's hurt." Sam says as he hold his head.

"You want to eat something? I'll call the room service okay." I said to Sam.

"I'm still have a sandwich in my bag." Sam says to me.

I walk to his bag and take a lunch box from his bag and there are two pieces of sandwich left. I smell it and it's still be able to eat.

I sit down on the edge of the bed and help him to sit up with his back against the wall. I takr off thr towel on his forehead and then replace it fever plaster then feed him that Sandwich slowly.

"What's on that my forehead?" Sam asks me.

"Baby's fever plaster." I simply said.

"Babe, I'm not a baby." Sam rolls his eyes.

"I dont care with that. I want to dance with you tomorrow and you have to get recovery so I will go to Lima Heights and yell at you with Spanish words that you cant understand." I said to Sam.

"How's Sam?" Mr. Schue walks in with coach Beiste and the others boys.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Schue. I skipped dinner last night and I spent the night with the rehearsing the dance moves because I cant remember that well. I just need some sleep and eat." Sam answer.

"We will continue the rehearsal tonight one hour before the dinner begin. I'm gonna check Mercedes." Mr. Schue says to us then walks off with coach Beiste.

"What's on your forehead, dude?" Blaine chuckles.

"It must be Emily's baby's fever plaster." Kurt answer.

"I'm still have three more like that. You want?" I ask Blaine.

"No, thank you." Blaine simply said.

"Can you get out for a while because we want to change and it's little bit uncomfortable if you are here." Joe says to me.

"I've seen Finn naked everyday." I roll my eyes.

"Because he is your brother but I'm not Finn." Joe says.

"I'm not interest with your abs, tarantula head. Besides that there is a bathroom so I guess you can use that. What is the function of bathroom then?" I roll my eyes.

"Dont start an argue with Emily or you will be speechless." Kurt says.

"She wont look at you, dude." Sam cup my cheeks and makes me facing him.

"Feeling better?" I ask Sam.

"As long as you're here I'll be fine." Sam smiles at me.

I smile back at him and feeding him that sandwich until it's nothing left. I just hope that tomorrow everything will be fine. Sam and Mercedes will get recovery and we will win this nationals.

Today is nationals day. I'm sitting down in fromt of the vanity mirror and put a lipbalm on my lips to make me look a bit fresh.

The others are doing the same thing. I already get dressed and let my hair in folded.

"Can you help me with this?" Sam asks me and show me his tie.

I turn my body and fixing his tie. He is like Finn. Cant wearing the tie very well. "You dont get headache or freezing right?" I ask Sam.

"Nope, I'm totally health now. Thanks, because you alwaya standby next to me and take care of me." Sam smiles at me.

"It's okay." I smile back at him.

"What taste of the lipbalm you use?" Sam ask me.

"Chocolate. Just found out a new taste one. Why?" I ask Sam.

"Can I taste it?" Sam raises his eyebrows.

"Sure..here." I gave the lipbalm to Sam.

Sam take it then smirks at me but he didnt wear it on his lips. I raise my eyebrows and he cup my cheeks and pushes his face closer to me and kisses me softly. I cup his cheek back and kiss him back.

"I like that. It tasted awesome." Sam smirks at me.

"Ugh you lick my whole lips." I roll my eyes and take my lipbalm from his hand.

I turn my face back to the mirror and put that lipbalm on my lips. Sam kisses my cheek and smirks at me through the mirror.

"You're beautiful." Sam smirks at me.

I just give him a smile then put all my make up stuff into my make up pouch.

"All right, gather around, everyone!" Mr

Schue walks in.

We cheering together and laughing then walk to the middle and make a circle together. I'm standing next to Sam as he put his hand around my shoulder.

"I just want to say a few words before we go out there." Mr. Schue says to us.

"Hold on, Mr. Schue. Hold on. You've given us a lot of pep talks over the years, but remember, you told us once that, you know, a teacher's job is done when his students don't need him anymore?" Finn says to Mr. Schue.

"Okay. Finn, the floor is yours." Mr. Schue says to us.

"Last night we all sat around in a circle after you went to bed and we told stories.

But then we went around the room, and everybody said what they wanted to win this thing for, and we all said the same thing, we want to win this for you." Finn says to us.

"Yeah." Sugar nodded.

"And I know every year at school Figgins gives away the Teacher of the Year award.

But I don't think any of us have to wait to see how we feel about that. You're, like, our Teacher of a Lifetime." Finn says to us.

"Whoo! Yeah, definitely." We nodded as agree.

"Thank you, Finn, all of you. I love you guys so much." Mr. Schue smiles at us.

"New Directions, line up!" A voice from the speaker.

"All right, that's it. Show time. Hands in, everyone." Mr. Schue says to us.

"Now I know you weren't planning on doing the show circle without me." Mercedes giggles and walks in.

"You're alive!" Tina says happily.

"Yeah, thanks to Sue. She's a miracle worker." Mercedes grins at us.

"Oh, well, it's amazing what a little TLC, some cortisone and a witch doctor will do." Coach Sylvester says proudly.

"Thank God you're okay because that just means I'm not gonna fall on my face during that Troubletones number." Quinn giggles.

"Oh, screw that. This is our last time performing together. You're doing it, and so you are you, Tina." Mercedes says to Quinn and Tina. "I'm not taking no for an answer.

Plus I have so many steroids going through my body right now, I may turn into the Incredible Hulk if you piss me off." Mercedes chuckles.

The bell is ringing and we really need to get the hell way from this dressing room to the backstage.

"Okay, if we don't get out of this room soon, none of us will be performing." Finn chuckles and start the hand in.

"Let's go!" Mr. Schue grins at us.

We then went out from that dressing room and then go to the backstage because we will perform first this time.

"Cant be more nervous than this." I said to Sam.

"You gonna kill that. If your feet still hurt, tell me. I'll try my best to cover that when we have dance together." Sam strokes my hair.

"No, it's fine." I'm smiling at Sam.

The Troubletones end up their performance. Next one is Rachel's solo and I'm part of the backup. I turn my face and she look nervous.

"You're gonna do this. This is your chance!" Finn says to Rachel.

"You're more talented than anyone of us here and you gonna kill that. I believe that madame Tibideaux will come and watch your performance." I half-smile at Rachel and turn my face at Finn.

Finn smiles at me and kisses my head. I just smile back at him then walk off to the stage until the music begin and Rachel has her solo.

We ended up our performance will full of applauding from the audience and cheering from them. Even Carmen Tibideaux give us standing applause and a whistle.

The curtains lifts down and then we are cheering happily because our performance ended up very well and I'll make sure that New Directions will win this.

We leave the stage then walk to the audience seat to see Vocal Adrenaline performance. I leave my seat and about to go to toilet.

"Where are you going to?" Sam asks me.

"Toilet. Be right back." I said to Sam.

I left my seat and went out from this auditorium to find a toilet because too much drinking makes me wanna really take a pee.

I enter the girls toilet then I enter the empty closet. After that I wash my hand on the wastavel and looking at myself in the mirror.

"Emily, I-I know you hate me or you might be still dont like me. But graduation is in front of us now and after that I'm going to married with Finn and you'll be my sister-in law. I really appreciate if you want to be bridesmaid in honor for our wedding and I...I just wanna be friends with you." Rachel suddenly walks in.

"You love to stalk someone and follow her to the restroom?" I raise my eyebrows.

"I know I've been being so annoying to you this time but I just wanna to built a friendship with you. I mean, after Finn and I married, you're not just a friend for me but also my family. I'm really sorry for everything I've done but you were right. I'm too selfish and I cant stop thinking about myself. Finn and I already planned that we will rent an apartment in Manhattan so you and Kurt can stay with us and we will live in New York together." Rachel says to me.

I half-smiled at her and let out a sigh. "You were amazing on that stage." I smile at her.

"Well, thanks. I did that because I got amazing backup singer." Rachel giggles.

"I was the one who being so b***h lately. You were right. Finn and you will getting married and you will be my sister-in law so then I just wanna apologize and fix this. I'm sorry." I said to her.

"So we're kind of friends now?" Rachel grins at me.

"Kind of." I giggle.

"Great because I wanna hug you now because I love hugging people." Rachel giggles and hugs me.

I just giggle and hug her back. Yeah it will be a great start to forgive someone and built a friendship before the graduation begin.

Now we are standing on the stage and holding our hands each other because we are ready to get our nationals trophy.

"And now it's time to announce the winner of this year's individual show choir MVP award....."

I turn my face at Rachel and she close her eyes and holding Finn's hand really tight. I know that she really need to win this.

"From Vocal Arednaline, Carmel High's Wade 'Unique' Adams!" The judges says and give the MVP trophy to Unique.

"And now a round of applause to your top three finalists for this year's National Show Choir Championship. In third place all the way from Oregon the Portland Scale Blazers!" The judges give the trophy to The Portland Scale Blazers.

I hold Sam's and Sugar's hand really tight. I close my eyes and really hope that when I open my eyes and see that the biggest trophy is ours.

"And now, ladies and gentlemen, quiet, please. Congratulations to both teams standing with us onstage. But not it's time to announce a winner. The 2012 National Show Choir Champions from.......McKinley High in Limo, Ohio, The New Directions!!!"

I open my eyes and we are cheering together. Yes, finally we did this! Mr. Schue takes the trophy and throw it in the air with us together.

Sam suddenly hugs me really tight and kisses my head. I cant stop smiling and cheering with the others. Finn takes my body and hugs me and swing me around. This is the most beautiful moment in my life. The most beautiful moment in our life. Nationals champions, baby!
