Kit's POV
"Don't you know that it's rude to stare? " irked, bothered, I finally voiced out.
Instead of answering me, he showed me his toothpaste commercial smile. He propped his elbow on the table and leaned his cheek on his palm. He settled himself more comfortably just to irritate me. And my heart wasn't helping for it beats wildly and uncontrollably. I hate him and at the same time.. Argh. I can't stand this anymore. I stood up to leave before my actions betray me but when I was about to, he grasped my wrist.
Shit.
I don't know why my body reacted to his touch like it was wonted.
"Are you drunk or blushing? " he asked. My hand flew straight to my face as if it will alleviate anything.
I am angry, not blushing.
I tried to convince myself but I knew I was failing. I looked at him, he was enjoying this and I won't give him the satisfaction. I took my hand out of his grasp with force and met his gaze. I wanted to prove him something I didn't know what.
"Okay, okay. I'll stop." he raised both his hands as a sign that he' was backing down. I sat back, still doubtful. Luckily, my friends were too engaged in their conversation to notice the animosity between us.
He came closer and whispered. "Why do I feel like, you hate me?"
"I don't."
"Have we met before? "
Yeah. You were flirting and used a very lame pick up line. I thought. "No. "
"Then, why do you sound so angry? "
"I. Am. Not, " I said slowly between my teeth.
By the way he twitched his mouth, he found this situation entertaining. And I found it far cry from it, if anything it was irksome. To my annoyance, he laughed loudly that he got my friends' attention. "Your friend Kit here is really very funny." he told them as an excuse.
"He is? " confused, brows furrowed, Beam inquired.
Ming nodded. It took me a lot of effort not to wring his neck.
"He must be drunk, he's normally grumpy. " he commented.
Pha concurred by twitching his lips. They both laughed softly.
"I need to head back now. I have an early class tomorrow" Yo interrupted.
Pha then stood up "Okay, let's go. "
"Wait." Beam and I shrieked simultaneously.
"How are we going home? " Beam beat me to it. We both hitched at Pha's car so we were both worried at how do we get home.
"I'll take you home. " Forth volunteered in a flash, before Pha could open his mouth.
Beam did not protest, so much for hating the man.
I sighed in relief, no matter how much I abhorred the idea to be the third wheel, I was left with no options. "Great, I'll go with you. "
"I'm sorry, you cant. I used my motorbike. " said Forth apologetically.
Shit. I cursed.
Of all day, why today?
"What happened to never leaving each other behind? " I rolled my eyes. Glaring at both Pha and Beam, they just shrugged me off.
"I guess, a taxi will do. "
"Well, I can take you home." Ming offered.
I turned my head towards him with a furrowed brow and doubtful eyes.
"Only if you want. " he grinned widely.
I rolled my eyes.
"Why wouldn't you want that? " Pha, genuinely confused.
Ming shrugged, leaving me to answer the latter.
"I just don't want to trouble him, that's all. " I reasoned out.
"Don't worry, no trouble at all. "
I really hate his gut. "O-okay, if you say so. "
Since I ran out of excuses and to ward them off from further inquiries, I had to agree. We all headed out and separated in the parking lot.
"Know what, I can just take a taxi. " I told him. We were strutting our way to where his car was parked.
He stopped on his tracks, grinning and eyes full of mischievousness. "Are you afraid of me?"
"No, "
I kept my response short for I can't trust myself to answer in a long sentence without stuttering.
Yeah, this jerk affects me that much.
"Then, get on my car. " he pointed the white SUV nearby.
I resumed on walking towards his car. There's no point in arguing so might as well get this over with.
The car seemed oddly familiar.
He was driving for a while, I kept my mouth shut - not bothering to initiate for a small talk - when his phone rang. It broke the awkward silence between us. It was on his pocket, so he squirmed for his jeans was tight and he had hard time fishing it out. Unsuccessful and despondent, he sighed. I looked at him, his eyes pleading. As much as I hated to be closer to him, I didn't have a choice. The man volunteered to take me home so maybe I could do him a simple favor in return.
He lifted his ass up, making it easier for me as I fished his phone out. Once, I got a hold of it, I pulled my hand with it in no time and handed it.
"Yes, Nam darling?"
He cheerfully chirped.
"Going home, why? "
"Sorry, sweety. I went ahead. I'm kinda sleepy. "
He sounded rueful but his face said otherwise.
"Ok. Ok. See you tomorrow. " he pressed the end button.
He caught me looking at him. I saw him smiled playfully before I turned away.
Then his phone rang again. "Prae, honey. " he answered.
"Yes, I did. "
"I'll make it up to you na, "
"Ok, ok. " he ended the call.
Then another call.
"Hi, Ploy! "
With the sweetest and softest tone, that cringe me.
"If I knew, you were coming. I would have stayed. You know I wouldn't miss the chance to see you. " mischievously delivered, it irked me.
"I can't, I'll just see you in school. "
Silence.
"Okay! Bye darling. " he said charmingly.
What a skirt-chaser. Man-w***e.
Then it rang again. He turned it off. I glanced at him raising my brows.
"You might want to sleep so I turned it off, " he expounded, without waiting for me to ask why.
"No, don't worry. Go ahead and flirt. Please, pretend I don't exist. "
"It's okay, " he snickered.
"I don't want you to be in trouble with any of your girlfriends. "
"Girlfriends?" he laughed out loud. "I don't do girlfriends, Kitty. "
"Don't call me that. " I snapped.
"If I didn't know you're a man, I would think you're jealous. " he teased.
"And I'm glad I am, I don't wanna end up as one of your victims. "
He paused for a moment then gave a short laughed afterwards. He really looked familiar. I feel like I've met him before tonight.
Tall.
Good looking.
White SUV.
Then it dawned on me. I'm trying my very best not to strangle him.
"You need to apologize. " I demanded.
"For? " confused, he asked.
"The parking lot, remember? "
He recalled it too as his eyes grew bigger. "It was you. " he was able to wrap his mind around it.
"I'm really sorry, " he stated seriously. "but I was in a hurry and you're blocking the way so I took it. "
"Are you justifying what you did? " I asked.
He gave his toothpaste smile again.
"It was an apology, " he quickly answered.
"You have a weird way of apologizing," I retorted.
"Believe me, I can show you more of my ways. " he winked.
"I'm sure, you can. "
He parked in front of my dormitory. "Thank you, " I opened the car door hastily. Before I could get out, he stopped me.
"Wait! " I halted. "What about a goodbye kiss? "
I rolled my eyes, got off and I slammed the door behind.
