30 “It’s not you, it’s me.” Guy cracked a smile as he watched the quiver in Agave’s lips. It was the first time he’d ever known those words to ring true. Agave stood before Caroline. She reached out a shaking hand towards the woman. Caroline folded her arms around herself and looked down at the floor. She held her posture stiff. She took a deep breath and held it. Agave placed her empty hand over her heart. Her eyes stayed fixed on Caroline. “You brought light into my world, and I hid you in the shadows. You fed my soul, and I left you starved for attention. You gave me your trust, and I returned it with lies.” Guy watched as Caroline took in a shivering breath. She peeked up at Agave from beneath heavy lashes.
