With Vlak's body paralysis ability, she was forced to stop moving. In reality, Vlak's ability is not that great. It can only paralyse only one to two parts of the body. Right now, Vlak paralysed her feet.
She did know how to climb but she doesn't have an ounce of idea how to get down from the roof. She did planned to jump, but she never really took Vlak seriously. In her eyes, he's just an annoying senior knight in the town who kept bugging her to enrol in the academy.
Just when she's thinking of an idea, Vlak's voice rang out.
“Knights, carry her.”
Connie felt her body stiffen.
No one knew. The people she had scammed were all men. She hated being touched, even with just a graze. But much more when it is a man. She didn't know where it started. She just grew up seeing the world rotating around men. She never had friends, the last family she had died because of a man. She has been a wanderer ever since.
Seeing them struggling to climb the roof, she made a deal.
“Fine. I'll come with you. Set my feet free first.”
Vlak glared at her. 'How demanding.'
The knights who were once puzzled breathed in relief. The innocent looking girl is definitely dangerous. Of all the frauds she did, it is only counted in a hand when did she got arrested. A kid with potential like her should be enrolled in the academy or be one of the kingdom's intel department. She could be a great spy to another kingdom. When she grew up, it would be a big feat to her and many families of nobles would want her hand!
'It's a waste of ability if she can't enter any of it.'
And neither of them knew how Connie hated men.
The knights alerted themselves when Vlak removed the paralysis and Connie jumped from the roof. She landed swiftly with a cold look.
With those arrests, the knights already got used of how she hated being touched, and so, they didn't handcuffed her in fear of her possible escape.
Vlak swallowed the lump in his throat when he was stared by her so icily. He just realized how she got taller but not as tall as him, and she also got fairer. Her face has gotten more detailed, it was not obvious not until she comes closer.
'She's growing.'
The more he thinks of it, the more he feels wasted to be unable to convince her to enrol at the academy. She is rare. But at the same time, she is very distant.
Though Elite Academy is only affordable for nobles and royals, it also welcomes talented commoners. She can get scholarship with her ability. In fact, she must have never thought of this, but many would definitely sponsor her. Especially the Countess she worked under fo in the past.
The nobles has already heard about her. All those nobles knew is that she's a scammer but didn't know that she used her ability. She might be targeted. That's why, if she wanted to stay safe, she should...
“Do you just want to stand there? If yes, I'll go now.”
Vlak woke up from his deep thoughts seeing Connie's back turning away from him with eights steps away. “Don't! Wait!”
Connie, clearly annoyed, glared at him. In no time, Vlak caught up with her.
“Senior Knight Nelsen.”
The two stopped, but Connie didn't know who the guy is so she turned away again, resulting Vlak to hold her cape's hood, stopping her from walking away. Connie's face turned grim.
The other guy cleared his throat but was still unnoticed.
She slapped his hand away from her hood, even acted wiping her hood as if she's dusting dirts away. His jaw dropped.
‘This kid...’ he gritted his teeth internally.
The guy cleared his throat again, which made Vlak's smiles stiff.
“Sir Klaus, my apologies. Is there a thing that matters, Sir?”
Sir Klaus Darwin is a respected professor in the Elite Academy. Vlak noticed the other guys Sir Klaus brought with him which made him feel more embarrassed.
“Ah, no. I saw you from afar and saw the commotion. I don't want to intervene but may I ask who is she, if you don't mind, Senior Nelsen.”
Though he is smiling, Vlak could feel the coldness of his words.
Vlak was about to open his mouth to talk but one of the guys Sir Klaus brought talked first.
“Sir, she's gone.” the guy smilingly informed them. He has gray hair and has playful aura.
There are overall four guys who came with the professor. Just looking at them, one could tell that they are nobles, or even one or two of them are royals.
The four of them never really cared and never saw her face. It was only Sir Klaus that paid attention to her. After all, she was the reason why he came here for.
***************†******************
“I wonder what's the commotion there...” Cloud, the guy with gray hair, son of Countess Ravine, said.
Klaus looked at the commotion thoroughly and smiled. ‘There she is.’
Dave, who noticed the professor's unusual smile, asked, “Is she the one you said you're finding? I thought you were finding more precious gems to study.”
Klaus' smile stiffened. “My Lord, in the first place, I never asked the four of you to come with me. Why did the four of you come with me anyway?” the two nosy guys silenced. The other two has been silent the whole time, which made Klaus feel awkward.
He knew that they were silent but it confused him why would the other two came too. It's not like they don't lack appointment, do they?
He sighed. This year's students are interesting. But it would be more interesting if that girl appears. They might didn't know it themselves but he could feel their burning curiosities. Especially from the two silent guys.
The crowd dispersed and revealed a girl who jumped from the roof to the ground. The girl's back faces them, only to view her sleek and long dark hair. She has nice height, and seeing her arms and hands, she's very fair. Her jump were slow, as if she's just walking. Her posture were attractive and her footing was clever and slick. But observing how she jumped back then, one could tell how lazy her personality is. She looks just like a cat jumping from one roof to another.
Seeing it was Vlak again, he called. If only he knew that the girl would seize the chance to escape, he would rather wait for another week.
“She's Cologne Adams, a con. Do you need something from her, Sir Klaus?” Vlak sighed, tired, even when it was just early in the morning.
“Senior Knight Nelsen, did you mention the academy to her?”
Vlak shook his head, dismayed, “I mentioned it twice back then, this time, I didn't have the chance to talk since she had escaped.”
Klaus tried to open his mouth but Vlak talked again, “As you see, that girl clearly hates crowd, Sir Klaus. I just can't convince her so easily. Maybe, because she doesn't have the motivation to do so, that's what I think.”
Klaus silenced. Connie is a mysterious kid. They don't know where she came from, for all they know, they just want her ability to be known and to be used. That kind of talent should be known to the world.
And she's just a kid, she still needs guidance.
Thinking for a moment, Klaus asked again, “Do you know where she lives?”
“Sir Klaus, I'm afraid we might can't find her anymore. She might come to live to another town.”
Klaus wanted to study Connie's ability. He wanted to see it right in front of his eyes.
What he didn't know is, the more he asked about Connie, the more the other four guys die out of curiosity.
‘Damn it, who the hell is that Cologne Adams?!’
