Nicole Weston is desperate to save her family’s business and clear their debts. When ruthless billionaire Cole Harrington offers her a deal-marry him for a year, and her financial troubles will disappear-she reluctantly agrees.

It’s a marriage of convenience, with no room for emotions. But when a one-night passion leads to an unexpected pregnancy, Nicole is thrown into turmoil.

Cole insists on making things right, but his cold, distant nature doesn't make it easier.

As their contract marriage begins to feel like something more, Nicole uncovers painful truths about Cole’s past, making her question everything she thought she knew about love, trust, and the man she’s now bound to.

Will their fake marriage evolve into something real, or will the walls between them remain too high to break down?

chapter 1
Nicole's POV My heart sank as I stared at the letter in my hands. The words blurred together, and for a moment, I could barely breathe. Deceased-that’s what it said at the top. Father is dead. I blinked several times, hoping the reality of it would shift, hoping the letter would change, that it would make sense. But the ink stayed the same. My father is dead. I hadn’t been ready for this. How could I have been? It hadn’t been a week since I last saw him, arguing about the future of his business-our business. Now, that future was a massive pile of debt, one that threatened to swallow everything we had built. I wasn’t prepared to lose him, and I wasn’t prepared to lose the family legacy, either. I grabbed my phone, scrolling through the contacts until I found the one person who might understand the weight of what I was going through-Tessa. My best friend, who was always there for me. She answered on the first ring. “Hello,” I mumbled. “Nicole? What’s wrong? You sound... off.” “Father’s gone, Tessa,” I whispered, trying to steady my voice. “He’s gone.” There was a long pause before she responded, her voice breaking as she asked, “What happened?” I shook my head, the grief rushing over me in waves. “A heart attack. I don’t even know how to process it.” “Oh, Nicole... I’m so sorry.” I could hear the sympathy in her voice, but it didn’t help. I needed more than just words. I needed answers, and the reality of what was left behind hit me harder than the grief itself. “The business... it’s a mess. I just... I just found out. The creditors, the loans, the bills. We’re bankrupt, Tessa. There’s no way out.” “What are you going to do?” I wiped away a tear and tried to take a deep breath. “I’m going to try to save it. I don’t know how, but I have to. I can’t let everything he worked for go under.” There was a brief silence, and then Tessa asked the question I’d been avoiding. “What about selling the business?” I winced. The thought of selling it was unbearable, but it was the only option that seemed to make sense. “I don’t want to, but I don’t see another way.” “You have to talk to the creditors, Nicole. Get them to give you some time.” I stared at the letter again, my mind racing. “I’m meeting them tomorrow.” “You’ll figure it out. You always do.” But as I hung up the phone, I couldn’t shake the feeling of helplessness that gnawed at me. There was no way out. Or was there? *** The next day, I sat in a suffocating conference room, surrounded by men in suits. My father’s creditors. They had no sympathy for my grief. They only cared about one thing: money. “You have two options, Miss Weston,” one of the men, Mr. Keller, said as he pushed a stack of papers across the table. “You sell the business, or you find another way to pay off the debt. We’ve given you time, but it’s running out.” I stared at the papers in front of me, the weight of the decision suffocating. “I can’t sell it. This company... this is all my father had. I won’t let it go.” “Then you’ll have to find someone who’s willing to help you,” Mr. Keller said dismissively, adjusting his glasses. “But no one is going to take this on without collateral.” I clenched my fists under the table, trying to keep my composure. “I don’t have anything left to offer.” “You’ll need to figure something out. The bank isn’t going to wait forever.” I opened my mouth to argue, but before I could say anything, the door to the room swung open, and a tall man entered. He was dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit, his dark hair slightly tousled, but his presence commanded the room. I hadn’t expected company, but this man was different. His piercing eyes scanned the room with cold detachment. I could feel the temperature drop just by his presence. “Gentlemen,” he said in a low, commanding voice, his eyes briefly landing on me. “I believe I can help.” The room went quiet. Who was this? And why did I feel like I was about to be swept into something I couldn’t control? Mr. Keller stood up quickly, offering a smile. “Ah, Mr. Blackwood, I wasn’t expecting you today.” Zane Blackwood. That’s what his name tag read. He was a name I’d heard whispered in the business world-a ruthless billionaire known for swooping in and taking over struggling companies. He didn’t look like the type of man to offer help without expecting something in return. I didn’t trust him, and I certainly didn’t want anything to do with him. But as I looked around at the creditors, I knew I was running out of options. “Miss Weston, correct?” Zane asked, his gaze locking onto mine. There was no warmth in his eyes, just calculation. He was looking at me as though I were a problem to solve. “Yes,” I said, my voice tight. “I can help you with your debt,” he said without preamble. “But there’s a condition.” My stomach tightened. I didn’t like the sound of this. “What kind of condition?” He leaned forward, his gaze never leaving mine. “Marry me.” I blinked, unable to comprehend what I was hearing. “What?” “Marry me,” Zane repeated, his voice colder than ice. “For a year. In exchange, I’ll clear your debts and save your business. Consider it a business arrangement, not a marriage.” I gaped at him, trying to process his words. This was absurd. I didn't even know him! But when I looked at the creditors, their faces betrayed no surprise. They had heard this before. They had accepted it. “You’re offering to marry me?” I whispered in disbelief. “For a year,” Zane confirmed. “In return, your company remains intact. No bankruptcy. No debts.” I couldn’t believe it. But the reality of my situation hit me hard-this was my only chance. No matter how impossible it seemed, I had no other options. My father’s legacy, my future, everything depended on this one decision. I swallowed hard and took the pen. I signed the contract. Immediately I lifted my eyes to meet Zane’s cold gaze, he said, “Just remember, Miss Weston. This isn’t a marriage. It’s a business arrangement.” I felt my heart race, knowing I had just entered into a deal that would change my life forever.
