One month later
I was losing my patience as I stared at Jasper who was scanning the newspaper. What was the point of inviting me downstairs for tea when he was going to ignore me the entire time. The sun was brighter than usual, and we were seated at the patio. It"s been one whole month and two weeks in this mansion.
My routine hadn"t changed. It was the same. Day after day. I would have breakfast with Jasper in the morning, head back to my room, then spend the day reading some books, lunch, stroll in the yard, dinner and bed. I even cooked for him several times. I was completely cut off from the outside world. I felt suffocated within the four walls of the luxurious mansion. I had done exactly as I was told and yet. I needed those benefits.
"Jasper." I called him.
"Yes, my love."
"It"s been a month." I reminded him.
"So?" He c****d an eyebrow.
My hands were balled into fists. "The rule book. It says I get silver benefits after I"ve successfully followed your rules for one month, and I think I"ve done everything I"ve been told."
There was a smirk on his face. "That"s true. You have been a good girl for the past month and I"m actually surprised." He retrieved a silver envelope from his breast pocket. "You deserve it, but..."
There"s always a catch. "But?"
My eyes were on the envelope. That envelope held my first key to freedom. I could stroll around the garden, watch movies, swim in the pool without having to ask Jasper. Just one more month of following those rules and I would be able to get out of the house with the Gold benefits.
Jasper"s blue eyes scanned the surroundings and met mine. He licked his lips and said. "I want you to kiss me."
My heart stopped beating. "What?!"
"You heard me, Kiara. I want you to kiss me, and if you are able to please me with the kiss, the envelope is yours."
"That was not mentioned in the rule book." I gritted my teeth and my voice went a notch up.
"I MAKE THE f*****g RULES!" Jasper pounded his fist on the table. "And you need to watch your damn mouth. I won"t tolerate back answers."
He continued. "One more word and you won"t get this envelope for another month. Do you seriously want that, Kiara?"
I closed my eyes and I realized the tears that were welling up. I needed to control them. I was stronger than this. Besides, a kiss wasn"t going to hurt. It would be like kissing one of those ex-boyfriends I had during high school.
I climbed to my feet and took a step towards his chair. He leaned back and studied me with his usual nonchalance. I closed my eyes and leaned in. Jasper caught hold of my wrist and forced me into his lap. I slowly placed my hand on his chest and leaned in again, this time I brushed my lips over his ever so slightly, testing if he was going to make any move.
I realized he was letting me take a lead, so I claimed his lips completely this time. Slowly, I kissed him deeper as I caught his lower lip in my mouth and licked it. I heard him groan and felt his arms wrap around my back. I let my hands travel towards his soft hair and ran my fingers through his locks. Finally, Jasper kissed me back with a wider passion. A minute later we were still kissing, I only aimed for the envelope and he seemed to kiss me like we had been in love for the past few years.
And I gasped when I felt the bulge in his pants. That bastard was turned on. Suddenly, I was overcome with a feeling of dread as I wondered what he would demand me to do to unlock the next gold benefit. I quickly compartmentalized the thought. I needed to focus on my present.
Jasper finally pulled back, he looked like he had been high on meth. He caressed my face with the back of his hand. "Oh, baby, I wish I could give you the gold benefit. You know how to kiss a man, and you do it well."
My cheeks turned crimson despite the fact that I wasn"t fishing for any compliments. I just needed the damn envelope. But, it was also true that Jasper wasn"t bad looking. In fact, he would be easily pegged as a fashion model if not for his craziness, so to hear him say that I was good at kissing, kind of made me happy.
"Thanks." I said. "You aren"t bad yourself."
He laughed, he seemed almost normal for a moment. "We should do it again."
I didn"t know what to say to that.
Without another word he retrieved the silver envelope and handed it to me. I was still seated in his lap. "It"s yours. I hope you will never disappoint me in future."
"I won"t, Jasper."
He kissed me lightly on the lips again. "If you are on your best behavior, who knows maybe you"ll be able to get the other benefits sooner. You just need to do as you are told. Follow the rules."
I saw a glimmer of hope.
He patted the back of my hand. "Open the envelope."
The envelope seemed to be of a good quality and smelled of roses. I opened it slowly and pulled out a silver card with the benefits written on it.

"Thanks Jasper." I said again.
"You might want to check the envelope again." He pointed out.
I emptied the contents of the envelope and a delicate silver bracelet fell into my open palm. It was a beautiful bracelet with studded blue stones and thin patterns of flowers. It was silver in color and looked like it cost a fortune.
"Do you like it?" Jasper asked me.
"I love it." It was the first honest thing I had confessed to him in weeks. "It"s so pretty. Thank you so much, Jasper."
"You"re welcome. I need you to wear it at all times." He said as he took the bracelet from my fingers and slipped it onto my wrist, clasping the lock into place.
"Remember, Kiara. If you follow my orders, you will be treated like a queen. Fight me and there will be consequences."
"Of course. I understand." I said.
*****
A week had passed since I"d received the benefits. As promised by Jasper, I was finally able to breathe some freedom in the form of a television and watching some movies. I"d watched three movies back to back in his private theater, all alone, laughing by myself. It was f*****g creepy if you ask me, but I had found something to occupy my time. There was even a popcorn and nacho machine outside which only served me.
It kind of felt like a cozy movie theater with only one customer. Probably a person"s worst nightmare, but I was happy with this little progress.
After watching three movies, I went downstairs for a swim in the pool. The water was cold, but I got used to it a few minutes later. Jasper had gone for a business trip for a few days and I knew he wouldn"t be back for a while, that meant I was under the watchful eye of Margret.
This was a chance. A chance to dig deeper so I did whatever curious person would do in my place. The Don"t part of the rules said the basement was off limits.
I smiled to myself. I quickly took a shower and got dressed hurriedly and navigated my way into the deepest part of the mansion. I knew Margret was supervising the few cooks who were preparing dinner and I knew she wouldn"t check on me until an hour, so I took a risk and took hurried steps.
I reached a polished mahogany door. I swept my eyes across the passageway finding no one. My hands shook as I turned the knob and it gave away easily. I took a step inside and stared at down at the staircase that seemed to disappear into a void of darkness. It was pitch black.
My fingers fumbled for a switch as I switched on a button and small LED lights turned on. It looked like a cellar. I took a step down, and then another, feeling confident with each step.
It was a few minutes later that I realized I"d made the biggest f*****g mistake of my life.
