For safety reasons they stood behind the perimeter fence well away from the makeshift runway, small children in front, the elderly sitting on benches carried from the dining room, the remainder standing in rows according to height. As the Sky-ship landed a great cry arose from the crowd, arms waved madly and children rattled the metal fence. Thrusters disengaged, the pilot’s door opened and Breta began to descend the ladder followed by Pia, Kaire and Tiki. Welcome calls faded and joyful song burst from the crowd, voices young and old melded in harmony.
