Chapter 3

886 Words
Ethan's POV Bell ringing.  Everyone stood up, including me. While I'm gathering my stuff from the desk to my bag, I heard someone chattering about me.  "I am surprised he still came to school after what happened." Sally said, whispering to Lily. Nevertheless I can hear them. I continued putting my stuff to my bag. Someone tapped my shoulder, pointing at the front door. There I saw Ginia waiting for me. She waved her hand and smiled. Before I grabbed my bag, I looked at Sally and her friends. They looked shocked, they turned their heads away with guilt in their eyes.  "Finally! Did you eat already?" Ginia said when I came out of the room.  "Yeah, I already did. What are you holding?" I asked. I saw some paper on the top of the books she's holding.  "Oh! This is Collin's schedule. He said he felt sick and went home early. That is probably a lie but whatever." She sneered. I laughed loudly, I guess I will hear some shouting later? Collin is Ginia's younger brother; he's in grade 8 now. And he doesn't like interacting with humans.  I took the things in her hand unconsciously. My hands move on their own, it has become my normal action when I am with her. We are now walking in the corner of the big field. It has less students today, usually students would watch the soccer's team practice, but today is the first day of school so there are no practices. Across the field we saw Nathan with Lucky and Alexus. Lucky and Alexus are sitting on one of the benches while Nathan is leaning at a tree near the two. Ginia hurriedly ran to Lucky, she sat beside her and they talked about their new classmates. Meanwhile Alexus is busy reading a book using one hand only and his free hand intertwined with Lucky's other hand, you can't see it if you don't look closer. I smirked, I was about to open my mouth to say something...  "Alexis already left, he said he has to finish some things." Alexus blurted out before I could even say something. This guy!  "Okay, fine!" I said and walked towards Nathan. When I got closer I saw him talking to someone. Nathan saw me.  "Ethan, this is Caleb, he's interested in the photography club." He said. The guy named Caleb held his hand out. "Oh cool! Would you join the club?" I shook his hand. I heard footsteps behind me. Ginia's footsteps. "Did I hear about the photography club? Are you going to join?" Ginia asked excitedly. I am the president of the photography club. Ginia and Nathan are part of it too.  We continued talking about the club, well most of the time it is Ginia talking proudly about the photography club.  Ginia and I are now in front of their gate.  Suddenly a fast motor passed in front of us, making me step back. I frozed, Ginia saw it but she didn’t say anything. We just stood there as silence enveloped us. "Go inside already." I said after a few seconds. I know that she is worried about me because of what happened.  She nodded and started walking toward their gate. "Don't stay up too late and don't forget to lock your window." I reminded her. She loves to gaze at the moon and stars through her telescope before going to sleep.  "Yeah, yeah sure. You sounded like mom, go to your house already!'' She shouted, coating her voice to hide her concerns, she doesn't like to be reminded of things. She glared at me and started unlocking their gate without taking her eyes off me. She looks angry and concerned, I know her too well. Ginia and I have been friends since we were little. My house is just across from her, and she is the type of person that gets along with literally anyone. I on the other hand is a shy boy that doesn't talk too much. She forced me to play with her and her friends, forced me to talk to her until I became comfortable with her. I know the things she likes and the things she hates. I know almost everything.  I thought she would go inside after she opened the gate but no... she stopped and looked down, thinking. Then she turned to me, eyes filled with tears. She walked-run towards me, I was stunned. "Gini-" She cut me off.  "If you're sad please tell me!...” she gulped, holding her tears.  “If you need help please reach out!... You have me. You have us Ethan.” I am too shocked to even reply, she can really read me unlike others.  “Please just please! Don't keep everything to yourself Ethan." She said, staring directly into my eyes. Concerned, sadness and anger can be heard from her voice. The wind blew and her hair swayed. I felt like everything stopped, just us looking at each other… My smile broke down, the walls I built so my family and friends won’t be worried broke down. I can’t really hide things from her, I know she noticed it- my pretend happiness… from the very start. All the memories of that summer night resurfaced...
