Chapter 1. Sad Man
"Quickly sign these divorce papers!" shouted a beautiful blonde woman.
"Why would you do that to me?" A tall man looked at the woman blankly.
"Tsk, why do you ask? Of course it's because I'm bored, and now you're not as attractive as before. All you have is a handsome face, but look at how you look now, just like a tramp!"
They are Valencia and Jake Anderson. A husband-and-wife couple is having a big fight. Suddenly, Valencia asked Jake for a divorce for no apparent reason. Of course, this made Jake confused and curious.
At first, Valencia seemed to really love and adore Jake because of the man's handsome face. Her attitude was even so gentle and kind that it made Jake lulled and crazy about her. Whatever she asked for, Jake always tried to fulfill it.
Their marriage, which has lasted for 5 years, seems to have no meaning to Valencia. Even though Jake really adheres to his commitment and promises to always be loyal to Valencia until death do us part, even though they haven't had a baby yet.
"I'm like this because of you! You spent our savings, but I never objected. When you wanted to play with your friends, I didn't stop you either. What's wrong?" said Jake.
Valencia grinned, then walked over to Jake, who looked frustrated. She tidied Jake's messy hair, then gently stroked her chin while smiling mockingly. "I used to want to marry you because I thought your handsome face would bring good luck. I was also happy when my friends felt jealous because I had a very handsome husband," explained Valencia.
"However, now your good looks have started to fade, and you are poor. How could I survive with you?" she added in a rising voice.
Valencia's words made Jake smile bitterly. He never thought that the wife he loved so much would be so cruel. His eyes even widened when he saw a man come over to Valencia and immediately kiss his wife's lips passionately. Like a fool, Jake could only stare with his body frozen. Especially when he saw that the man who was making out with his wife was the boss of the company where he worked.
"Do you understand now? What I need is a handsome and rich man, not a shabby and poor man like you," said Valencia sarcastically.
Samuel, the man who is Valencia's mistress and Jake's boss at the office, smiled mockingly at the poor man. He hugged Valencia tightly and kissed Valencia's forehead and nose briefly.
"You are not worthy of Valencia. You should be aware of yourself and quickly sign the divorce papers," ordered Samuel.
"I will never sign those divorce papers!" Jake refused firmly.
"Tsk! Damn you!" cursed Valencia, who was annoyed.
She was about to step up and hit Jake, but was blocked by Samuel. Until this moment, Jake never thought that Valencia could change that drastically overnight. In fact, yesterday his wife was still acting spoiled toward him, so he felt that their domestic life was fine.
"I will try more. I will work harder and pay more attention to my appearance from now on. Don't force me to sign those divorce papers, Valencia!" asked Jake, who still really loves Valencia.
"You won't be able to do that because, starting today, I'm firing you from the company on charges of embezzlement of funds," said Samuel arrogantly.
Jake's eyes widened perfectly. So far, he has always worked well and has not done anything dirty, like Samuel said. He really couldn't accept being slandered like that.
"Don't talk nonsense! I have never embezzled funds!" Jake argued.
"Shut up!" Valencia screamed.
For a moment, the atmosphere became silent. This was the first time Jake saw a different side of Valencia. He felt that his wife was like other people.
"Sign the divorce papers while I'm still being nice. I've had enough of pretending to be an understanding wife in front of you all this time, and I want to end it tonight," she added.
Jake was still silent where he was. He still didn't want to sign the divorce papers. He believes that it is possible that Valencia has had a bad influence on Samuel so that he can change.
Memories of the first time Valencia met Samuel appeared in Jake's head. It was a party welcoming Samuel as the new CEO of his company, and employees were allowed to bring their partners. It was possible that since then Samuel had been trying to seduce Valencia because of her beauty and incite his wife; that was what was on Jake's mind.
"It looks like he doesn't want to cooperate. I will make him sign the divorce papers quickly," said Samuel.
Samuel took his cell phone out of his jacket pocket and called someone. Not long afterward, several burly men broke into the apartment and immediately beat Jake brutally. In a cornered condition, Jake tried to fight back.
However, one against five was unbalanced, so he could do nothing but protect himself from the blow.
"You i***t!" sneered Valencia while looking at Jake in disgust.
Jake's heart was deeply hurt when he saw the expression on his wife's face. He didn't even realize when his hand was forced to hold a pen to sign the divorce papers.
"Hurry up and sign it if you still want to be safe and want to live!" said Samuel, but Jake kept his hand still while looking at him sharply.
"Hah, damn!" cursed Valencia, who couldn't bear to end her relationship and walked over to Jake. Valencia squatted down, then said something to Jake.
"Actually, I never paid your mother's hospital bills all this time. Ah, I think you can imagine how your crazy mother must have suffered! She must have been thrown out of a mental hospital and died somewhere. You must have been fooled by those fake photos!"
Jake's blood boiled when he heard Valencia's words, even though he had always entrusted his mother to his wife. He didn't want to believe it, but he heard it himself from Valencia's mouth. For Jake, his mother is everything. He believes his mother is fine because Valencia always sends photos with her mother when she visits the hospital. Finally, he understood the real reason why Valencia forbade him from coming to the hospital.
"How could you do that? You said my mother forbade me from coming because she wanted me to work hard," whispered Jake, who suddenly felt hopeless thinking about his mother's fate.
"You're the only one who's easily fooled. You love me too much to just believe everything I say. You should use your brain," said Valencia as she pointed her index finger in front of Jake's face.
"You shouldn't have married him in the first place, darling. You're just wasting your time and energy," said Samuel provokingly.
Jake didn't know what he was feeling anymore because it was too painful. In the end, he, who had given up hope and lost confidence, signed the divorce papers voluntarily. It was impossible for him to maintain this destroyed household any longer. After Jake finished signing, Valencia immediately took the divorce papers. She and Samuel laughed with satisfaction because their plan had succeeded.
"Now you don't have anything anymore. All the assets you have are mine, including this apartment. Yes, even though it's not much, just think of this as compensation because I have accompanied you for 5 years," said Valencia.
"Thank you also for supporting the lives of my mother and my brother Kevin. Now, my live will be much better without you. If you have time, come to Kevin's wedding later. This is a direct invitation from me," she added.
Jake's limp body was helplessly dragged by the man sent by Samuel. He was kicked out of the apartment he bought himself and thrown onto the street like an animal that his owner no longer wanted.
"Why is this happening to me?" Jake was so frustrated.
He walked in the middle of the highway, staggering and full of disappointment because, in a matter of hours, his world was shattered into pieces. The roads were quite quiet because it was almost midnight, plus he was now on the outskirts of town. There was only moonlight to help light the way.
Suddenly, there were bright car lights heading towards him. Jake tried to cover his vision with his hands, but the glare of the lights continued to penetrate, and the vehicle's speed grew faster.
"Oh, God. Is this the help you sent me?" Jake hoped.
A faint smile appeared on his lips. However, the speed of the vehicle was getting faster toward him. Instantly, the hope that had appeared slowly faded. Jake let out a soft breath, and his legs could barely support his body.
"Will the end of my life be as miserable as this? Am I going to die here?" Jake muttered.
His gaze was blank when he saw the car getting closer to him.
Brak!!!
