Chapter 4: Fired

999 Words
Chelsea's household. The household was dirt poor, with nothing but bare walls and outdated appliances, but everything was kept spotlessly clean. Even though they were descendants of the Davis family, they had fallen into such dire straits. It was clear that over the years, Chelsea had suffered many grievances within the Davis family. Watching the young girl nearby, Sean felt a wave of sympathy. The night was serene under the tranquil moonlight. Chelsea stepped out of the bathroom, her damp hair draped over her alluring shoulders, her nightgown subtly revealing her curves. In that moment, Sean, lying on the floor, was utterly entranced. Even though they were officially married, Sean had no intention of overstepping boundaries. Chelsea sat on the edge of the bed, her cheeks burning, her heart pounding with nervousness. It was her first time sharing a room with a stranger. Neither of them spoke. The night was eerily quiet. Just as she was about to pull up the covers and drift off, a phone call shattered the stillness. It was Chelsea's phone! She glanced at the caller ID—Calvin. Her heart skipped a beat, knowing this couldn't be good news. But she steeled herself and answered. "Haha, Chelsea, your family's done for!" "Starting today, you're officially fired. Don't bother coming to work at Wealthy Estates tomorrow!" "That loser dared to hit me! This is what he gets!" Calvin's voice was filled with pent-up anger, ranting over the phone. Chelsea's mind went blank. Clenching her fists, she retorted, "Why? You can't just fire me like that!" "Ha! This is a direct order from Grandma. Listen up, no matter how good you are, you can't beat me," Calvin boasted smugly, "I'm the eldest grandson of the Davis family. Don't think Wealthy Estates can't run without you. The project you were handling is now mine. Just wait and see!" Hearing this, Chelsea's hands began to tremble. For the past two years, she had been putting up with Calvin, working tirelessly for the Davis family. She had climbed from a mere sales assistant to a marketing director, enduring countless hardships and swallowing her pride. She had thought Grandma would punish her, but never imagined she would be so ruthless as to directly fire her from Wealthy Estates. "You're nothing but a family parasite, get lost!" As the call ended, Chelsea couldn't hold back her tears, which streamed down her face in the dark night. Sean, watching the crying girl nearby, felt a deep ache in his heart. In that moment, he wanted to tell her, "Do you remember the person who ate your hot bun twelve years ago?" He's back now, so there's nothing to fear! He'll protect you! But he swallowed the words back. "Mason, I need you to look into something," Sean texted. "Sean, what do you need?" The reply was almost instant! "Is there a PurpleGold Group in Cloud City?" "Yes, Sean. The person in charge is Zachary, who once served in the Northern Frontier under your command. He later returned to start a business, and with your financial support, it has become one of the top enterprises in Cloud City." "Alright, spread the word! My wife's Wealthy Estates recently has a contract with PurpleGold Group. No one but my wife is allowed to sign it!" "If anyone disobeys, they'll be dealt with by military law!" "Understood! I'll handle it immediately!" After sending the message, Sean turned back to gaze affectionately at Chelsea. Girl, I won't let you be wronged anymore. In the Davis family, no one can take your place! At the Yue Lai Foot Massage. Zachary was relaxing with his eyes closed, enjoying the service of a beautiful masseuse when his phone suddenly rang, showing Mason's name. He sprang up in alarm. It was Colonel Mason from the Northern Frontier, his former superior. Over the years, it was Mason's secret financial backing that had allowed PurpleGold Group to reach its current scale. "Mason, what can I do for you at this late hour?" Zachary asked cautiously, afraid of saying the wrong thing and angering Mason. Mason conveyed Sean's message. "Understood! I'll get it done for you!" Zachary nodded. The following morning. Quinn, Chelsea's mother, worried that Sean might have 'taken advantage' of her daughter the previous night, burst into the room as soon as she woke up. Seeing one sleeping on the bed and the other on the floor, she felt slightly relieved. "Chelsea, hurry up and get out of bed, you don't want to be late for work," Quinn urged. Chelsea rubbed her tear-stained eyes, trying to sound nonchalant, "Mom, starting today, I can't go to work anymore..." "Why?" Quinn asked, in shock. "Last night, Calvin called me. He said Grandma ordered my dismissal from Wealthy Estates..." Chelsea said, feeling hurt. Fired? Quinn's face turned pale with disbelief. Her daughter had just gotten married, and now Grandma had fired her? "Chelsea, tell me what's really going on? Your grandma can't be so cruel to fire you right after your wedding," Quinn pressed. "Mom, please don't say anything more. Grandma never cared about me..." As Chelsea spoke, tears welled up in her eyes again. Seeing her daughter's distress, Quinn felt a wave of sympathy and immediately turned her gaze to Sean. "Oh, this is all your fault!" "Our family must have terrible luck to have taken in such a useless deadbeat like you!" "Get out, just get out! I don't want to see you anymore!" Quinn vented all her anger on Sean. Sean remained silent. "Mom, don't blame Sean. He didn't do anything. If anyone's to blame, it's the Davis family for being so heartless..." "I've figured it out. In the past two years working at the Davis family business, no matter how hard I tried, I was never respected. All I got was mocked, ridiculed, and belittled. I'm done with such a life. Being fired is actually a relief. I can find another job," Chelsea said, with a determined bite of her lip.
