It's in my Blood; Kate Renaldi

Kate I bring my bag with my training clothes in, we'll have a gym from the morning. The problem is that today we are going to learn martial arts, something I already know about. But, the big question is why teachers want us to practice it. I get on the bus, I plug in my earphones and listen to music. I have not had a life like most people. My mother left me when I was six years old, my father was at home on perm until my brother was sixteen. I get off the bus when it's at school, I go to the few friends I have. Because my father is in the military and I get the training that the others dream of, including that I do not behave like most girls here, no one wants to be with me. "Hello girls!" I say in a gentle voice. "Hi Kate!" they say in unison and come over and hug me. "You'll have good luck with the gym today. I wish I could join in." says one of my friends Jessica. "Yeah, damn it. Imagine seeing you beat the guys, it would have been fun to watch." Sara says, laughing. The school bell rings, we split up and I go to the gym. I go into the girl's wardrobe and change. I enter the gymnasium, the teacher and some of the students are already here. I stand for myself, as usual. After a quarter of an hour everyone is here, we are divided into pairs, I am paired with a girl. A quarter of an hour into the class, the teacher calls the teacher, he looks at me and asks me to come. He's talking to someone, I do not understand why I have to come, I have nothing to do with that conversation. "Kate, it's your brother." said the teacher. I can see from his expression that there is something he does not like, he is a little pale and has some sweaty tears of the gutters. I'm getting the phone. "This is Kate Renaldi." I say on the phone. "Kate, you have to get out of town and go to the nearest military base, bring as many as you can. Have power on your phone and the GPS signal on." my brother says on the phone in a determined voice. "Is something wrong?" I ask, a little worried. "We have received a report of a terrorist attack not far from the school." he said. "Okay, I'm leaving right away." I say. "Kate, be careful." he says. "I will." I say, and turns off the phone. I turn around for the teacher to deliver the phone, but, everyone in the gym class is standing there. Most people have fear in their eyes. I give the teacher his phone. "If you have the phone on, turn it off and save power." I say firmly. I see that someone picks up their phone, the rest is calm. We're really supposed to have the phone in the locker room, but, not everyone listens to it. I'm one of those people who does not listen. I look at the teacher. "Do you have a map of the municipality here and those nearby??" I ask. "I have maps of the whole country." he says. "Can I borrow it ??" I ask. "Yes." he says. He goes into the locker room and comes out five minutes later, he gives me the map. I unfold the map and look for the nearest base. "Burn the map, we can not trust others to see it." I say. "Do you remember the map by looking at it for five minutes?" Asks the other boy. I look up to him. "The route we are going to go, yes. The bad news is that we have to walk several miles, about three days trip if we keep the same pace and do not have as many breaks. Four days max." I say. The boy looks shocked. The teacher finds a match and burns the map. "Then we start." I say. I lead the group and we start to walk.
