Episode.1
Illyan POV
“You will be promoted from being a kitchen staff to working in the palace as an actual maid and serve the Alpha king.”
Those words are the reason for my broad grin right now. Being a palace maid is much better than working in the palace. You get to serve the Alpha king, be a maid more and usually get tipped generously by some wealthy werewolves as if they're in a hotel. All those are perks of the job, good perks, but they are not the reason for the wicked grin on my face.
“Everyone, make a straight line for the Alpha king to pass.” Maple, a palace maid, ordered, and everyone stopped their cleaning and did as she instructed, I included.
I was there because I knew the Alpha king, Asher, would be passing by this hour and I hadn't gotten the chance to meet him yet, ever since I was promoted yesterday, I couldn't wait to see him,. So I used the excuse that I was now a palace maid and had entered the inner palace even though I hadn't been assigned any tasks yet.
As I got in line with the rest, eager to see the Alpha king, I noticed the other maids giving me scornful looks at every side. A maid at my side snickered when my elbow grazed her arm.
The spite I was receiving was not unexpected, you see, the other maids spite me because they all claim I doesn’t deserve this promotion, and I shouldn't even have this opportunity since I'm a war slave, but I don't agree. I've worked for a year, tirelessly, just for this promotion, just so I could fulfill my goal and I do not intend on backing down now because some maids think otherwise.
“What's wrong with you, Iris?” Maple standing across me barked at the maid standing beside me who had snickered because we touched.
“Because I don't want filthy slaves touching me. She doesn't deserve to be here and I'm sure you know that too.” She retorted.
“What I'm sure of is that Illyan worked tirelessly for a year while you on the other hand have been lazy, throwing yourself at every rich male wolf that enters the palace, this job is for hard workers not sluts.” Maple shot back.
Burn! Thanks maple! You go girl!
I gave maple a small smile after watching Iris’s smug look disappear to that of a criminal, everyone was astonished and disgusted by her as well.
Maple is my best friend and only friend here ever since I was brought here, at first I was cold to everyone, including her but she never gave up on me and soon I was engulfed in her warm kindness and we became friends. She's truly an awesome friend and I'm glad she has my back.
Maple winked back at me before putting and a straight face and we both went back to being professional as the Alpha king presence began engulfing us.
I could feel his eminent aura, he wasn't the Alpha king for nothing. Face against him on a one on one, I'd be swatted like a fly.
His footsteps were heavy as he strode along like he owns the world which honestly, he probably does but that doesn't matter to me, I have already made up my mind.
I slowly peeked up so I could see him, the Alpha king, the man who's destined to die by my hands no matter what.
Suddenly, he halted and turned back, our eyes met and my heart beat immediately accelerated. I was caught red-handed, staring at him when my head should be bowed like the other maids beside me.
He must have sensed me looking, I'm such a fool for thinking, Asher, the great Alpha king who's practically a legend at this point and a seasoned warrior wouldn't notice my stare. What's going to happen now? Will I get fired? Demoted? Killed?
Oh moon goddess, if you're still in the tiniest bit on my side, please don't let all my hard work go down the drain just like this.
“Psst!” I looked in the direction of the sound, and it was Maple. It was clear she was in shock and disbelief, horror was also evident on her face as it was white as sheet. She gestured for me to look down and I immediately came back to my senses and did as she instructed.
My heart was still beating fast with what just happened but I don't think anything bad will happen, the Alpha king didn't look too happy but he also didn't looked pissed either. He had an expressionless look on, a look everyone says he always wear on.
He probably did nothing because he was used to maids trying to look at him and I hope he doesn't do anything to me if that's the case.
Thinking about it more, if he wanted to fire me, he would have done it immediately but he's not, instead he continued his long heavy strides down the paved way cleared by the maids.
Phew.
Like I said, working in the palace would give you a lot of benefits which I've listed and although tempting but are not the reason why I worked tirelessly to get here. It would have if only I was just like every other maid here and was from this pack but I'm not.
My true motive for working in the inner palace is to get close to the werewolf walking down the hall right now, the werewolf who brought me here after killing all my family. I must kill him for my family to know peace.
To be honest, when our eyes locked, I had the urge to attack him, plunge out his eyes, but his aura was too strong, reminding me of our strength difference and I regain my composure, not willing to throw all my time days of planning out the window.
I was given a new place to sleep in the maids quarters. It was much spacious than the previous which I had to share with ten other staffs.
I was getting ready for the night when a maid burst through the door, her eyes searched around until it landed on me. Although very low, I cut the growl that escaped from her lips.
“The Alpha king has requested your assistance in his chambers tonight.”
