Chapter 13: Birthday blues

I groaned as I rolled around in the bed, it was late morning but sleep was still evading me so I didn't care. That is until something changed. A smell so intense hit my nose that Nyx began howling and panting in my head. It was familiar and different at the same time, pumpkin and ...sniff....apples..sniff...and cinnamon.

(Mate! It's mate's smell!) Nyx said as we inhaled. I brought the blanket I was wrapped in to my nose and cried in happiness when I realized the smell was coming from the blanket and the hoodie I was wearing. My tears then turned to sorrow as I realized I still had two months until I could hold him again. I numbly got out of bed and walked to the closet and pulled off Thomas's hoodie and pulled on a sports bra and one of his t-shirts and slipped on a pair of white jeggings over my white underwear. I brushed my black hair and left it to fall down to my waist in waves, I slipped a hair tie on my wrist and slipped on my moccasins before walking down to the kitchen where I heard two feminine voices speaking. I smiled when I saw Moira with a young woman, they had come over once a week per my request to have breakfast with me. 

I had appointed Moira as the head chef and each week we came up with plans for pack meals and wrote them on a calendar. I walked to the cabinet to the left of the sink and grabbed a glass before going to the fridge and pouring myself a glass of apple juice. 

"Good morning Luna." Moira said as I sat at the island. 

"Morning." I said as I took a long drink. I was presented with a plate of waffles with strawberries and whipped cream, Moira smiled me, I began crying. I covered my sob and left the kitchen through the french doors, I shifted mid-run tearing my clothes. I was whining as I ran, Nyx was whimpering along with me wanting Deimos as much as I wanted Thomas. 

I found a spot in the woods and layed down and whimpered in the pile of dead leaves. I layed there for a long time before padding back to my house where a teen with black hair and jade green eyes was standing talking to Raider. I bolted to him tackling him and licking his face. 

"Maya!" Lenny squealed as I covered his face in slobbery kisses. "Gross, I got slobber in my mouth!"

I got off him and yipped before turning to Raider who was holding my black robe. I shifted and slipped it on before pulling Lenny into a real hug. "I missed you Lenny." I said into his shoulder. 

"I missed you too Maya." He said back, he was still a bit shorter than me at 5 ft 7. "Go get dressed, mom and dad are coming." I groaned/growled before going into my house and walking up to my room. I pulled on a plum strapless bra and matching cheeky panties, I pulled on a pair of black skinny jeans and a olive green off the shoulder crop top. I put my phone in my back pocket and walked into my bathroom and brushed my hair letting it fall loosely to my waist. I sighed and put on mascara and nude eye shadow with bottom liner and added pink peach lip matte. I put on a pair of black ankle socks and my combat boots then I walked down to my living room where Lenny was sitting on my couch. I walked to the bay window and sat down against the throw pillow I kept there. 

"Ye' 'lright?" Raider asked sitting at my feet.

"I'm fine." I said looking at Lenny. "How's the academy Lenny?" He smiled and began talking about all the friends he had made. 

"Your friend Christian is always asking about you and Tom." My heart clenched at the mention of Thomas and I had to force the tears back. "I hope you don't mind, but I kinda invited him and Xavier here so they could see you and the pack." He said smiling shyly. 

"That's fine Lenny. It'll be nice to see them again." I said leaning my head against the wall. My pocket began vibrating, I pulled out my phone and took it to my office as I answered Thomas's call. 

"Hi Tommy." I said thankful my voice didn't crack. 

"Happy birthday Angel!" He said into the phone. "How has your day been?"

"It's been rough Tommy, I miss you like crazy." I took a deep breath as a silent tear slipped down my face, 

'Thank the goddess I put on the waterproof mascara.' I said to myself in my head. 

"I miss you too Maya, last night I had a dream that you were in my arms. Let's just say I was more than disappointed when I woke up." He sighed. 

"What are you doing today?" I asked sitting down in my office chair. 

"I have to work out an alliance with Flint." He said with a sigh. "I absolutely hate this Maya. It is f*****g torture being away from you." I began to cry softly when I heard how sad he was. 

"I know." That was all I could get out as more tears ran down my cheeks. 

"I've got to go angel, I'll talk to later I promise baby." I nodded and sniffed. "I love you angel mate."

"I love you most Tommy." I said sniffling, I hit the end call button and wiped my nose with tissues and threw it in my trash bin before leaving the office and walking to the closest bathroom and wiping away the few black streaks on my face. I walked back out to the living room with my phone in my back pocket, I was wrapped in Lenny's arms instantly. 

"I'm sorry Maya." He said lightly.

"I hope you never understand." I said pulling away and looking at his face. "Either of you." I looked at Raider who was looking at the floor. 

"We should head to the pack house." Lenny said. I nodded and took a few breaths before steeling my emotions and nodding. 

"Lets go." I said firmly. I grabbed my keys and went to my garage and got in my car, Lenny slid into the passenger seat while Raider went and got in his own car. He had gotten himself a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, it was a sleek black beast that he treated like a baby. I backed out of my garage and closed the door before pulling away and enjoying my hype song on the way to the pack house.

"Move it asshole my turn!" Christian yelled pulling his brother off of me and pulling me into his chest. "Happy birthday!" He said into my neck. I pulled away laughing and rolling my eyes at the two men who looked like overgrown puppies. 

"Hi guys I missed you." I said looking at both of them softly. Christian 'aaaawwww'ed and I scowled at him making Xavier laugh. 

"We've missed you too...do you smell that?" Xavier asked while inhaling. I saw Raider walking over his nose leading him. He and Xavier locked eyes before they both growled in approval. 

"Mate!" They said at the same time as Raider finished his walk over. I grabbed Lenny and Christian and dragged them away giving Raider and Vee privacy. I looked around and saw Matias and Dylan hanging off one another with his dad and my mom, I saw my dad smooching with his mate. I ignored them all and went to the food table and took handful of grapes. 

"Maya." I turned around and saw my dad leading his mate Rosalinda over to me. 

"Hi dad." I said popping another grape into my mouth. "Rosa." 

"Happy birthday sweetheart." He said shyly. 

"Feliz cumpleanos." Rosa said. 

"Gracias Rosa. Como estas?" (Thank you how are you?)

"Muy bien y tu?"(Very well and you?)

"He estado mejor. Echo de menos a mi amor." (I've been better, I miss my love.)

"Tu companero?" (Your mate?)

"Si." 

"I'm sorry to hear that Maya, you are a nice girl and deserve happiness." She said in english. 

"I have it when he's by my side." I said smiling at the ground sadly. "I'll talk you later." I said as my dad began to engage in PDA. I walked around greeting people and thanking them for the congratulations on being able to find my mate. 

"Happy birthday Maya." I turned and saw Samuel and the rest of the council standing behind me. I bowed my head at them with a small smile. 

"Thank you councilwomen and men." I said to them. 

"Has anything changed today?" Samuel asked I nodded and he grinned. 

"Our blanket began to smell different this morning, then Nyx officially identified Tommy as our mate." I sighed and wiped away a rouge tear before shaking my head and smiling pretending I was fine, in reality I was in so much pain. 

(I want what is mine.) Nyx whimper, I almost sobbed but I held myself together. 

"We were right." Zenon said smiling. 

"Yeah." I said tiredly. I noticed some of the council members looked guilty. 

(They f*****g deserve to feel guilty!) Nyx snarled. (We would be with mate if it weren't for them.)

I sighed and waved at them and walked over to the table and ate some food silently. 

"So Maya where is your mate?" Dylan sneered from Matias's lap. "Maybe he got sick of you." Xavier, Lenny Christian and Raider all snarled at her in my defense. I sighed and stood up pushing away my food, all of my guys looked at me worriedly, I NEVER push away food.

"I really don't have the energy to deal with your s**t today Dylan."

"Oh I bet he found his real mate and left your sorry ass behind." As soon as those words left her lips her smug smile was wiped away and replaced with a look of pure terror. A very loud, very pissed off snarl made everyone at the table whimper and shy away. I turned around as strong arms engulfed me, fireworks shot through every inch of my skin where it made contact with his, I put my arms around his neck and held my Thomas tightly. He released his masked scent and I wrapped my legs around his torso, he chuckled into my shoulder as tears of pure happiness spilled from my eyes. 

"Happy birthday angel mate." He said into my neck. I couldn't respond, I just held him tighter. "Dylan leave, if you ever step foot in my territory or come near my mate again I will rip your ugly ass head off your disgusting body." I heard her whimper and Matias growl, I stayed wrapped around my Tommy like a monkey. 

"You pissed on me!" I heard Matias whisper growl. "Get the f**k off."

"Tom! Great to see ye' chum!" I heard Raider say from right behind me. 

"Hey Tom." I heard Xavier say. 

"About f*****g time." Christian whined making Thomas chuckle. "She pushed food away!" His chuckle turned to a gasp. 

"Maya?"

"I was too sad to eat without you." I whined into his neck. "I promise I'll eat later, let me just hold you."

"Hey guys, how've you all been?" He asked while taking a hand and rubbing my back gently. 

"Xavier found his mate and I'm still single!" Christian complained. 

"Who's the lucky wolf Xav?" I turned my head a bit and used my hand to play with Thomas's soft blonde hair.

"Your Beta Raider." Xavier said lowly. I heard a low rumble from Raider's chest as he growled in approval. 

"So are you taking him to be your mate as an Alpha?" Thomas asked. 

"No, my older sister found her mate Reinaldo and they combined packs. I have been looking for my mate to decide where to go once Christian graduates in the summer he was to join me." Xavier responded. 

"Now I'll be alone." Christian sighed. 

"Or......you can stay here as my gamma." Thomas said. 

"If your joking, I'll murder you in your sleep." I whipped my head around and snarled at Christian who shrunk away while everyone else laughed. Christian put his hands up and I huffed at him before putting my head back down on Thomas's shoulder. 

"I'm not joking Chris." Thomas said still chuckling a bit.

"Well my answer is a simple f**k Yeah!" Christian yelled. I giggled a little my breath blowing on his neck made Thomas shiver. I placed a butterfly kiss on his neck, sparks danced on my lips even after I pulled my face away. I pulled back looking into Thomas's captivating brown eyes. 

"Hi Tommy." I said, he smiled and wiped some hair out of my face. "I wanna show you something." He let me climb down and I turned to everyone and waved good-bye before taking his hand and leading him to my car.
