The first time Zavia saw Liam was on a live interview broadcast. His looks were out of this world, with a face that could make any woman falter. But when it came to those forest green eyes...they were cold to the point where she got shivers the moment he looked at the camera. Still, she was drawn to him in a way that was beyond anything she’d ever felt before. Love at first sight, she had called it.
After weeks of worshipping his existence, Brenda was the one who hooked her up with this job, saying her family had ties with him. She not only got a hefty pay, food and accommodation for six days per week, but also the privilege of oggling him. He had pretty much everything stacked on that body... wicked green eyes, black hair that looked as soft as satin, kissable lips and drool-worthy, panty-dropping muscles selfishly hidden away under his suits.
He was a man who could ruin her at the drop of a hat, yet she ached for him every moment they were together, watched him work through the papers piled in his study while imagining those hands between her legs, listened to him scold her for doing something wrong while her body was busy begging for a whole different kind of punishment.
She was always desperate for him to look at her, desperate to strip herself bare everytime their eyes locked. But a man like that would never want her, not in this lifetime. She knew that and yet, as if she was trapped in a crazy dream, Liam was behind her now, his breath on her skin.
Zavia swallowed thickly, stuck between the counter and him. She didn’t want to turn around, fearing he’d see the embarrassing expression on her face. Instead, she wanted to run and hide like a frightened mouse. But her body was already weeping for more contact, the familiar warm caress of desire dancing over her.
She shook her head, palms over her hot cheeks. Squeezing her eyes shut, she reminded herself that Liam was drunk. She could smell the liquor on him. Any other day, he’d never even allow her to bump shoulders with him, much less graze an inch of his clothing. It had been as if he was allergic to women, or to her in particular.
That’s why she had to be the responsible person now!
“M-Mr Pain, I apologize bu---"
“You broke the rules, Miss Brooks.” She felt the brush of his fingers against the exposed skin of her abdomen where her shirt had rolled up. It felt as if there was fire under his touch, a sweet kind of fire that made a jolt of electricity course through her. Zavia's breath hitched as he firmed his grip, holding her waist. She could feel the rise and fall of his chest, along with the firm outline of his muscles against her back. He was shirtless and that realization...made her ache.
“You know I hate tardiness, don’t you?” His voice was closer, next to her ear.
A line of sweat trickled down her neck, slipping between her breasts. "S-Sir?" She squeaked out, tipping up on her toes when his fingers moved, roaming her skin. She shivered, trembling lips pressed together. Her n*****s stood tall, raking against the fabric of her shirt. "W-What are you doing?"
“How will you redeem yourself?” He asked, his breath uneven as the tip of his nose traveled along her shoulder. He stopped at the crook of her neck, burying his face there. “Hmm?”
Her cheeks flushed even darker. She felt dizzy.
“I...d-don’t know...”
“Your scent...” He slurred. His brows knitted together slightly, lips parted as he breathed her in again and again. He didn’t understand it, how a scent that was usually subtle, had blossomed into something so flowery and powerful. But that wasn’t all. Something else lingered, drifting into his nostrils from beneath her soaked underwear. “...I could smell you from a mile away...”
Those words were like a hard slap to the face. Her hand flew up, pressing to her neck. Slowly, she drifted through her memory, paling when realization dawned on her...she couldn’t remember taking her pills today!
To the world, Zavia Brooks was just an ordinary human. But she had a secret: she was what remained of a family of Breeders.
Her grandmother used to tell her stories, stories of shapeshifters who walked amongst them. And her own kind...once had a single purpose: to serve them.
A breeder’s scent was bewitching, enough to make a mere human fall intoxicated at a sniff. Pills were what kept her hidden, unexposed to the people around her.
She had sworn never to make any mistakes, never to forget. But today... it happened.
This was not only dangerous, but wrong on so many levels. She had to push him away, she had to get out of there.
But Zavia found herself stuck between two walls, desire and conscience fighting for control. It felt like she had unleashed something that could never be contained again.
She was going to be fired anyway, wasn’t she?
Fingers took her chin and she let him, turning her head. The hand on her waist drifted up, climbing her chest until his fingertips circled her throbbing n****e. She gasped, breath meeting his.
By then, Liam’s eyes were hazy, drowning in a dangerous state of mindless desire. The scent of her arousal had overwhelmed him like a drug and he was hungry, pressing harder against her as if desperate to feel her skin to skin. It was her first time seeing him like this, her first time seeing anything except his cold icy expression. And as she stared at him, this new version of the man she loved...it felt as if she was the one bewitched.
Her stomach flipped, heart hammering in her chest. Their faces were inches away, just a bit further and she’d cross the point of no return. She hesitated, her tongue swiping over her bottom lip. Liam followed the movement, unblinking green eyes locked on her mouth.
Without a moment’s warning, his lips crashed onto hers, initiating the kiss she’d dreamt of too many times to count. His hand cupped the back of her neck, head tilting as his tongue thrust in.
It was Zavia’s first kiss and she was a clumsy mess, unable to keep up. But he devoured her mouth without stopping for air, alcohol swimming on his tongue.
She liked it...the way he tasted, the way he was hungry for her. She didn’t want it to end.
And it didn’t.
They stumbled into the bedroom, hands clumsily stripping away their clothes across the floor. He ravished her body and mind, taking her innocence all night.
It was heavenly.
Until...it wasn’t.
She woke up to him sitting across the room in his usual suit of black, an envelope in his hand. Without even looking at her, he pulled back the sleeve of his dress shirt, checking the watch on his wrist. A breath left his lips, heavy with displeasure.
Before she could even apologize, he stood up, throwing the envelope at her chest. The cash slipped out and Zavia trembled the moment she saw it. It was at least triple her pay.
“S-Sir, I--”
“You’re fired.”
