Alyra, I need you.
The dark figure stepped closer to me. I stopped dead in my tracks. How did they know who I was? For the first time in over a hundred and forty years, I felt actual fear. No one was supposed to know my actual form here in the mortal realm, let alone see me as I am in a new body. My eyes grew bigger as the man closed the distance in between us in a flash. He was immortal for sure, but I couldn't see who he was even though the bridge was well lit and the cars going by lit up the surrounding area.
His hand reached out for mine. "Who are you?" I asked as I pulled my hand away from his.
The blue light buzzed by and landed on his shoulder. I looked closer and sure enough, there was a small fairy dressed in a gorgeous blue dress. She had long red curly hair and a blue flowered crown on the top of her head.
"How?" I asked as I stared at the fairy.
"Same way you got here, your highness." The small fairy answered.
She was smaller than usual to the point that she was the size of a large butterfly. I shifted my gaze back to the man.
"Still did not answer my first question, who are you?" I asked again.
"I am fairy Isabell from the Bellows land of fairies and this is Lord Kail Maximal of Draxius of the sea kingdom." The fairy bowed her head as she introduced both of them.
"Lord Kail, how do you know who I am? I am in banishment, no one is supposed to know who I am," I asked. My eyes never left his figure. He was dressed in a long black leather trench coat with an oversized hood that draped over his face. I couldn't see his face even if I tried to peer through the darkness.
"Lord Kail has unfortunately lost his voice along the journey here, your highness, please forgive his rudeness," Isabell answered. He slightly tilted his head towards Isabell for a few seconds before looking back towards me.
"Your highness, Lord Kail and I have traveled through this realm searching for you. We have been looking for many years."
"Why?" I asked. He tilted his head again towards Isabell.
"Lord Kail is in dire need of your assistance, Princess."
"What kind of...assistance? And why me? There are plenty of elves back home that could have helped with whatever you are looking for. I do not possess any powers here." I took a step closer.
"Yes, your highness, we understand but," she stopped mid-sentence, as if someone had interrupted her. "Can we speak somewhere less in the open your highness?" Isabell looked around us.
I nodded and turned towards my street. I forgot where we were at first. It was like we were in a bubble of silence even on the busy Brooklyn Bridge. The air was light for a summer's night but with my nerves on high alert, my body was freezing. As I reached my apartment, the door man opened the door. "Good evening, Ms. Simon." His smile was big as I entered the building. I turned around to explain the dark figure but they were gone. What? I swear they were following me. I gave a confused look as I stared at the closed door and door man.
"Are you okay, Ms. Simon? Can I get you anything?" the doorman asked.
I shook my head and gave him a smile. "Oh no, sorry I thought I saw Mr. Carlson behind me. I must have been mistaken. Have a good night, Carl." I turned and pushed the elevator button.
I reached my apartment on the top floor. I placed my keys on the hallway table and took my heels off. I could have sworn they were following me. I shook my head and giggled a little as I walked into my living room. Maybe I hallucinated the whole thing. But as I was going to rule myself an insane person, there he was sitting at my dining room table with the now full-sized fairy sitting across from him. He still had his hood up, but I could tell his figure now that his coat was open a bit.
"You said you got here the same way I got here Isabell, but how do you both still have your magic?" I asked as I took off my blazer and placed it on the back of the couch. I walked to the table and sat down next to the fairy so I could keep Kail in front of me.
"Yes, I did say that, didn't I?" She turned her body to face me. "Well, we are not banished like you, but when you were sent through the realms, so were we." she motioned to herself and Kail.
"So you've been in this realm this entire time I've been here, stuck?" I asked.
"Yes, Lord Kail has been..." she paused again. Her facial expression went blank as she looked at Kail. "Are you sure sir?" She asked Kail, then nodded. As I waited for her to continue talking, Kail slowly raised his hands from under his coat. On one hand, there were tattoos all the way up his arm and what looked like burn marks on his other hand. I let out a quiet little gasp as he slowly started to pull back his hood from his face.
"Finnegan?" I asked.
Finnegan stared at me with his sharp blue eyes. I was so confused. I knew something was off when we first met, but this was not what I was expecting whatsoever. He slowly placed his hands back down and stared at me, then Isabell. You could tell he was talking to her.
"How?" Wait, what do you mean you can't talk? We literally have been meeting for the past week and you could talk then." I asked him.
I was talking to you through our mind connections, not out loud, Alyra.
"No, no, no, no, no, we had a full on board meeting with my company. What do you mean you talked to me through our minds. I don't believe you one bit."
Your company could hear what I wanted them to hear, but personally, I have lost my voice and talked to you here since my voice has been taken.
"What do you mean taken?" I asked as I glanced between both of them.
The night that Killian was killed and you banished here, I was on my way to your kingdom to form an alliance between our kingdoms. I was on my way to propose to you. But as your father deemed your fate to this land, I was caught in the crosshairs when I tried to plead for your life. Isabell had always been by my side since infancy, so naturally, when I fell into the portal, she flew after me.
I glanced at Isabell. "Your loyalty is unmatched, Isabell." I gave her a smile and continued to stare at Kail.
"But how did you lose your voice? And how have you both stayed out of sight this entire time?" I asked Kail.
We are unclear about the voice mishap, as it just happened two weeks ago. But as for the out of sight situation. I have built a hidden place for both of us to stay in until we could find you. We have been looking everywhere for you, but your human form does not give off the same scent as before. It's more of a metal scent that burns the more I am smelling it
I adjusted myself as he said that. My time here has been short, compared to your life sentences. The fortress I have built has the illusion of back home. But the moment we found you, I learned and immersed myself into your world as you would notice me.
Immersed you surely have, why didn't you just come to me from the beginning? I asked him.
We couldn't find you until two weeks ago, when everything changed. I lost my voice, then my powers became glitchy, and Isabell was losing her glow. We were going to give up, but then we saw this light, like a beam in the sky that lead us straight to you. I believe it was fate.
"A beam of light?" I asked Isabell this time.
"Yes, your highness. A beam of light shot out from you and stayed there until we found you. We couldn't explain it ourselves so we tried our best to get ahold of you, but something kept pushing us apart. So, Lord Kail disguised himself as Finnegan and figured out how to get in contact with you."
Kail stood up and slowly took off his jacket. As he did, he shook his body profusely until a much larger man slowly appeared. He had long silver hair and strikingly bright blue eyes. And a massive body built like our elven warriors. I could feel my mouth open slightly as I gazed at this beautiful man standing in front of me. Even in the elven kingdoms, I haven't seen a man as beautiful as Kail was. I could feel my heart start to race a bit. I tried to get a hold of myself as he sat back down.
"What exactly do you think I could do for you?" I took my gaze away from Kail to stare at Isabell.
"We believe your life here is coming to an end," Isabell slowly looked down. "We needed to find you before that happened, so we, too, could return home. We believe our chance to return lies with you." Both Kail and Isabell could not look at me.
"Wait, what do you mean, my life is about to come to an end?" I asked as I realized what they were saying to me.
Was I going to die soon?
