Chapter 4

All too soon he removes his finger and takes his post back at his desk. Jared gives me a smirk before looking back at Conner and Brent. "You two may leave now," my eyes went wide as Conner and Brent took their leave, shutting the door as they exited. Now that it was just Jared and I things weren't looking good from my perspective. "You've always been a rebel Alivia," Jared began after a few moments of silence. "Disobeying my father, doing whatever you wanted when told that you couldn't." okay so maybe I didn't listen well, but that was human nature. I hated listening to authority and acted out when forced to. "When I took the Alpha position, I made those laws so that there would be more discipline," yeah more discipline for me he means. "All I wanted you to do was listen to me and stay put." He stepped nearer to me again, his eyes their deep mocha color once more. Boy did he have some odd mood swings. "Yet you couldn't even do that. Care to explain?" "No not really," I replied boldly, crossing my arms over my chest. My response caused Jared to growl lowly and grab my arm again. He brought me flush to his chest and held me there while I squirmed. "If you're not going to explain then I'll lock you back in your room in the basement." Jared's voice was laced with anger and frustration. I stayed silent with the knowledge that I'd be safer in my room then with the temperamental Alpha Oscar. "Better yet, I'll lock you in my room." My breath caught in my throat when he said that. No f*****g way! I'd rather be locked up in my room in the basement than be in his. Who knows how many girls he's brought in there. Just the thought of that caused me to visibly shudder again. "Got something to say?" Jared asked in a mocking tone. "I'd rather stay in the basement than be locked in your room!" I ripped my arm from his grasp and took a step backwards. "Besides we wouldn't want any of the she-wolves to get angry." That was the breaking point for Jared. "f**k those she-wolves!" he thundered. I gulped and my eyes went wide. Oh man I had made him really angry this time. "I can do whatever the hell I want with my mate!" Jared abruptly closed his mouth and clenched his teeth. "You knew all this time?" I asked slowly. Jared nodded and I closed my eyes as memories of the past played in my mind. If I was his mate, then why did he make all those laws about humans? If I was hit mate why was I subjected to his hate and utter dislike for humans? If I was his mate why was I treated like absolute trash? The questions played through my mind and tears pricked my eyes. "Why?" was the only thing I asked as we stood in silence. Jared ran a hand through his hair and let out a breath. "Alivia...I...there's no good explanation for why I did the things I did." he took a step toward me and felt his rough, calloused hand cup my cheek. "I...just leave and go back to your room. I'll send someone down to get you later." He removed his hand from my cheek and turned to face out the big bay window that overlooked the big backyard. Since I knew that Jared had nothing more to say to me, I slowly backed out of the room and headed downstairs. Upon reaching the landing I saw Conner, Brent, and their mates sitting on the couch. "I still think you deserve death," Brent sneered at me, his eyes narrowed and dark. "If I were Alpha you'd already be dead." "But you're not Alpha," I snapped at him, my annoyance growing with each syllable he spoke. Man was I really pushing my luck today! I couldn't stop the words as they came out of my mouth and the next thing I knew, Brent was on top of me in wolf form. Son of a b***h! He snapped at me, his canines reaching for my neck. I closed my eyes and waited for the pain to come. But it never did. Brent was knocked off of me by another wolf. Conner came over and helped me into a sitting position. "Are you okay?" "Yeah," I muttered watching the two wolves circle each other. "Scared shitless, but okay." Brent's brown wolf lunged for the white wolf, which easily dodged his attack. The white wolf had a small patch of markings on his right ear and left paw. They were the only spots of color and I realized that the wolf was Jared! He lunged in attack for Brent and caught him by the neck, but not sinking his teeth all the way into the flesh. Brent let out a whine, showing his submission and Jared let go, shifting back into his human form. Conner threw them both a pair of sweats and went to help me up. "What in the hell happened here?" No one spoke for a minute until Jared growled. Conner cleared his throat and said, "Brent attacked Alivia." Jared's face went blank, his eyes went black, and his body tensed. What happened next is something I never wanted to see again.
