Chapter 11 - Surprise

Nick's POV

The first time I understood that one's perspective changes about people in a blink of a second. I haven't seen Roy as someone equal to me in the last 7 years. But he knew everything. He could have put the blame of his father's death on me. Instead he came forward to save me. He has been guiding me all through these years suffering all the insults I have been giving him. I really feel ashamed of myself as an arrogant spoiled brat all these years. It was my fault that I judged people on the basis of money. I purposely forgot the lessons about life that my mother had taught me. She always told me to treat everyone equally but I never did. She had shown me with her behavior towards the maids and other servants of our house, how to treat everyone with love and respect.

I have always treated only one person who was just a servant of my family with respect and that's Helga, my nanny. Besides her, I never showed any respect towards the servants. Now that I have understood that I have been shouting at one of the famous chefs of the city whenever I was at my apartment, I feel low. Everyone around me knew my identity but still they were respecting and obeying my father's request and not mine. Mom is right, we reap what we sow. My dad earned the respect he is getting through his behavior. He never ordered anyone, instead always made requests. I wonder how I became like this even after being the son of two great souls.

It was 6.00 when I was able to leave the office. I had given Roy leave after lunch. I never knew he had a lovely family. It was when he told me that he is married and has two children, I realized how less I cared about others. I had even made him work on weekends. That means I had destroyed their family time. Now I want to compensate for everything. That's why I decided to give Roy a week's holiday. I haven't told him about this. First I have to plan and find a good destination for a family vacation. It will be just like a token of gratitude for 7 years of his loyalty. He said that he has a son and a daughter who are twins and are 5 years old. I hope he will be able to spend this evening with his family.

There are just 10 days left for the full moon and that means I will have to send Roy for the family vacation in 2 days. Another important thing to worry about is the 1 month of time dad has given me. I have to use the coming days to find a girl and also handle everything in office in the absence of Roy. I should ask mom's help to choose the best place for a family vacation. I went to find mom as soon as I reached home. She was in the kitchen making dinner for me.

"Mom, I need your help. Please come with me." I pulled mom with me.

"Helga, flip the chicken in the tandoor in three minutes and also marinate the steak with the masala I just prepared." Mom directed on her way out.

"What about the dough of the rotis, Nimmi?" Helga asked. Everyone calls my mom by her name including all the servants. She doesn't like to be addressed as ma'am or madam.

"I'll be back in a few minutes and we can make it together." She said and came with me.

"What's the matter Nick? You could have asked it in the kitchen itself." She said impatiently. She doesn't like to be distracted whenever she is cooking.

"Mom, can you suggest some best places for family vacation?" I asked.

"Are you planning a vacation?" She asked.

"Yes and no. I am planning a family vacation but not for us." I said,

"Then?"

"It's a surprise mom." I said.

"I think I know for whom. Are you planning to send Fred and Selena?" She asked with a smile.

That's when I remembered about them. I heard uncle Fernando saying that they didn't even have a honeymoon. I should plan something for them too. But I have to be really careful as they might get attacked by the enemy packs if they go out of Columbia territory. But I don't know why it always bothers me. How can there be so many packs in just one region, I mean Columbia is a small place to occupy so many packs. Then again I have visited throughout the state of South Carolina in my life and that too by road. I have never been attacked. Another question that bothers me is how they mention Columbia as a state while it's just a capital city.

"Mom before that, answer me why I have been hearing Columbia mentioned as a state when you were discussing it here yesterday? I heard the same thing from Fred and Roy." I asked.

"Well, we mention Columbia as a state because we belong to Columbia. Actually your father is the head Alpha of the entire pack of South Carolina. Every pack says their province name and mentions it as a state. It's our way of saying that we belong to this province. That way each pack gets identified from each other." Mom explained.

"That means the enemy packs are from outside South Carolina." I stated.

"How do you know about the enemy packs?" She asked suspiciously. I can't tell her about Roy and that's when I remembered Dean telling me about his fight with enemy packs.

"Actually my friend Dean, who I recognised as a werewolf at the meeting, was telling me about his fight with the enemy packs. Fred did tell me that all the packs of the state are friendly with each other. So I guessed that the enemy packs would be from outside the state." I somehow made it up.

"Yes, our enemy packs are mostly out of the state. You will understand everything once you become a regular member of the pack. By the way, why did you want to know the best place for a family vacation?" She asked.

"Mom, please just give me some suggestions. Somewhere small childrens could also enjoy it." I asked.

"Well children always love cartoons and what could be a better place than Disney World." She said,

That's perfect for spending a week with your family. Roy's children are going to love the trip. But I don't think that would be suitable for Fred and family. They should go to some place which is both romantic and best for families. I think New York will be the best place but before deciding on the place I should make sure that Selena hasn't been to New York before.

"Thank you Mom, I will go and book tickets." I said and placed a kiss on her cheek and got up to go to my room.

"Nick, tell me what you are planning?" Mom stopped me.

"Mom, after learning about Roy, I really feel bad about how I treated Roy all these years. He is highly qualified to be my secretary. He had been guiding me all through these years without complaining about my behavior. He did all this for me. Now it's my turn to give him at least a chance to spend time with his family. I know I can't go back in time and make everything right. I feel really bad when I think about making Roy work even on weekends. I have been ruining their family time even though it wasn't intentional. I was a selfish, self centered brat. I am going to give Roy a surprise. And going to give him leave for a week to enjoy his family vacation." I explained.

"But Nick, the full moon day is around the corner. How can you send Roy in such a crucial time?" Mom asked.

"I have checked and there are 10 days for the full moon day. I am just sending them for a 7 day vacation. I hope I will get tickets to both Disney World and for the flight." I said before climbing the stairs.

I didn't bother to change and opened my laptop and started booking the tickets. Luckily I got 4 tickets to Disney World. I had to book air tickets and the only tickets available were for tomorrow evening. I will have to inform Roy as soon as possible because they will have to do the packing. I thought of booking tickets to New York but went against it. I will have to talk to my dad first. If he agrees to take care of Fred's business, then there won't be any problem except for uncle Fernando. I don't think mom or dad will have any problem in keeping uncle Fernando here. I decided to ask them later.

Next day I woke up early and dialed Roy's number. He took the call on the third ring.

"Good morning sir. Is there anything I can do to help you?" He asked.

"Yes, hurry up and come to Gareth's house." I said and hung up. He will be freaking out right now. Roy came through the gate within half an hour. He looked really worried.

"What's the matter? Why did you call me here?" He asked.

"You don't have to come to the office today." My words literally shocked him.

"Why? What have I done?" He asked with teary eyes.

"You won't be coming to the office because I am giving you seven days off to spend with your family." I said and took out the flight tickets I collected in the morning.

"These are your flight tickets to Disney World. I have mailed you the tickets to Disney World. Go and enjoy it with your family. I hope your children will love it." Roy still stood unbelievably.

"Roy, you don't have much time to pack your things. Hurry up and tell your family to get ready." Roy hugged me with teary eyes and then literally ran to his car. It felt really good to give others happiness.
