Chapter 1

I woke up with a start. You ever get those dreams where you are falling and just before you hit the ground you startle awake? It was like that but not really as I remember the crash and knew that I had already fallen. I remember the pain and because of this I was completely disoriented. I felt dizzy and nauseated. “You are awake I see." Came a voice that I've never heard before. I looked around to get my bearings. I was on a feather bed that felt heavenly and had some thick blankets on me. The blankets were of a forest green and had some weird looking symbols on them. I was familiar with some of them, but I couldn't remember from where. The bed was a huge bed that was bigger than any king sized bed I've seen before. There was a bear skin rug on the hard wooden floors and a rustic wooden dresser, night stand and desk. There was only one window, and of course a door. As I closed in on the door I noticed to the left of the door there was a fireplace that was made of stone and two lounge chairs in front of it and to the right a little end table. The warmth from the fire was so inviting. It was then that I noticed the young man that sat in one of the chairs. “Are you mute?" He asked. “No." I stated. “Who are you and where am I?" “You are in Five Star Academy and are currently in one of our guest chambers. As for who I am... my name is Dimitri Xander Ivanov. Now for my questions to you. Who are you and how did you get here?" I looked at him like he had three heads and was juggling with them. My mind was racing, and I needed to think of everything before answering. This could be a test, someone went through a lot of trouble if it is, this could be a dream, ouch... no I definitely felt the pinch, or this could be real and I'm definitely in trouble. “My name is Maya Lynn Russell, and I don't know how I got here as I don't know where hear is. Telling me the rating of an academy is not helpful. What is the name of this school and what courses are taught here?" He is now glaring at me as if I have offended him, but I don't know how I could have. As he is glaring at me, I decide to look him over. He is about six foot one inches tall, at least I think as he is sitting but he seems a bit taller than my ex who was six foot, he has medium brown hair that is slightly wavy and green eyes. Not hazel and not bright green but definitely green. He has a strong jaw line but his features are not sharp. He seems to be filled out but not your common buff body. He seems fit but not in an obvious way. “Are you going to just glare at me all day?" I asked with an arched brow. He laughed, “No, but I'm trying to figure you out. You aren't lying, but I feel like there is something you aren't telling me. I'm not sure why you are keeping it to yourself and that worries me. I have to assess and see if you are a threat to our academy." I once again am sure that he is an idiøt. I mean come on are you for real? “So let me get this straight... you, Dimitri, want me to tell you everything that I know. Is this correct?" “Yes.” He said. He looks completely perplexed as I bust my seams, a figure of speech, with laughter. This goes on for a little bit as I just can't help it. I mean come on people he has to be from a different planet to think this way. “Thank you so much," I said as I wipe my tears away. “I needed that laugh. It truly helped my stress levels for sure. You are a complete stranger to me so why, pray tell, would I tell you all that I know when I don't know you. Also there is another little thing that I'm having an issue with... How do I know what you want to know when you aren't asking specific questions?" He looked at me and then smiled. “Now we are getting somewhere! Tell me the last thing you remember and that will help." “Ok. I have decided to trust you a little bit and see if you can help me, so I'll tell you what happened to me, but I do need you to make a promise to me before I tell you anything. Ok?" “I cannot take an oath without know what it is first." He started. “An oath?" I asked. “Wow, you sound like you are from the medieval times. My request is that what I say to you stays between us and that you don't get upset with me after I tell you. Ok?" “I will do my best, though if you pose a threat to the academy or anyone here then I will throw you in the dungeons until your fate is decided. Deal?" “I can live with that. So first off you told me I was at Five Star Academy... I wanted the name of the place not the rating. I know my name, and I remember that I was driving my car in a snow storm when I hit black ice. My car spun out of control. I remember knowing that I wasn't going to make it. I felt the impact and a large amount of pain and that's it. Next thing I know I'm waking up here. So did you help the fire department get me free? Also how long have I been out? I feel mostly healed so it must have been some time." “I'm not sure if I understand what you just told me. There may be a problem with my language communicator. You are saying that you died. Like crashed and then felt pain then nothing. Am I getting that correct?" “Yes. Did I say something wrong?" I asked getting nervous. “This has never happened before. Why would they do this? I must know more before I can make a sound judgement." He mutters to himself. “So you felt like you were dying, correct?" he asked me. “Yes... why do I feel like I'm some place I'm not supposed to be?" I asked. “What do you mean by that?" Dimitri asked. “There is a charged feeling in the air. It feels familiar but not at the same time. It is kinda like the gravity is off a bit but not by much." I tried to explain. I'm not sure that I'm getting the feeling that I'm feeling across to him. “So you are a scholar." He stated. His eyebrows raised at this and he seemed to be in really deep thought. “A scholar? I'm not sure what you mean. I haven't completed that high of schooling to be considered one as far as I know. Why would you come to the conclusion that I am one?" He looked at me surprised. “You understand gravity and can feel the shift of gravity. It makes you an earth Fae with a sub affinity to water. This is not uncommon. The main thing is to get your memories cleared up so that we can work on getting you to where you belong." Once again, he isn't making sense. “A Fae? Are you for real? Why would you even say something like that? Ok... I won't panic but if you are insane I'm going to need you to get out of this room now. I don't want to hurt you." He looked at me perplexed. You would think that I was under a microscope and he couldn't tell what I am. “Why would the mention of Fae scare you so much?" He asked. “It doesn't scare me but you are. Fae aren't real and you talking about them means that you are delusional. That is what scares me." I start to study him as I said this. He is thinking so he doesn't notice me zoning out while looking at him. He seems nice but delusional people can be dangerous. I mean come on... my mom was extremely dangerous. I'm too much of a survivor to allow him to hurt me. I start running through different scenarios and how I can protect myself in each one. My main concern is if he is the only one in the room so I pretend to be curious and look around, never giving him complete access to my back. My mannerisms seem to fascinate him. I have cleared the room and have placed myself away from him and with my back to a wall. Some would say not to do this but come on, let's be honest here, I can fight my way through him or even shock him and run out the door but what if while I'm fighting him one of his friends or cohorts come through the door and my back is to it. It would be the end of me. No thanks, I'm not going out that easily. “You are a complete mystery to me. You are showing the mannerisms of all of the different types of Fae. I don't know how you are doing that." He seems excited as he says this. “Jacob, Nathan, and Damion will want to speak with you to make sure though." More nut jobs... Yeah I'm not sticking around to see them. One is dangerous enough, but I may have a chance to survive. Anymore than one... not a snowballs chance in hêll. I have decided on my escape route and just wait for the right time. Timing is everything when you are a survivor.
