Chapter 6

1843 Words
Jacob seemed happy now that I wanted to sever the bond, but I’m not sure how I feel. I know that they need this, and so who am I to stand in their way. I head back to the gatehouse and ask when we would be leaving and the other three look at me with strange looks. “What’s up?” I ask them. “Why are you suddenly ok with going to the academy and being in danger?” Quietly asks Nathan. “Are you upset with me? I know that I’ve been an ã-hole, but please don’t run from us.” He pleads with me. I did a double take. I then start looking around. “Surely it’s here somewhere.” I muttered as I looked around. “What are you looking for?” Dimitri asked. “The cameras have to be around here somewhere. This has to be a prank of some sort. Nathan is being nice and from what I know he isn’t normally.” I explain. I then smack my forehead and said, “Oh, I get it! You and Jacob swapped your personalities and that’s the reason for your different attitudes!” “What are you talking about?” Nathan asks. “I’m always nice!” I stare at him like he is speaking a different language. “Yeah… sure you are. You are a sweetheart.” Once again I’m using a ton of sarcasm. Jacob comes into the room just as I’m done talking, and I know that it is time to go to the academy. “How long will it take to get there? Is it a long walk?” I ask tentatively. I’m a bit worn out from everything that has happened, and I’d like to get settled into a room and sleep. Maybe things will be better in the morning. “We will be going by car.” Says Damon. “It will only take about ten minutes from here by car.” “You have cars in this world?” I ask super surprised. “Of course we do. What did you think? That we are barbarians that walked everywhere?” Asks Nathan. And… he is back! I thought. “No, I thought that being Fae and that there is magic here that you would have a more environmentally friendly means of transportation. I mean come on, you have all these possibilities and you got with the archaic means of car.” I rant to Nathan. For some reason when he and I bütt heads, I feel so alive and comfortable. His little show of caring really unsettled me so I’m glad that he is back to what I’m used to. Look at me saying used to, just like I knew these guys forever instead of just a half a day. Yeah… I need some sleep so I can get my head on straight. It must be the bond that has me so comfortable with these guys. I think to myself. “The car is here.” States Jacob. He seems a bit out of sorts. I’m not sure what is going through his mind. “So let’s go through the plan one last time before we go out to the car. I want to make sure that we are all on the same page. Maya was found at the border with a head injury. We brought her to the gatehouse to heal her. We found that her memory is gone and we are bringing her to the academy so that she can finish healing and learn everything all over again. Did I miss anything?” Asks Dimitri. “What about the bond?” Questions Damon. “We aren’t going to say anything about it. I don’t want to cloud any judgements. People may think that I should get special or that I am getting it, and I’d prefer that that didn’t happen. There is also the possibility, I believe that by saying that there is any sort of bond that we might draw the attention of the kings.” I reason. The guys all look at each other and think of what I’ve said. “I agree with this assessment.” Says Nathan. “We have to keep a low profile and if a formed pack suddenly starts having a fifth member or talking about a bond with a female Fae, then the kings would investigate. If we put it as she is our apprentice, then there wouldn’t be as many questions” “So before we go, can you guys kind of tell me a bit about this world? I feel like I’m heading to the deep end of the pool without knowing how to swim and no floating devices.” I stated. “There are four main countries that have worked in harmony for the past thousand years. History tells us that five powerful people came together and formed a ruling government together. Each of the five were part of different magic types, fire, water, air, earth, and the fifth was spirit. They each had their own realm but they would all work together to protect each of the different realms.” Started Jacob. “This worked for some time as the ruling people were so close together, but something happened. Legend goes that the spirit Fae was fated to the air Fae but that the fire Fae had fallen in love with the spirit Fae. He was not happy that she was fated to the air Fae. He killed her, because if he couldn’t have her than no one could. He then went and destroyed the spirit Fae realm. Some fled and went into hiding but most were killed.” Jacob continued. “There was a bloody war that took place afterwards because the other three could not believe that he would kill the spirit Fae and many Fae died. The kings finally came together and formed an alliance that they have kept since then. They would each have their own realms and they wouldn’t have anything to do with the other realms besides trade. This worked for awhile but then the prophecy came. It was a century later that the prophecy was given to each of the kings.” He pauses. “There will be a spirit Fae, born of the red moon. She will be pure of heart and soul. Tests and trials await her and the path she chooses will seal her fate. She will be mates to all four elements. Her and her pack will bring forth the peace that is so craved.” Recited Damon. “The packs were created shortly after the prophecy. There was much contention when they decided to create the packs because they didn’t know how to proceed but it was thought best to build an academy in the old spirit realm and have packs train and form here.” Stated Jacob. “We didn’t know until today that the kings had alternative motives for setting up the packs and the academy.” Stated Nathan. “Why would the kings set up packs if they didn’t want the prophecy to come true?” I questioned. “If a pack were to suddenly form then they would have no knowledge of it until it was too late. This way they know all of the different packs and have a hand in their training. They know what to look for in the packs and that is why they are killing mates.” Says Dimitri. “We have a problem.” I suddenly started. “I just thought of the biggest issue we are going to have. What type of Fae am I?” We all just look as one another and think. We truly hadn’t thought of this issue. If I showed up as a specific Fae then I would be questioned about my affinity for the other Fae powers. This could be a complete and utter mess. “Lets just say that we don’t know since she lost her memories. That she has been too hurt to use any of her powers. This will also buy us time to figure out how to train her under the radar.” Said Damon. We all agree that this seems like the best plan and decide that it was time to go. As we head out of the room, I look back at it and realize that this will possibly be the last time that I have the guys to myself. “I want to thank each and every one of you for everything. Your support and patience with me has made this whole experience so much easier. Thank you!” I said in a low voice. “We are glad that we were able to meet you and that we could help, but this isn’t goodbye. We will be with you every step of the way.” Says Dimitri. I look at him thoughtfully and nod an acceptance of his words. I wish that I felt that way but sadly I truly don’t . We reach the car and my eyes widen. This is a car? What were they thinking? It looked like a horseless buggy from Harry Potter. Well they weren’t horseless in that movie but that’s what it looks like. I walk around it and look it over. Yep… it’s an old time carriage and no horse. I think to myself. “Who is going to pull this thing for 10 minutes?” I ask with a smirk as I know that this will rile Nathan up. I’m hoping that it will lighten the mood, but it doesn’t. “I would if you were in it,” says both Nathan and Dimitri. Damon just nods in agreement. “Would you guys stop flirting and being untrue to our mate? You know that she is out there and yet you carry on with Maya. I refuse to ride with you guys if you continue. I won’t be unfaithful to my mate.” Shouts Jacob. “That isn’t what we are doing. We are being friendly and teasing each other. You need to chill, man. We aren’t and wouldn’t be untrue to our mate and you know this.” Says an irritated Damon. “You need to stay away from me from now on.” Declared Jacob to me. I’m trying everything to not be hurt but it is so every hard. Why would he turn on me if he already knows that I want to break the temporary bond? I’ve had enough for one day, so I open the door to the weird car and find several bench like chairs. I make sure that there is seating for everyone and then take a back bench and lay down. I feel myself falling asleep as the guys get in. The carriage starts moving and the movement makes me even more sleepy. What will it be like at the academy? Will I be able to fit in and learn what I need to?
