I eventually head back down when the sun starts being unbearable. I suppose a swim will help with the burns, so I avoid the musically filled room and head straight to the nearby lake.
I am careful enough to remove my clothes along with the parchment paper still in my pocket before I dive in.
The first thing I notice is how cold the water is. It doesn’t really bother me but I wonder how the mermaids manage to dive into such freezing waters.
The coldness of the water soothes the burning pain and I try to relax a little, diving deep into the dark depths and staying under for a little while.
As I swim underwater, memories of moments past float around me. I try to think of only the happy memories but, of course, negative thoughts creep in and I can’t help but think of Soren.
