Chapter 5

Eva has been feeling despondent very often as of late, she hardly eats or drinks, she just stares at the ceiling, walls and thin air.

Jolie tries her best to make her eat and get active but her efforts only make little or no changes to Eva's down feeling.

It has been 2 weeks since the divorce has been finalized and Eva has not been the same ever since. She hardly goes out and just stays in bed all day.

Cater made sure the divorce proceedings and finalization happened in less than 3 weeks, Eva could not fight him as she gave up on the marriage the very day he brought in Victoria.

Both sides of the marriage had signed the papers and had nothing to fight for in the marriage, Eva was never going to stoop so low to fight Carter over the properties she helped him secure.

She had enough to take care of herself and some properties Daddy Gran left her was in her name, both parties were not going to fight over properties. They had no children to fight shared custody over even though this part of the divorce proceeding reminded Eva of her 2 miscarriages over the years.

Her take from a 4 year union was and the divorce finalization was the mansion she lived in with Carter years with, he would not take the house insisting he and Victoria move to a place of high standard among people of high standards.

Dr. Steve had called Jolie earlier today insisting on coming over to see her. Jolie had hoped this visit could brighten Eva's spirit a little.

Today she felt the need to visit the attic, she wanted to dispose of anything that reminded her of Carter. She had initially instructed Jolie to put everything that belonged to Carter in the attic, including their wedding pictures, gifts she got from him.

She asks the house help to assist Jolie to take everything that belonged to Carter out of the attic. She was ready to get rid of them today “Jolie!” “Yes ma’am.” “Bring everything out of the attic, I am ready to sort them out today.”

Everything was taken outside to the garden in the backyard. There were some old pictures, designs, books, clothes, a safe, a lot of junk too. As Eva stepped out to the garden she saw that sorting this out will take the whole day to complete.

“Jolie, ask the chef to prepare some snacks we can munch on for every one clearing these is going to take a while.” “Okay ma’am.” “Thank you.” Jolie walked back into the house hurriedly.

Jolie came back but with a guest this time around, Dr. Steve. “Hey Steve.” “Hey baby girl.” Eva and Dr. Steve hugged “How are you doing?” “I am okay, come sit.” she said, offering him a seat in the garden.

“Jolie please prepare.” “i am on it ma.” Jolie cuts Eva off respectfully knowing the task she was about to give her was to get a drink for the guest.

Dr Steve was served with some fruit plates and a bottle of water as per his request. “Now that formalities have been duly observed, let us get to the main discussions. Eva, how are you doing really?” Steve said with a serious face, you could tell he was not playing around no more.

“Well , I am taking it one day at a time, sometimes I am better and sometimes I am not. Sometimes I feel numb and sometimes broken. I am just trying to heal you know.”

“I felt terrible when I heard the news but then it is no use dwelling in the past we just have to move forward.”

“I hear you loud and clear, I mean just because Carter left me does not mean the end of my world even though I thought it was. He is out there exploring and expanding. Why should I be hiding and shrinking?”.

“I just have to focus on building myself up right now Steve.” “I totally agree but how do you want to go about that? Are you going to start designing again?”

“I do not know right now Steve, today's task is to expunge the past out of my life. As you can see I am cleaning everything that reminds me of him.” Eva said pointing to the heap of junks

“Tomorrow's task might be building, designing but for now I am not sure yet. And before you ask, the bookstore is not my entire future. It will keep me busy for now so I do not have to dwell in the past.”

“That is nice, I am glad you are feeling better than before. Jolie sounded worried when I called.” “I mean I will be fine, it will just take time.” “ Okay your royal highness, i have to leave shortly because of work but then the discussion i wanted to have with you last time was about Carter.”

“A colleague of mine who recognised him found out he was cheating with victoria on his last trip to paris. I wanted to inform you after confirming the rumor not knowing, Carter had his own plans.”

“Stevie, Carter is all in the past. I know you mean well but then it is no new news and I am done with anything involving him.” She knew going back to discuss Carter could break her new found confidence in moving on.

“Alright then, I just wanted to inform you. And I am glad you are okay and better. I have to go now but then I will be back for more fruit plates. Yours are unique.” Dr. Steve said jokingly.

“Oh, no need to see me off, I am no stranger okay. Carry on cleaning his ass off your carpet.” he said, hugging her to leave. He felt relieved to see her smile more, even when she was married to Carter she smiles less frequently.

“Jolie, she will be fine. She sounded better than you describe but keep me posted if there is anything I should know or anything I can help you out with.” “Alright, I will let you know.”

She felt a surge of relief and a boost in her confidence, she did not have to hide and shrink. It is time she found herself and passion again, she just has to start with cleaning the junks.

She saw an old design of a museum she made with“let me have that”, she points to an old architectural building design. Eva had begun to sort out the junks one after the other. Some were useful and some were not.

The building reminded her of her old passion and how much she loved to design, suddenly the spark of her former self started to ignite.

She could send this out to her friend Alice. ”Put this in the study. I will need to complete it.

The design was the last thing she ever did as her former self.

She needs to find herself again and she hopes completing the museum design could do just that.

Another task for the day was to complete her old design and the thought of doing that just gave her joy, she had missed the happiness that comes with creating masterpiece architectural design.

She quickly finished sorting out the junks and found 3 more of her old design with materials to complete the first one she saw.

“Take this to the study please and make sure the study is clean for me to work in.”

“Alright ma’am.” Jolie took the designs carefully into the mansion and up the stairs to the study. Eva has not been excited about doing anything of recent and she was determined to help her through this feeling of discoveries and self actualization.

Eva has finish sorting out the junks and cleared the attic, the useful things she came across was returned and the ones that were not would be thrown out to the trash.

She had gone down memory lane to understand the reason why she started designing this particular kind of museum. She remembered it was to preserve the heritage of cultural artifacts in the museum.

It was a billion dollar national project she was competing for but had to drop out of because of Carter who is no longer in her life. “I missed a great opportunity to please him and it led me nowhere.”

“I will just complete the work and send it to Alice, she could draw inspiration, and help her with her work.” Eva sat down to get to work. It will take hours but she was determined to finish the project.
