Chapter Two

*Kalama*

    I seemed to be floating in a black void. Ash was going crazy, her voice was loud and echoed through my head, making the headache I had worse. I winced at her yelling, "Open your eyes. He's here. Our mate is here." I frowned, the pain in my head intensified as she got louder. "Open your eyes! MATE! MATE!" I couldn't understand what she was saying, as the pain in my head seemed to explode, making me see stars behind my closed eyelids.

    "Ash, please. It hurts." Ash whined. I knew she wasn't meaning to hurt me, she was just excited. I tried to remember. I had watched Ash chase a rabbit and then coming to the spring and then...Ash was circled by three wolves. A dark brown, who's color reminded me of dark chocolate on her right and behind her, stood a grey, who's fur was wispy, giving off the effect of smoke rather than hair. Ash turned to the wolf that stood in front of her. He was hugh. His black coat shone blue in the sunlight and his eyes were a beautiful dark blue. I had gotten lost in those eyes, fallen into their depths and without thinking had pushed Ash to the side, shifting into human form. A mistake that could have costed me my life, I would stand no chance against one, let alone three full grown wolves. Then I had felt an intense heat and I felt my body go limb. As the blackness consumed me, I felt arms catch me, sending sparks across my skin. That was it, we had been on another packs land and they had caught us. This was death. I heard Ash snort.

    "We're not dead. Our mate has saved us." 

    "Mate? Evan is gone." Ash growled in disgust,

    "He was not our mate. Now, open your eyes." I felt someone next to me. Sparks lite up my skin, as a hand cupped my cheek, making my eyes flash open. I met the dark blue eyes of the black wolf, only now he was a man. His black hair was long around the ears and I found myself want to run my fingers through it. His dark blue eyes held the same intensity of his wolf and were filled with concern. A grey T-shirt was stretched across his broad shoulders and muscled chest and a pair of sweatpants hung off his lean waist. I was surprised at the wish of ripping the shirt off, running my hands along his, no doubt, well-muscled body, kissing and tasting my way up and down. Without thinking, I said, "Mine." His hand trailed down my neck, stopping at the soft spot between my neck and shoulder. The concern in his eyes changed to lust. Fear filled me and I regretfully pulled away. Evan had been the only one and he had brought nothing, but hurt, no doubt this man would too.

*Caspian*

    It was now well into the night. I had not moved from my chair next to the bathtub. A nurse had just left, after dumbing another bag of ice into the tub. The fever that rippled through her body had the cold water, hot in minutes. As the sun had started to set with no change in her condition, I was beginning to worry that she wouldn't wake. Someone had badly hurt her. Scars littered her perfect body. Anger filled me. "We'll find the person who did this." Bay said. Then, I saw her eyes flutter and she cried out in pain. I stood, cupping her cheek with my hand, sending sparks across my skin. Her eyes open, the brown-orange color was like flames and I fell into their warmth. She pulled her gaze away, letting it travel down my body and I could smell her arousal. Bay howled with longing and lust. Fear clouded the flames in her eyes and she pulled away. Bay whined. I knew she had smelled my own arousal and it had scared her. The anger filled me again. I would find the person responsible for hurting my Love like this and they would pay. I met her eyes, the fear dulled the brilliant brown-orange color, making my heart ache. I smiled, taking a step back. “It’s okay, Love. No one will hurt you here.” The fear in her eyes subsided and I saw her body relax, making me relax as well. I did not want my mate fearing her home. She shivered. I turned, grabbing a robe, and holding it out to her. She stood, water trailing down her cream-colored skin. I licked my bottom lip, holding back my desire to lick her dry. She looked at me, a knowing smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.

            She stepped out of the tub, her legs wobbled, and she slipped. I rushed forward, wrapping my arm around her waist. She tensed at the contact and sparks shot up my arm. I expected her to pull away, but instead, she relaxed into my grip and allowed me to help her out of the tub. I wrapped the robe around her and helped her to sit on my chair. “Thank you.” She spoke so softly, that had it not been for keen sense of hearing, I wouldn’t have it heard it all. Even so, the sound was like the sweetest of music and I couldn’t help but smile.

            “You’re more than welcome, Love. I’m Caspian, Alpha of the Green Gove Pack. I’m going to go get the doctor, okay.” She nodded and after looking into those flaming eyes, I turned walking back into the main hospital. Dr. Barker sat at his desk going through some paperwork, he turned, hearing me approach. “Our guest is awake.” I told him. I watched as relief shone in his eyes. It seemed that he had hadn’t been sure if she would wake either.

            “Very good. I’ll look her over real quick and…”

            “Will she have to stay here, or can I take her my room?”

            “As long as she checks out and is feeling up to it, I see no harm, but first, I must do my exam.” I nodded, following him back to the room. She still sat in the chair. Her eyes met mine, lust swirling in their flames. I sucked in a deep breath, trying to control myself. I stepped around Dr. Barker and walked over to her, placing a hand on her shoulder, enjoying the sparks from the contact.

            “This is Dr. Barker. He’s just going to make sure that you’re okay.” She nodded, leaning into my touch.

*Kalama*

            Caspian placed a hand on my shoulder, sending sparks up and down my body. “This is Dr. Barker, He’s just going to make sure that you’re okay.” I wasn’t sure why, but I felt better with this him by my side. “That’s because he is our mate.” Ash purred. I still wasn’t sure about this claim, but I wasn’t going to disagree. I had gone against Ash’s warnings once before and that had landed me chained to a bed for months. “He would never do anything to hurt us. He is our mate and genuinely loves us.” I didn’t reply, instead I allowed myself to relax into his touch. The doctor stepped forward. His brown hair was cut short to his head and his brown eyes were soft. He wore a white lab coat over a pair of jeans and a black shirt, that hung nicely on his well tone body. “Mine.” A soft growl came from next to me. I looked at Caspian, his dark blue eyes were angry. I had spent to much time looking at the doctor. I smiled, apologetically, leaning my head against his hard stomach and took a deep breath. The smell of fresh fallen rain wrapped around me, filling my sense, and relaxed me even more. He wrapped his arm around me, hugging me close. Reassured that I was his, he relaxed, but kept his firm hold me. I looked at the doctor, a knowing smile on his face.

            “Well, now that, that has been taken care of. Ms. I would like to do an exam. Just to make sure that the fever didn’t cause any lasting damage.” I nodded. “Can you tell us your name?”

“Kalama.” I said. Dr. Barker nodded in approval. He asked other questions, like how I got in the woods. I gave him a simple answer about how I had gotten lost and hoped he wouldn’t read into it much. He also ran several test, checking my heart and lungs, and also took several vials of blood. “Everything seems to be in working order.” Dr. Barker said. “There is one other thing I would like to ask.” I looked at him, fearing the worse.

*Caspian*

            What a beautiful name, Kalama, meaning fire. The name fit my Love perfectly, with her dark red hair and flaming eyes. Dr. Barker had asked questions, of which Kalama answered simply, however, something told me she wasn’t telling the whole truth and I wondered what she was hiding. Dr. Barker placed his stethoscope back around his neck. “Everything seems to be in working order.” I couldn’t help but smile, thankful that my Love was okay. “There is one thing I would like to ask.” I felt Kalama tense. “Why are you scared? I have never seen someone with so many.” It was a question that I had been wondering myself. Kalama hesitated,

            “I’m clumsy. Always falling.” she said. I knew it was lie. I looked at Dr. Barker, his look told me that he too knew she was lying but wouldn’t push it. I nodded, giving Kalama a gentle squeeze. My Love had been through something horrible, but she wasn’t ready to talk about it, I would respect her and be there when she was. Dr. Barker cleared his throat.

            “Very well. You pass the exam.”

            “Do I have to stay in the hospital, or can I go?”

            “I see know reason to keep you. However, I will run the blood samples, they may give us some answers to the fever.” Kalama nodded.

            “Thank you.” Dr. Barker nodded, turning to leave, closing the door behind him. I looked down into her eyes, lust and desire swirled in their flames, sparking my own desire. Bay howled in my head, pushing himself forward. He wanted to calm his mate. I pushed him back, causing him to growl.

            “MINE!”

            “i***t, can’t you see. Someone has hurt her. You, coming out is the last thing she needs right now. Be patient, you will have your mate soon enough.” Bay whined in reply. He knew I was right, but the need to calm his mate wasn’t something he could just turn off, though he did settle down. I focused again on her. “My Love, can you walk or do I need to carry you?” She smiled, making my insides melt.

            “I think I can manage.” She took my hand, using me as leverage to stand. Her legs wobbled and I felt her legs give. I easily caught her, hoisting her onto my arms. She was so light, as though I was holding air, not a woman. She wiggled, fighting my hold. I nestled my face into her neck, breathing in her burning ember and cherry sent.

            “Please Love. Let me help you.”
