On the day of reading the will of the father Kelly Velasco learns that he determined that all the goods he left would only go to her if she married common man of responsibility. She would have to find a husband until she turned eighteen or else she would have to marry her tutor Michael Barreto. Until then, all right, It would not be so difficult for a beautiful and rich girl to get a husband, the problem was that the father also left determined that and this husband would have to be approved by Michael. It starts then, an arduous task, because the lawyer Michael Barreto was not willing to give his protégé to anyone, or rather, to anyone.

Chapter 1 - Kelly Velasco
- I did not understand. Could the Lord read again this last part of the will? Joshua Velasco’s office was huge, but at that moment it seemed small for the four people who occupied that room. I felt squeezed between them. At the head of the table were my father’s two lawyers. Two plump, short gentlemen. They were twins. I wanted to laugh at their faces. They were so funny. They looked like each other’s shadow and it seems that even their breath was rhythmic. Beside them, quiet as a snake ready to take the boat was Michael Barreto, my father’s faithful squire and that until two minutes ago I considered a friend, almost a second father to me. I was sitting at the other head of the table, in the chair that I sat on until two weeks ago and where he was found dead after a massive heart attack. Certainly, on the other side of the heavy wooden door the other servants of the house, eagerly awaited the reading of the will of Judge Joshua Velasco. The lawyer holding the briefcase coughed a couple of times and then he took me seriously. - What did you not understand? Either he was an i***t or he considered me one. - I don’t understand, can you repeat everything please? He turned his eyes to the page in front of him. - I will reread it slowly without omitting a word. I crossed my hands on the table. - I thank. - "That if testament is my will and it will be fulfilled" - Very typical of my father, ordered, has to be done. The lawyer raised his head. - Don’t interrupt Miss Kelly! I raised my hands in peace. He continued. - "In my absence, before my dear and only daughter, Kelly Velasco turns 18, or has some sense in her head, things must be done the way I will explain here. All my assets can only go to her name when she marries a responsible man who won’t burn all my money. Until that happens I appoint Michael Barreto as your legitimate guardian and responsible for your assets." The lawyer took a breath and looked at me. - Continue... He breathed and went back to reading. - "If this marriage does not take place by the age of twenty-one, she must marry Michael. He is a person capable of managing a wealth of this size without prejudice to my daughter resolve to donate to street beggars" I looked at Michael. That bastard was laughing inside for sure. - "If in that time frame Michael falls in love with someone and gets married and he must adopt Kelly as his daughter and thus continue to watch over her well-being." If the idea of marrying him was ridiculous, to be adopted as a daughter was infinitely worse, especially if he married that horrible Monica. No f*****g way that woman was gonna be my stepmother. - "And to conclude, I say that I made this decision thinking only about the welfare of my daughter and as I know that she is able to arrange the first man who meets ahead and marry, just to annul this will I put just one more detail. The man who proposes must go through Michael’s evaluation. He’s the one who’s going to decide who should marry Kelly." The lawyer closed the case and looked up at me. - Is it clear now, miss? I looked at Michael who was batting his pen on the table looking as comfortable as if he was having a beer in a bar. - Is it clear to you, Michael? He laughed with the corner of his mouth. - Clear as day. I went back to the chair wanting to jump on his neck and strangle him. - You already knew about this will, didn’t you? He finally stared at me. - Yes. I knew it. - And why didn’t you tell me? - Because it is a will. Only read after the person dies. - But you are a direct beneficiary of this will, that is illegal! He laughed out loud. - Me? Beneficiary? What? For having inherited a boring girl like you to take care of? Don’t make me laugh Kelly Velasco! - I AM NOT BORING! Three pairs of eyes stared at me questioning my statement. - What are you looking at?! One of the older lawyers got up from his chair and coughed a little awkwardly. - Kelly, we understand you’re a little surprised by your father’s demands, but that’s necessary. You can’t manage the wealth he left for you alone. Good. He was right. - I don’t want to manage anything. I just want to live in peace. Michael finally got up and went around the table approaching me. - Kelly, calm down and let’s talk. I shot him with my eyes and walked away from him. Don’t come near me, you fake. He squeezed his lips and turned to the lawyer duo. - Álvaro, Altiere, please go. I’ll take care of the rest from now on. They were a bunch of devil’s lawyers. They were there to convict me and not defend me. How could my father make a will of that? What would I do to get rid of that crazy idea of his? Why would I marry Michael and not be adopted by him? Much worse. But my money was in his hands and that bastard looked at me almost with his arms crossed in front of me. I vaguely saw the two lawyers leave the room and found myself alone with that friend of the jaguar. He pointed the chair. - Sit down. Let’s finish this. I laughed cynically. - Start that subject, you mean it’s not? I sat down and crossed my arms willing not to cooperate. He did the same and took a few seconds to speak. - You need to collaborate Kelly. - Me? Collaborate? How? Marrying you? - I won’t let you destroy your father’s estate. I arched my eyebrow. - The estate is mine now, Michael. I’ll do whatever I want with it. He laughed. - That’s why his father did what he did. He knew his daughter. I took a deep breath, trying to calm down. - Okay. Okay. What do we do now? He shrugged his shoulders. - Nothing for now. Let’s do what your father said. I’m your tutor. I’ll take care of you. - And when to that ridiculous part of the marriage? I don’t want to marry you. He looked at me seriously. - Your father didn’t say you had to marry me. He said if you didn’t marry someone decent until you were 21, you’d marry me. - I don’t want to get married. I want to live my life, I’m only 17! - And a huge wealth that can not stop at the hands of any profiteer and believe me, many girls will appear. I pulled up my nose. - I will not marry an old man like you. He seemed surprised and laughed. - Me? Old? I’m 30 years old Kelly! - Is old. - We’ll figure it out, remember your father gave me the option to adopt you as a daughter. Since I’m old, I’ll do it. - Adopt me? And Monica will be my stepmother? He raised and supported his hands on the decided table. - You choose: either get a decent husband, marry me, or accept to be my adopted daughter. I stood up and imitated his gesture, facing him defiant. - None of them, Michael Barreto. I will turn your life into hell. I left and slammed the office door hard.
