Things Might Not Go As Planned

Alex was in so much of a hurry to get to her kid bro, Ander. It was Christmas day and why she could not come home to him last night was something that has kept her bothered. She can't tell why.
" I can't believe I left you all alone on Christmas Eve, Ander. I am so sorry, I will make it up to you"
She said as she approached her basement.
From outside, she could see that her door was locked, which means Ander was not home.
She wondered how come because he was home when she left yesterday.
She checked her purse and I did not see the spare key she carries around. She was getting frustrated and with no solution in mind. Her phone was dead which is unusual.
She was dead worried for him, Ander is her life and she does not know if she will survive if something happens to her kid bro. She can't fail her parents, not now.
She would wait a little longer and if she can't find him, she would begin her search for him.
The lady who had been watching her walked over to her.
"Merry Christmas, ma'am"
Alex smiled at her.
"Merry Christmas to you too"
"You seem to be lost?"
The lady asked further.
"No, I am not. I am surprised to find the door locked and my kid bro is not around. It's too early for him to be away".
She said and the lady stared at her for some time.
"Sorry, ma'am but the occupant of this apartment left here yesterday evening and has not returned since then and as for her kid brother, I have not seen him in a while. I am not sure if he is back from school yet so I don't understand what you mean?"
Alex was momentarily lost, she was really lost and she can't seem to assimilate what the lady just said.
The lady could not stand there any longer after she waited for Alex to make her understand and left Alex to sort herself out.
"People seem to be going crazy these days. Coming to claim someone's apartment, is that not craziness?"
She muttered to herself as she left Alex wondering what had gone wrong.

It was the day everyone in the heart of THE STATE, had been waiting for. All year preparations have to be for this day. The day the Christians believed to be the day the Savior was born in Nazareth. Christmas day has been the most celebrated day among Christians and this day can never be looked upon because it holds a lot of good luck. It's that day you have got to show love to at least a soul and it will be appreciated.
The history of Christmas celebrations in The state can be rated 10 as her citizens make this day a day to remember throughout the year.
Families get together and spend it with each other. Christmas in the real sense can't be overrated. So as many families were buzzing around to make today happen, it was not so in the Bleak Mansion.
The only celebration that could be held today will be the wedding which is to take place and that can't be called a celebration.
The first person to wake up from sleep at the Bleak mansion on this year's beautiful Christmas Morning has to be Luke. He has been restless throughout the night, maybe because he can't accept the fact that his former girlfriend will be wedded to his big bro or he has got something else up his sleeve.
He rushed down from his bed and went out of his room in lightning. He wants to make sure that Josh and Alex were not cuddling throughout the night or doing the other stuff.
He banged at Josh's door and Josh woke up immediately with a threatening look to murder whoever has dared to wake him up like this. This person must be out of his senses.
He gingerly got down from the floor to see Alex curled up in the same position she was as of yesterday night. He froze when he saw that there was no color in her skin. She was so pale like pale itself and Josh knows he will be in a deep mess if whoever is at the door found Alex lying on the cold floor looking almost dead. He scooped her up and nearly dropped her when his hands came in contact with her body because of how cold her body is.
There was no warmth on her skin, it was the same as a lifeless body and it dawned on him that she might have frozen to death.
How will he explain to his grandfather that the lady he was to get married to today had to freeze to death because of him? But it's not his fault entirely, was she tied to the cold floor that she could not stand up when the AC hit her, or she just continued lying down there to prove to him that she can't give in to him by coming to lie down on the bed? To him that's pure foolishness, not being sensible enough to know when to dwell in pride and when to save one's self. His grandfather would not see it this way, he just hopes that she is not entirely dead, today can't be ruined for him for another's foolishness.
Luke feels Josh was taking too long in getting his door, he banged again. Luke can't believe he is being this way. Josh and he used to be buddies until yesterday although Josh had advised him not to get married to miss Sahery. Josh made it clear to him to marry the one his heart is at peace with since he has got the wealth but he was so blinded by greed that he could not reason sensibly. Alex was everything Miss Sahery was not, she could have given him peace of mind in abundance but he chose wealth over happiness even when he was already wealthy.
He knocked again and Josh came back to reality. He quickly carried Alex to his bed and tucked her under the duvet. He messed his hair up and went to get the door. He frowned when he saw that it was Luke at the door and raised his brows.
"Luke, when did you start being the one to wake me up so early in the morning?"
He asked him coolly. Luke took in his appearance and feared that it might be what he was thinking. Let it not be that these two have gotten intimate already because he has never gone beyond kissing Alex, talk more of being into an intimate moment with her. She is a virgin and he knows. He did not want to rush her because of her phobia of s*x and that's one thing he regretted, he should have been the one to break her cherry now his brother has done that just in one night.
Josh was so messed up starting from his hair to how rumpled his pajamas is, there is no doubt in Luke's mind. This is a certainty for sure.
"I came to check on my girlfriend"
Luke said and Josh glared at him.
"Point of correction, Alex is my wife, not your girlfriend, get that into your skull. Don't go about telling everyone that cares to listen that Alex is your girlfriend. I will not find it funny with you. I believe I won't be warning you again." Josh warned his younger brother and made to close the door, "and again, I forgot to tell you that since the wedding came unexpectedly, you will have to play my best man."
Josh said and shut the door finally then took a deep breath.
Luke who stood at the door clenched his fist, he couldn't believe what he heard. He is suddenly being the best man to his brother. Like he would stand there and watch them exchange vows. Impossible.
Standing at his brother's doorstep would not help him, there is something more for him to do.
He stared hard at the door knowing full well that his girlfriend is inside that room.
He left almost immediately.
Josh took in another breath, that was so close.
He rushed to his bed and opened the duvet and checked Alex's pulse, there was a faint life out of her which means if she is taken to the hospital she might live. The only person who he could talk to is his grandfather, he is sure he will understand.
But then there is some good in what happened, if Alex is hospitalized then there is a possibility that the wedding will be canceled and that means one more free day for him and the unexpected might happen and maybe, there will be no wedding at all.
But wait! What will Luke think of him? Nah, there has to be a wedding even if it is not today.
