Graduation day.
The news from the doctor's hit Alex and I like a truck. Gina, being her happy self, was quite elated that I would be having two babies, instead of one. I, on the other hand, started hyperventilating - how did Gina expect me to look after two, when I didn't think I could even look after one baby?
Alexander was so shocked, he didn't say anything until we approached my house. However, all he said was 'I love you' and 'I'll see you later', which wasn't anything to do with what I wanted him to say.
Anyway, now at school, I had to deal with the teachers forcing us to write speeches all day, waiting for graduation after school. I didn't understand why we graduated like that, but apparently we did.
Right now, since the teachers decided to give seniors a free period before the graduation ceremony began, Daisy and I were wandering the halls, with my mind unable to divert to anything but Alex. As usual, he was hanging out with Andy and Zayn. According to him also, he needed to stay with his two friends, otherwise he was scared he may punch the next person to talk about my pregnancy.
"I can't believe we're graduating in a few hours. High school went by so quickly!" Daisy gushed, looking around. "Is it weird that I'll kind of miss this place?"
Laughing, I nodded. "Yes! This place is literally the definition of hell."
Despite the fact this place was literal torture, I guess I would miss how easy it was to meet up with Daisy and Alex. Especially since Alex still didn't pick a college, despite the lateness, and Daisy probably picked one like four hours away.
All of a sudden, Daisy's phone received a text. As she opened it, her eyebrows furrowed.
"What's the matter?" I asked her, realising the dampness of her mood.
The facial expression on her face slightly worried me. This was likely due to the fact she looked like she was worried for me.
"Oh, it's just people spreading rumours about you, again. Don't worry, I don't listen to them." Daisy informed me.
"What rumours?" I narrowed my eyes.
I would stab somebody if another rumour was spread about me. This wouldn't be like the other rumours, where I found out directly from people, but more like I was getting told.
Daisy showed me her phone. "That you're pregnant,"
My heart started racing. Were people still spreading this? I couldn't let people know that the rumour was actually the truth, however, considering it was the last day of my entire high school experience, I decided to perhaps share the truth to Daisy-
"It's actually true, Daisy." I whispered.
-but silently.
Daisy must have some super hearing lately, since she managed to catch what I said.
"What?" The whole hall managed to hear her outburst; everybody turned their heads to see what the commotion was about.
The small chatter in the hall faded. The most mortifying thing was that as she shouted, Alex - along with his posse - came into my sight.
It didn't stop there; Alex sent me a confused look, mentally asking for the reason to her loud input.
Though, after the initial pause of moment, the hall went back to the way it was before. Alexander began walking towards me. Andy disappeared, but Zayn remained behind him.
Quickly turning to spare a look at Daisy, I shot her a look that, hopefully, translated to: 'please don't embarrass me'.
"Hey, Kelsie," he pecked my cheek, considering the fact enough attention was brought upon me. "Daisy.. what was that about?"
Noticing Zayn, Daisy leaned closer to mutter something I presume only Alexander and I heard. "Kelsie's pregnant?"
Alex choked - something I didn't think I'd see from him - as he switched his gaze between Daisy and I.
"Daisy knows, again?" Alexander asked me.
Daisy gasped. "So it is true! Oh gosh, are you the baby daddy?"
Both mine and Alex's eyes widened as we realised what she said. However, he seemed to snap out of that surprise quicker, since he was the one that gave her an answer; a small nod.
Daisy squealed, catching the attention of the daydreaming Zayn. He seemed unaware of what we were talking about, which was a good thing; his headphones are something in which I have to praise later.
"So, you two are going to be having a baby together? Oh, this is so cute! What are you planning to name it?"
Before Alex and I had to endure the pain of explaining the complication of our relationship and this.. pregnancy, the principal called for the attention of every senior - ultimately ending the conversation.
"Could every senior please gather their belongings and gather in the hall? The graduation ceremony is about to begin."
It was time.
**
Apparently, every parent was notified and already in the hall. So, after every student received their diploma, I went to see Gina and my dad.
"Ah, I'm so proud of you, sweetie! You passed five subjects!" Gina congratulated me as she read my results.
I smiled at her, remembering how much I was stressing about these exams in May. It was so weird how long ago that seemed - considering the relationship Alex and I began only started in June, a month after.
"Thank you, mum." I decided to start calling Gina mum, since that was what she became to me.
From the stories my father told me about my mum when I was little, I assume she would have been a nice parent figure to have. However, Gina was a wonderful woman, and - regardless of whether she was my real mum or not, she was still in my life.
Alright, enough, I just graduated and deserve to think about that.
"Would you like to do some college courses, like everyone else? Because Gina found a college that does online lessons for those unable to attend." My dad decided to bring up.
I looked between my parents, my mood brightening. Some people would call me a freak for being excited in being able to do college. However, I wanted to attend college ever since I started freshman year.
"Oh, Cory. Let's not get ahead of ourselves; let's let Kelsie enjoy graduation, first." Gina told my dad, a smile radiating her facial features.
My dad and Gina then erupted into a small talk which I knew I wasn't a part of, so I slowly backed away from them.
Then, I felt somebody tap on my shoulder. Twisting around, I saw Alexander standing there, a nervous expression on his face.
"Hey, Kelsie. Come on, follow me - this won't take long."
Confused, I let him guide me through the crowd of people. "Alexander, where are you taking me?"
Stopping to answer, he turned around to face me, his eyes glistening. "My parents want to meet you. You see, we were talking about college," I guess I wasn't the only one getting told about college. "And I told them I wanted to attend the local community college. My parents asked me why I was turning down UCLA... I may or may not have accidentally told them the real reason I didn't want to go."
I nodded, and for a split second I didn't realise how that was relevant. Until I remembered the very first time I told him I was pregnant; the first conversation we had that day was on college, and how I didn't want him to go.
"You told them I'm pregnant?" I whisper-yelled at him.
He threw his hands up in surrender. "Accidentally, I swear! My dad looked like he wanted to kill me, when my mum asked me if I can properly introduce you to them. Honestly, I don't even know how my dad hasn't decapitated me yet. His face was that deadly."
Rolling my eyes, I started walking beside him as he turned around and led me to where his parents presumably are. "I assume. They just found out their youngest son knocked up a girl at seventeen through a conversation on college."
Alex gave me a grin. "I found out the same way."
I rolled my eyes, smiling slightly. "Whatever. At least I told you,"
It was still weird in talking to him like this. Sure it was a while since we stopped hating each other, but after years of putting all my hatred towards him, it still surprised me how comfortable we are.
When I caught sight of a black-haired woman, standing next to a brunette man, my breath hitched. It was like I knew they were his parents.
"There they are. My mum dyed her hair, which is why she may have been unrecognisable at first." Alexander explained, the nervousness clear in his voice.
As we moved towards them, the man's head turned, ultimately facing us.
"This is the Kelsie I was talking about." Alex coughed, his mother turning her head when she realised we were there.
A hint of recognition washed over her face. "I've seen you before."
Awkwardly, I nodded, feeling myself sweating in sheer nervousness.
Shit - they were far more intimidating than I originally thought they'd be. Obviously, I wasn't stupid, and didn't think all parents were as lenient as my parents, or as laid-back as Daisy's mum, but they seemed strict. Almost like they owned a business and had to keep a straight face at all times.
"Maybe, with her being my girlfriend and all." Alex managed to swoop in and save me from another awkward conversation.
I think I've had enough awkwardness from high school to last for a lifetime.
"So, you must be the girl that is carrying my grandchild." His dad turned to look at me.
If I was drinking something, I probably would have spat it out. Alex looked shocked, and like he wanted to crawl into a hole, and honestly - I felt the same way.
"Grandchildren. She's having twins, remember?" His mother informed him.
Who knew that the time I met my first real boyfriend's parents would be due to the fact I'm carrying their son's babies.
"Right. Well, I don't know you, so I'm not going to judge. However, you both should know I am far than OK with this." He turned to Alexander, "before the baby- sorry, babies are born, I expect you out of the house. As a father, it brings several responsibilities, including your own place. I also expect both of you to be involved. God help me if any of you leave one parent to care for my grandchildren."
His face was stern, and I wondered whether or not Alexander's dad considered joining the military. Alex and I both nodded, probably out of the fear that if we didn't respond, his dad would explode.
And, honestly, I've never been so scared in my life.
