Chapter 03
William Delaford
As soon as the annoying woman left, my phone rang, and I answered it in irritation when I saw the recipient's name.
"Liam—"
"Why are you calling me again? I thought I told you that if you want to say something, just say it to my secretary."
"But, babe—"
"Stop calling me that because, in case you forget, we are divorced, Ally. As far as I know, I already settled all your demands, so you should have quietly left my world." I ended the call without waiting for her response and threw my phone on the table.
I was in an arranged marriage for six months because my parents forced me to. Ally was the only daughter of their close friend, and they expected us to develop feelings for each other, but obviously, it didn't work out.
Ally was a spoiled woman, and she always gets what she wants, including men. I ended the marriage with her after a year because she's simply not the type of woman I want. I just want a child, more than a commitment with any woman. Most of the women I have been with are whiny, demanding, and talkative. They just be after me because of my money. But I have a priority, and that is my business. I have little to no time to even date anyone, and if it's only an itch I want to relieve, I just ask Nath to hire someone to spend the night with, and other than that, women are no use to me.
I am turning thirty this year, so I think it's time to have an heir who will inherit everything I'm working hard for, and I found the one who can give me just that.
I think out of all the women, she's the most qualified because I like her personality. She's the kind of woman who's not after your money and, well, a little smart. Not like my ex-wife, who just wants s*x.
"Sir?"
I was snapped out of my thoughts when my door opened and Nath peeked in.
"Yes?"
Only then did I see that she looked scared and nervous? "Sir, it's Miss Martin."
My eyes squinted at the mention of her name. "What about her?"
"She collapsed, sir, and I couldn't ask anyone for help. Can you please help me take her to the hospital, sir?" She reluctantly asked, obviously not wanting to but having no other choice.
"HOW IS SHE?" I asked our family doctor that I call to check on the woman who was still out of it while lying on my bed.
I would go out of my way to take her to the hospital, so I instead called him to the hotel.
Tom turned to me. "She's fine. Maybe she fainted because of too much stress. I see nothing wrong in her vitals as they are all normal," he told me, and I was a little relieved.
I glanced at the pale and unconscious woman. "Good. So, she'll be fine once she wakes up, right?"
"Yes, but I'll still take some of her blood to test if there is still anything wrong. For now, let her rest and just wait for her to wake up."
The doctor left, and I remained standing there while looking over the woman. She seems perfectly fine to me. A little pale and thin, perhaps, but fine. Maybe it's because of what happened earlier that she became like this.
I let out a chuckle, and Nath turned to me with a confused look on her face, so I straightened out my posture.
"You may go home now, Miss Sanders. I'll look after her."
Nath cleared her throat, looking hesitant. "Are you sure, sir? Can you accompany her outside?"
"Why? Is she handicapped? Does she need assistance to leave the building?" I asked in sarcasm.
She looked away and shook her head. "No, sir. It's just that. I noticed she was nervous earlier, and I just thought that... it's because of you."
I raised an eyebrow at that. "Just go home, Miss Sanders." I dismissed her.
"Okay, sir. See you tomorrow." She threw one last look at the woman before leaving.
I looked at my watch and saw that it was past seven. Usually, at this time, I have some free time to do whatever. I blew out a breath and watched the unconscious woman. It looked like she wouldn't wake up anytime soon, so I decided to leave the room and go straight to the dining area, where my dinner was already prepared.
I usually cook my own dinner because I'm always alone in the penthouse, but if I don't have time, I just ask the chef to cook for me.
I have a house of my own, but I only ever go there when it's the weekend. It's a hassle to go back and forth from there to the office because of traffic, and every minute is important to me.
I'm living in solitude because my family lives elsewhere. And being an only child didn't help because all of our family business relies on me.
"Hmm..." I hummed when I suddenly thought of the woman.
She isn't my type, and she's not that beautiful, but she has her own characteristics, so she'll do.
When I was done eating, I went for a smoke on the balcony. I felt the cold breeze hitting my skin as well as endless thoughts filling my mind. When I finished a stick, I decided to go back. I couldn't let her stay here alone with me. In my bed. Who knows what can happen?
I opened the door using my fingerprint and slowly opened the door. To my surprise, I didn't see her on my bed. I frowned and checked the bathroom, but there was no sign that someone had used it. I checked the CCTV using my tablet, and turned it off when I confirmed my suspicion.
She left.
