The wind hit my face. I could smell the salt in the air. The sun was magnanimous and I never felt more incredibly alive as I did in that very moment. The yacht moved forward and Camilo and I were at sea. I couldn't believe how well he navigated the thing. When I asked him about it he just said that it was like riding a jet-ski.
"Cool," I said.
"Hey, do you wanna listen to some music?" Camilo asked me.
"Yeah," I replied. Camilo turned on the music. We were listening to Tego Calderon, regueaton as usual. I sat at the seat and enjoyed the wind on my face. Sometimes drops of water splashed on me.
"Hey!" I complained, but Camilo laughed.
"That's how it is," Camilo said. Camilo continued to navigate for like an hour. Then, he made a stop.
"Hey, why are we stopping here?" I asked him.
"We have to be careful with the gas. I don't have a lot of money for it," Camilo said.
"Oh," I replied. Camilo stared into my eyes and then his sight moved to my lips. I knew what this meant. We were going to make out. I thought we were going to dance a little, but apparently, that wasn't part of the plan or at least not for Camilo. I remained still. Camilo neared my mouth and touched it with his thumb. I closed my eyes. Then he pressed his lips on mine. We were kissing and it was supposed to feel good, but I didn't like the scent of cigarettes in his mouth. I pushed him slowly away.
"Camilo, you smoked," I complained. He knew I didn't like that. I used to smoke, but I had recently left it.
"What? No, I didn't," he said shaking his head and tried to kiss me again, but I pulled back.
"I said I don't like that," I repeated. He frowned annoyed. He grabbed my shoulders and then pushed me to the floor of the yacht.
"You b***h!" He screamed annoyed.
"What the f**k is the matter with you?" I asked annoyed too.
"What's the matter with me? I'll tell you what the f**k is the matter with me," he said and then he began to take off the buttons of his pants and unzip his zipper.
"Camilo!" I shouted. I was scared and immediately sat up and crawled backward.
"Oh, f**k no," he said and he tossed himself on top of me.
"What are you doing?" I shouted struggling to get him off me. He grabbed my hands as I tried to push him off. He placed my hands together and pinned me down.
"Camilo, por Dios. What the f**k?" I yelled.
"You know you want this. Don't pretend you don't," Camilo said.
"You're going to r**e me on my birthday? Is that what you're gift to me?" I asked. I didn't know if he was ignoring me flat out or if he couldn't listen to me. Here in the island we have a saying. When a man goes totally insane for a woman we say "se le metio el diablo a ese hombre" which means that the devil entered that man. Maybe that's what was happening to him as I tried to get him off me without avail. I didn't want to hurt him, but he would not enter in reason. I began to kick him.
"Stop, f*****g stop," Camilo said, but I didn't. Then he slapped me hard on the face. It was so hard that it stung my face. I couldn't kick anymore. He pulled my pants and panties off. He was about to penetrate me when the boat suddenly rocked with harshness.
"What the f**k was that?" He said. He got up immediately and put his pants and underwear on. I pulled my panties and jeans up, but I remained on the floor rubbing my face and crying. I was so afraid I couldn't even talk.
"Shut the f**k up," Camilo said. He turned off the music and put on the radio. Without warning, it started to rain, not drizzle, but seriously rain, and the wind was no longer a breeze, it became a furious blow. The boat wouldn't stop rocking from side to side. I slid from one side to the boat onto the other and hit my head, my face and my legs. As if I wasn't hurt enough, my body was throbbing and I tried to get up, but couldn't.
"Karina, grab on to something. f**k, there's a storm and it's right on us," I heard Camilo said, but I couldn't. The only thing I could do was rub myself on the face. Then the boat rocked back and forth. As soon as I slid down I tried to stand on the edge, but then in one swoop, I was taken by the sea.
"Karina!" Yelled Camilo. He ran to me and at the same time tried to make balance, but the boat's floor was wet and slippery. Camilo slid and immediately reached the edge of the boat where I was still trying to hold on to dear life.
"Karina," he said and extended his hand at me. The boat rocked up and down. I tried to grab Camilo's hand, but I could hardly see him with all of the water that was falling on my eyes. I felt his fingers, but then the boat violently rocked down and a current pulled me down. As soon as I could, I tried to swim back up, but I didn't know how to swim, so when my body finally did go up, floating as it should, I hit my head hard on the boat and after that I was unconscious. I closed my eyes and everything went black.
