Settling In

1084 Words
As the four hesitantly walked on the moss-infected, cobblestone path,  Psyche knocks on the door. As soon as she knocked, the door fell down with a bang, waking up Sunny. The little pup does a cute little yawn, showing her pointed teeth before licking her own nose and licking Psyche's arm. Psyche then gives the little Shih Tzu a headpat before taking a step in to see the interior. The entire place looked like it came from a film maker's house set from the 1980s: The floors were made of dark reddish wood, or maybe it was just the wax that gave it a nice rustic gleam, which went with the light caramel walls. Right at their left was a dusty, dark orange couch. One of those old ones with the elegant curvatures leading up to the middle and with those cinnamon roll-shaped armrests. in front of that was a quaint-looking living room, with a knit style, dark green carpet, a window left of the couch, a brown, box-type TV, and a small wall that blocks a part of the living room from the dining room. As the four walked inside, they saw that to their right was a wooden staircase leading up to the rooms. The three guys look at each other as if they were waiting for any one of them to draw their weapons. While Psyche walked forward to the kitchen holding Sunny close to her chest like a stuffed animal, the three squeezed themselves into the staircase, trying to shoulder their way through. Bragi squeezed his way through and sprinted up, while Rose followed and Loki sighed as he followed. Psyche walked into the other side of the room and looked around the house she's gonna be living in for the next 4 years or so. To her left was a crude-looking light brown circular table with a glass Lazy Susan in the middle. Around it were six wooden chairs, ornately crafted with leather cushions on the backrests and seats. At the right was a white refrigerator. The really old ones that were curved on the corners and had metal hinge doors. Psyche flinched when sparks flew from the refrigerator's back, and so did Sunny as it fell on the floor. Thepup atarted barking once the wood started to sizzle, so Psyche stomped on the sizzling part, extinguishing a soon-to-be fire. Beside the refrigerator was the kitchen, with cupboards that lined the ceiling, a knob-type sink that looked like it just had the case of oil stains. In front of Psyche was the back door, which led to a brown grass backyard with another crooked dead tree. The only thing that illumiunated the house were disk shaped flourescent lights that glowed above the kitchen, the dining table and the living room. Psyche took it all in as she walked back to the entrance, lifting up the door to close the front. This is where she'll be staying for the next four years of her life, and perhaps, another four years if she decides to go to college here. The house may look like a home where murder was commonplace, but it just added to the charm, like being on the set of The Conjuring.  She walked up the staircase to see a hallway with five doors: three on the left and two on the right, with a window right at the end of the hallway. in the middle of the hallway was Rose, Bragi and Loki, sitting on the floor, playing rock-paper-scissors. Rose looks up and beams. Rose: Nice, you're here.  We placed your bags inside that room for the time being.  He points to the door on the right, nearest to the staircase. Psyche puts her hands in her hoodie pockets as she sat down with them. Psyche: I'm guessing you guys are debating on who's gonna get first pick of the rooms? Bragi nods. Bragi: Yup. These are just practice rounds. You ready? Psyche gives them a small smile. Psyche: Okay. Let's do this! Loki scoots aside to give her some space as they got ready to play. But before they could, Psyche looked at them and asked. Psyche: Why are we doing this again? Loki: To determine who gets first pick. Psyche: Yeah, I know that, but, which ones do you guys want? Because it's all fine with me. I don't really care. Only Bragi pointed at the middle door on the left, while Rose and Loki both pointed at the door closest to the stairs. Psyche shrugs as she took a peek at her room: a light purple walled room illuminated by a disk-shaped flourescent light,  with a twin sized bedat the left corner, a small window on the right, and a small desk at the left side of the bed, complete with a mirror, drawers on both sides and a wooden swivel chair that had a dark red cushion on the armrests, seat and backrest. Right at the left side of the door were her luggages, unopened. She lets go of Sunny and the pup started scampering around the room with an apparent smile on her face. Psyche looks back and sits back down. Psyche: Yeah, I'm good. And-oh. Rose and Loki were already in some sort of speed rock-paper-scissors competition, with Bragi scoring three for Loki and two for Rose, with most of the matches being ties. Psyche sits beside Bragi, intrigued. Psyche: Looks like they're gonna be going at it for a while. Bragi: Yup. Psyche goes in between them and holds her hands up to signal them to stop. Rose and Loki shot up. Loki: Dammit! I was gonna smoke this guy! Rose shuts him up by pressing his finger on his lips. Rose: Atatatatatat! Go on. Psyche pulls out a copper coin from her pocket. Psyche: Who wants to call it? Rose: Heads! Loki: DAMMIT! Psyche flicks the coin into the air. Loki's eyes follow the coin while Rose leaned on the wall. She catches the coin and takes a look. Psyche: Tails. Loki shoots his hands up, showing dominance. Loki: YEEEES!!!! EAT IT, ROSE!!! I got the stiarcase room! YEEEEEEESSSSS!!!!! Rose gets up and shrugs. Rose: Alright then. The room's yours, Loki. I'll head to my room if anyone needs me.  Bragi: Ditto. Psyche: Alright. So, we'll meet up for dinner? Rose: Yeah. As they all left, Loki looked around to see everyone was gone while he gloated. Loki: YEEEEEEEE-oh, right. He scrambles to his room and shuts the door.
