Psyche, Phone Home

899 Words
Time flies as the four of them unpacked in their separate rooms. Rose adjusts his black leather heavy bag, trying to hook it up the ceiling. Bragi was taping a bunch of band posters up his walls and Loki started to stack all his books around his bed. While Psyche was staring at her cellphone, trying to figure out what to say, she almost jumped when a knock on the door broke her train of thought. Psyche: It's open! The door swung open and Rose gave her a short wave before he leaned on the side of her door. Sunny was on the bed, curled up in a sleeping position, with her tail twitching around a bit as she saw Rose.  Rose: So, Bragi's gonna order some food from Ukemochi Bento. Do you want anything? Psyche smiled a bit. Psyche: Yeah, um, I'll get the one with Takoyaki. Rose: Got it. He turns around and shouts. Rose: YO BRAGI! SHE WANTS THE ONE WITH TAKOYAKI!! Bragi responds. Bragi: ALRIGHT!!! He then turns to her, returning to his normal voice. Rose: Anything else? Psyche: Nah, thanks. I'm good. Rose: Alright. See ya. Rose closes the door as Psyche pulled out her phone and started texting her mom. As she texted, Sunny got up, jumped out of the bed, and onto Psyche's lap. She looked up with those cute wide eyes, as if to say: I'm cute. And I demand headpats and constant stroking.  Psyche chuckled a bit and started stroking the pup's fur from her head to the tip of her tail as she texted with one hand. Hey Mom. Sorry, I couldn't text you earlier. There was a little problem involving some rabid gryphons and a giant dog on the basketball court, but it is alright now. I met some new friends along the way and now, they're my roommates. They're...interesting, I think you'll like them once you get to know them. We're about to eat, so I better get going now. I just wanted to let you know that I'm fine, I'm safe and I think I'm gonna like it here. Love you. Psyche pressed send, placed her phone inside the left drawer, and walked down the stairs to see all the lights off, with Rose, Loki, and Bragi on the couch, watching anime in front of the TV in the middle of the living room. Of course, the anime was in black and white. None of them actually seemed invested, but hey, it's better than no TV at all. Plus, it's some really old stuff, so it looked interesting to watch. Rose looked back and grinned. Rose: Cmon, we saved you a spot, prom queen.  He said as he pats the left corner side of the couch. Psyche smiled as she goes down the stairs and sits beside Rose, while Sunny ran down the stairs and sat on her lap. She looked at what everyone else was having: Rose had five pieces of California rolls, all in one black, 'Dr. Dre Pill' looking container. Loki was munching on a red box with a cup of rice and glazed honey chicken. Bragi went for a whole platter of sushi. Everyone had a  Psyche: In no way, am I ever gonna run for prom queen. Loki looks over. Loki: Why not? Psyche did the 'meh' sign: a flat hand, shaking. Psyche: I don't like the attention. Bragi nodded. Bragi: Yeah. Besides, prom queen's NEVER survive horror movies. Psyche: Right?! If ever, they're the first ones to be killed. Bragi offers her a fistbump, which Psyche obliges with something more of a fist tap. Rose nudges her with his elbow. Psyche turns and he shows her Takoyaki bento box: a smooth red plastic box that had two black chopsticks clamped on the front. Rose: Don't worry about the money. It's on the house for tonight. Psyche: I can pay you back next month... Rose: Fine by me. No rush here. Bragi: Yeah, we got your back. He said while his mouth was stuffed with rice and a yellow-colored substance that appears to be cheese. Rose: As long, as we all pitch in here. The whole place is a mess. They all looked around to see that the house wasa a lot mustier than when they got here. I guess the lights really show a lot of it now. Loki got up and saw his sweaterjacket already caught a lot of dust, showing a Loki-shaped imprint on the couch.    Loki: Soooo, fix it tomorrow? Everyone: Yup! As they all kept eating while watching black and white anime with no subtitles whatsoever, Psyche opened her bento box to see rows of steaming hot takoyaki, glazed on top. She took in the savory scent and dug in with her chopsticks. Yeah, this first day wasn't ideal, and she got an orientation she never would've imagined, but as she took in that first bite and looked at her friends she thought: Hey, it's just the start, and I still got a whole four years. I think I'm gonna make it. She finally relaxed her back on the couch, enjoying a night with her new friends. Not much could be said about what can happen tomorrow, all she can do right now, is enjoy this brief time of peace, eating Japanese to-go food, and watching anime that has never aired since the 1950s. The End
