Mother
Rose watched the doctor walk from her Mother’s hospital room to the nurse outside. She clutched her book bag and looked down at her white shoes.
The air was thick with tension as she tried to listen to what Doctor Williams was telling the nurse.
“Angela isn’t doing too well” is all she could make out.
Angela was her mother, she had been in and out of the hospital for months for Cancer Treatment and complications.
“f**k” rose whispered as the her warm tears began to pour over her checks and down to her book bag.
She could hear Doctor Williams call out to her, but she didn’t move.
She could hear his rubber shoes walk quickly on the tile floor over to her. “Rose, always a pleasure to see you. How is school? Angela says you’re a semester from graduating Hallow University”
Rose keeps her head down, “If I make it through this semester, it’s getting harder to study and go to classes”
The silence between her and to doctor made it nauseating for Rose
“Rose, I came to give you an update about your mother, and then you can go in and see her.” Doctor Williams was stern, and direct. “Her cancer is no longer responding to radiation, and if we operate, we put her life in more risk.”
Doctor Williams continues to talk, but I wasn’t listening. “Hospice, 1-3 months, start making arrangements”
Rose took a deep breath and looked Doctor Williams in the eyes.
Her grey eyes locking with his, she watched as his stern face turned to worry. She watched as his deep brown eyes slowly traced over her face across her naturally pale skin and pink lips.
She sighs, she needed to run away from his gaze, but his look made her heart burn.
Doctor Williams sat down next to her and placed a hand on her shoulder. “Rose, your mother is waiting for you”
