Chapter 1
"Mom! Why do you have to be so unfair?" I yell through tears as I storm out of the front door. She just refuses to understand how much I hate my school. I know that you are probably already judging me. You are probably assuming that I am lazy, wrong! I work part time while attending school. You probably think that I am a bad student, wrong! I am an excellent student with A+ grades and a 4.0 GPA. I enjoy learning. I think education is very important. I love feeding my brain with knowledge, and I spend most of my free time doing just that. So, what is my issue? To put it bluntly, I am more mature than most of the average people that are my age, I am an introvert, and I just want to finish my few remaining credits and go to college. My mom thinks that all the extra events are important, like prom, farewell, homecoming, graduation, and wants me to participate in them. I am her youngest, I have one older sister, Elianna 19, and two older brothers, Jason 21, Jonathan 23. She wants me to finish high school with participating in all activities just like they did. It seems like I am not going to win this battle. It is the beginning of the last week of September, so I will just have to power through. As I wipe my tears and approach my house from my walk around the neighborhood, an unfamiliar voice suddenly calls out to me, "Excuse me, I am sorry to bother you. I was visiting my friend across the street and I noticed that you were upset. Are you ok?" I look up and can't believe my eyes. I realize that I am no longer breathing. But, I somehow manage to find the air to say, "I will be, thank you." The wind blew, and I couldn't help but to inhaled his scent. Everything about him is intoxicating me all at once, and I am incapacitated. It seems like time has stopped. I try to continue walking to my house, but my legs are too heavy to move. Then, he replies, "I have seen you a few times before when I come visit my friend. I wanted to speak to you on a couple of those occasions, but you always seem busy. I am not sure what's going on, and I am not trying to pry, but we can talk about it or not, and talk about something else if you want to." He makes me so nervous, but how can I resist the opportunity to soak up more of this awesomeness in front of me? I reply, "Ok, well, um, it's no big issue. Just a misunderstanding between my mom and I about me wanting to finish high school in a nontraditional way. I just want to go to college. I am over high school, and she wants me to finish and participate in all senior year activities. But, enough about that. My name is Ariyanna. What's yours?" The sexy mysterious guy smiles and replies, "Eric, and it is a pleasure to finally meet you. You have a beautiful name that matches your beauty." I feel myself blushing as I reply, "Thank you, you are not bad either. Would you like to join me on my porch?" His eyes sparkle as he replies, "Yes, I was hoping that you would ask." We sat on my porch and talked for the rest of the evening, getting to know each other. We talked about everything and nothing until it was dark. "Well, it's getting late. Maybe we could talk more tomorrow?" I ask, knowing I have to prepare for the week ahead as the weekend is coming to a close. "Absolutely!" he replied. We exchanged numbers, and I watched him as he walked towards the new looking black BMW suv that I had seen several times parked on my street. Hmmm, he told me that he is only 18, first year in college, and works for the city part time. Hopefully, he is legit because I don't have time for bad boys. I dreamed of him standing in front of me all night. He seemed to be about 5'9, dark skinned, slim with a muscular build, full beard, close hair cut, and FINE! I know I had to be smiling in my sleep all night! I am not sure what specifically I did to deserve the grace of his presence in my path today, but I sincerely thank the universe for this chocolate treat that I received. I am happy that he approached me because if I saw him first, I would not have had the guts to approach him. I would have probably tried to avoid him instead and secretly admire him from a distance. I am too shy for confrontation. *** So, Ariyanna is her name. I can finally put a name to this beauty that I have had my eye on for a while. She is about 5'5, medium brown skinned, long medium brown colored locs that she styles differently, slim but perfectly curvy in all the right places. Her beauty is not the only thing that got my attention. Every time I see her walking around the neighborhood, coming and going, or sitting on her porch, she is always either reading or listening to what appears to be something educational. It is refreshing and a big turn on for me to see a beautiful young lady who has more on the mind than garbage and poison. She seems different than the average females her age. I can tell by the way she dresses, carries herself, just her overall mannerisms. I enjoyed talking to her and getting to know her. I would have talked to her all night if she would had let me. Even though our conversation was mainly us getting to know each other, it had its deep moments here and there, which made me hungry for more. I can already tell she is highly intelligent and overall knowledgable, witty, and captivating by the way she speaks. I learned that we have similar career interests involving politics and law, with mine having a focus on the budget and finance side. I am currently working in the accounting department at my father's office while attending college. My father is the mayor in the city. My whole family has a background and history in politics for many generations. My grandfather is a king in our native country of Atwahli, which is a country in Africa. My parents got married at 21 and moved to the U.S. and became dual citizens. My father is the youngest son, so he is not next in line to be king, which is the reason he wanted to venture out of Atwahli to explore what alternatives he could make for his legacy. My siblings and I were born in the U.S. but we spent half of the year in Atwahli every year growing up so that we could experience our childhood equally with learning culture and both languages. When my parents moved to the U.S., they purchased 50 acres of land in Henrico County, Virginia. Of course, with the help of my grandfather's riches, they built a private compound on it, including an 8 bedroom house. Each bedroom is designed as a master suite, including a master suite style bathroom and walkin style dressing room closets. It has a full basement with additional rooms, and the main level is designed as like a small mansion with formal and informal dining and living rooms. Our compound is equipped with everything, resort style living. For an average U.S. family, it would be very massive and impressive, but for us, it is only a fraction of our family compound in Atwahli. I am the youngest of five children. I have two older brothers, Samuel, 20, and Paul Jr., 26, and two older sisters, Sabrina, 22, and Tiffany, 24. My father has had successful consecutive terms of being mayor in the city for several years after having a successful career as the council man. He is now up to becoming the next Lt. Governor, he is expected to be officially nominated at the end of November. Although we have the compound in the county, my parents primarily live at the condo downtown in the city because city officials are required to live where they serve, and it is easier than commuting 45 minutes from our house in the county. He hired a butler to keep an eye on my siblings and I. The condo is actually really nice. It is in a luxury style highrise type of building with condos on the upper half of the building and hotel suites on the lower half. There is a huge parking garage underneath. I told Ariyanna that we lived in the same county, about 20 minutes apart, that I am the youngest too, that I work part time for the city, and that I am attending my first year of college. She has no idea what is under the surface yet. I will give her the full details soon, when it is time. I have learned that it is easier for other people to digest if you give these details in doses. I can't wait to text her in the morning and set up a time to see her again, hopefully, tomorrow once she gets home from school. I lay in my bed, half awake, reminicing on our conversation this evening. Her face, body, voice, smile, lips, laugh, scent, uhhhhh I need more of her. I have never been captivated by anyone like this before, in either country, and I have met numerous young ladies trying to get my attention, especially in Atwahli. The last few visits, my grandfather has arranged parties for my siblings and I to meet potential spouses, other young men and young women in our age group eager to marry into our family. None of his attempts have been successful for any of my siblings and I yet. I don't know how I am going to make it until I can be around her again. Tomorrow can't seem to come fast enough.
