The War Room

“The war is here?” I ask overwhelmed and looking around. Trying to look for something to hold on to to stabilize myself.

“Yes, and no matter what you choose, even if you choose to reject us both, you are now a fighter in this war.” Lee explains grimly.

“All this for Omega’s rights?” I ask.

“Your sister buried the lead there on that one this is a war against the Lycans” My jaw drops.

“So this is a rebellion?”

“More like a civil war because not every pack thinks that the Lycans are all that bad. Of course the ones that do are the ones that have Lycan blood in them.” I think for a second.

“Twistriver?”

“No, actually Xander is on our side but, people don’t trust that he is. The guy has daddy issues that he can explain to you.” I nod and examine more and more of the board. I see Derek’s parents with a sharpie X over their faces too and a red line leading to a question mark.

“Derek’s parents death shook the packs they were good people and great leaders. Which meant whoever did kill them had to have been Lycan.”

“Why is this happening now?”

“Your sister” I wear a confused look on my face.

“Let me start from the beginning, Diane as you have said was really concerned with rank growing up right?” He asks and I nod in response. “Well, even as a teenager she was trying to make waves in the fight for Omega’s rights. So much so that she garnered the attention of Derek. Derek as a teenager was going through Alpha training and empathized with Diane. They had their own love story alongside their fight. They were speaking out at pack meetings and even when other packs came over. His parents were letting him instead of silencing them. Someone didn’t like that and they were murdered. Derek and your sister were supposed to be next but, enough of the other packs felt bad for them and protected them while the Beta ruled and Derek finished his training and your sister her Luna training.” He takes a deep breath. “When it was it done and they took over a shift had occurred. Rosalina and Luke were clearly killed by a wolf-shifter of some kind, either werewolf or Lycan. That debate led to choosing sides not to mention what they died while championing Omega’s rights.” After saying this I can see a gear turning in his head before he speaks while blushing. “Do you take uh, Heat Blockers?” As an Omega we have Heat Cycles really all wolves do, but, us Omegas have an intense pull that even Alphas would cheat on their Luna’s because of the smell. Heat Blockers were designed to stop them from causing so much chaos.

“Yes I am.” Blushing in response to him inquiring about my heat. He nods and perses his lip.

“Well, those Heat Blockers were something that Luke and Rosalina, and now Derek and your sister fight for.”

“Are Omega’s really used as breeding slaves in other packs?” I ask confused as these always sounded like rumors to me.

“Unfortunately, yes this is something that is still happening to this day and your sister and Derek are proposing a big change to fix this.”

“What is it?”

“They want to abolish the lower ranks and make everyone an Epsilon.” Another Jaw-dropping moment.

“The Moon Goddess assigns our rank how could they change that?”

“Her wedding night was not the first time your sister and the Goddess has spoken.”

“Lee you are blowing my mind you gotta give me a second”

“Do you get why I am terrified of something happening to me or my sister? And why Liam being in charge would be such a bad thing?”

“Yes I do understand, who else knows all this?” I ask.

“Josie and Sean in my pack, I can’t speak for the others.” I can’t believe all of what I am hearing.

“I hate to point this out now but this may be why your sister was distant when you guys were teens.” He’s right, all this time I was so convinced that my sister was trying to get ahead for herself I never thought that she might be doing it to help other people. “It’s safe to say that you were kept in the dark for protection” That’s what Diane had said, everything I do not tell you is to protect you. “There are people now some even in my pack that are appalled that an Alpha an Omega for a mate. I of course would rip their heads off if they ever say it directly to either one of us but, you should know now that there are people protesting your happily ever after.”

“If that’s the case, why was I promised to Xander to begin with?”

“Diane wanted to essentially have a controlled burn, she knew she could trust you and she knew Xander would do anything to get back at his dad. She had planned to ask you for consent before promising you all the way off but, the mating got in the way of that” I cringe inwardly thinking of the harsh words I had shared with my sister when I woke up after passing out. Lee senses this and he walks toward me. He reaches out a hand to touch my face comfortingly. “Love, sisters are very forgiving don’t even think about beating yourself up over it.” I nod.

He brings me closer to embrace me and rubs my back as he holds me. I nestle myself into his neck and let his warmth take me over. We stand like this awhile with him comforting me but, I can tell more of his rage from Liam is dissipating. We pull away as we hear footsteps approaching. As he does pull away he quickly kisses me on the lips. While the first time was electric and powerful this time it was warm and comforting. Sean and Josie walk in just as we pull apart.

“Sorry to interrupt love birds” Josie says and we all smile except Sean who is wearing a tight expression.

“I didn’t realize that she was trustworthy enough to be taken here.” He remarks with a cold gaze in his eyes. This side of Sean is new to me.

“Sean please,” Josie starts but her brother cuts her off.

“No Josie, Sean what are you talking about?”

“I am just saying we are letting someone who has yet to commit to us in to our war planning room. Seems shortsighted Alpha Rourke.”

“I appreciate the concern Beta Sean but, I think I am more than capable of deciding who we can trust without your help.” Lee says in a tone that implies the conversation is over but Sean does not back down.

“When a war between the Lycans and the Werewolves is on the horizon you would think you would want to be as careful as possible.” He stops and looks at me and I feel a chill down my spine. “Especially since she is heading to Twistriver in a couple days.”

“I am well aware of what is on the horizon and you should be well aware that Twistriver are our allies and that Xander himself has been in this room before just as I have been in his. To cap it all off we have both been in Derek’s” He steps forward and over to the side to block Sean’s stare from me as if could actually freeze me. “Whatever you are on about I highly recommend dropping it” Sean turns and leaves without saying anything else.

“Sorry, if I had known that he would react that way I would have left him with Liam and Maeve.” Josie says apologetically and rushes over to hug me.

“It’s okay I understand” I answer back.

“It is most certainly not okay and he will be apologizing to you tomorrow. Josie what is going on with him he has been like this since the wedding.” Since me I say to myself. Ever since I had discovered Lee was one of my mates he has been like this. Reading my mind again Lee turns to where Josie and I are letting go of each other. “Celeste it is not your fault he is acting like an ass, Sean has gotten into these moods before” Josie nods in agreement with her brother.

“Well I had came looking for you guys because Liam was talking about going home before I left so I figures it would be safe for Lee”

Lee pinches the bridge of his nose. “Thank Goddess”

“Also Maeve really wants to play Monopoly”

“I’ve never played that one is it fun?” I say. They both turn to look at me with confusion and it looks to be betrayal.

“Did you have any friends before you came here” Josie jokes and starts to leading us outside. Lee takes my hand as I answer.

“No I didn’t have any friends” Josie stops to look at Lee this time and they share a nod before walking on. As we get to the house Josie runs inside and Lee and I take a seat on the couch. The two sisters return with a tray of ice water and the game they wanted to play. We each grab a glass as Josie clears her throat.

“I’d like to propose a toast to our new friend Celeste” We cheers and Lee leans in and pecks me on the cheek. We spend the rest of the afternoon playing various board games and watching some more animated movies. As it gets late and Maeve is starting to nod out Lee leans over again to whisper to me.

“Are you ready to go to bed Love?”
