"What type of s**t, Like the type of s**t that hurts to push out or the type that slides out so easy it's like you weren't even pushing or is it one of my favorite shits where you take a huge.." "Jackson!" I say stopping him "Sorry," He says "I called because I really need to talk things through with you," I say getting serious "What kind of things," He says with the same tone as me "Well for starters my mom just told me about my dad and her family which she never talks about," I say letting go of the past two and a half hours I spent with mom "Wow that's heavy," He says and in the background, it sounds like he just sat down "What kind of things did she tell you," He says half whispering I whisper back "The kind of things about them that I would have never guessed, Like for starters I have never met her family. Like my grandparents and I had no idea she had two siblings" I say feeling relieved to talk to someone another than my mom. "I just feel like I had such a great image in my head for a long time about... you know her family and especially my own dad but from what she told me he wasn't a good person," I say getting a little bit emotional but stopping myself from fully breaking down "I mean it's like for seventeen years I had a picture in my head of him being you know a good guy not like how he is but I was kidding myself from the start, What good guy would get a girl pregnant and just leave her" "Is that what happened?" Jackson says in a neutral tone "Well, not exactly but What I have just gathered from over the years that's what I think he did," I say feeling a silent tear drip down my face, It's funny how you can imagine someone your whole life from there looks to personality to even there jobs and still not really know them. Like for instance take my mom, my mom has always been from the time I've known her such a goody two shoes. But now finding out that she hang out and even got with someone in a gang is so insane to me I can't even take it. "Look maybe you should just hear the whole of the story before you start jumping to conclusions," He says as if he knows everything about my life and my mom "Jackson I can jump to anything conclusions I want okay I've only known you for not even a week and you've come into my life at such a hectic time I can't take anymore. From finding out about my dad to having recurring dreams I've been having almost my whole life, to being diagnosed by a so-called professional that supposedly says I have a disorder called Nightmare disorder or something like that, which I don't even know is a real thing. Not to mention the whole Sean and Piper thing" I say spitting out and rehashing complete and Utter Nonsense. The call is quiet for minutes upon end and all I can hear is my heartbeat as I listen to Jackson's faint breathing. "Are you there?" I say annoyed "I'm here," He says sounding as calm as ever "Good that's just great isn't it," I say finally calming down and feeling embarrassed. "I'm sorry if I upset you," He says sounding Sincere "No you didn't I'm the one who should be apologizing, I shouldn't have gone off at you for no reason," I say closing my eyes and waiting for a response "Like I said talk to your mom and listen to the whole story because I'm sure there a lot more she has to say," He says "I will see you soon" I say "And remember Bridget the truth will set you free" He says and the the phone call ends . I don't like getting mad at people or making them upset because that's the only thing I think about after I've done it. I remember two years ago Clair invited me on a camping trip with her family to Arizona and on the long 12-hour drive home Clair and I had such biggest fight over the same boy we both liked. Kind of like the semi-fight we had earlier this week about Hudson, but completely worst. We called each other the most awful names but what hurt me the most was seeing Clair cry in front of me because of my actions. When I got home I didn't sleep well at all because the memory of Clair's face crying and all the names I called her just overpowered everything in my life that nothing I could do could stop me thinking about the harmful words I exchanged with Clair. So the next day I had mom drive me to her house and I apologized for all the nasty and frankly immature words I said to her. "Knock knock," Mom says to me on the outside of my open door and I turn around and see a brown takeout bag with the logo of Olive Garden on it "I bought you your favorite," She says holding it up with a smile. "Chicken Palm with a side of chips?" I say smiling and she nods "Oh and" from behind her back she pulls out a cup of green tea from Starbucks and I run over to her and give her the biggest hug I've ever given her. She pulls away "I decided comfort food will be good for part two of the story," she says "Met me at the kitchen table in ten minutes for dinner while you go freshen up," She says nudging her head to the shower and I nod A good old steamy shower is just what I need right now. I lay out my PJs on my bed and I walk to the shower feeling so happy and glad that this day will be over once I finally hear the end of the story. When I enter the bathroom the mirror is all fogged up from me putting on the steamy hot shower on to warm up earlier and when I look into the half foggy mirror I have expected my mind to play a trick on me or something and see writing on the mirror or something but nothing ends up happening so I undress and make my way over to the shower. Inside the coldness from the outside instantly slips away as the warmness of the water seeps into my sore back, neck and my bandaged up hand. I decided I should probably unwrap it and see the damage that I did to myself at the clinic when Dr. Adams was talking to me. I unwrap it slowly half expecting to see half of my skin on my palm ripped off but all I see is the faintest sign of a scratch. I breathe In a big sigh of relief thinking I would see Freddy Kruger's bloody face under the bandage but it looks to be almost completely healed. I never saw how it looked when I first began to dig my fingernails into my palm but I may be at least expected more. The rest of the shower I stand with my eyes closed thinking how crazy my life has taken such a dramatic turn in a week and all my worries just disappear for the slightest moment until there is a knock on the bathroom door. "Are you ok in there" Mom calls out from the outside of the door and I shut off the water. "Yeah, I'm fine just enjoying the warmness of the shower. I will be down in a minute" I say spraying deodorant under my armpits just as I hear my bedroom door shut. I very quickly and quietly dry myself off and tie my hair in a very tight wet bun and walk out to my room to get into my warm pj's. Downstairs the table has been set and the smell is absolutely divine. I can tell mom has warmed up the chicken in the microwave as I make it into the kitchen and see mom pulling it out freshly cooked and look amazing. "Bon appetit," She says handing me the hot meal and I quickly run to the table before I burn my hands off. Mom has lit two French vanilla candles on the table and my green tea is sitting at the head of the table and moms drink is placed at the other end of the table. "Wow, mom you didn't have to do this," I say sitting down as she brings over Her spaghetti and meatballs which she ordered. "I wanted to do this since we never really don't do these kind of things anymore, since the both of us are busy nowadays," She says digging straight into her dinner and I processed with ease. For the next, fifteen or twenty minutes mom and I are quiet while we eat dinner. The both of us not wanting to ruin a good meeal over what is about to come. "Your father and I used to go on dinner dates when we first starting going out," She says wiping her mouth with a napkin as she finishes her spaghetti. "How old was dad when you met him," I say as I violently stab a piece of chicken with a plastic fork and almost break it. "He was thirty," She says picking up her dish and puts it into the dishwasher not starting it until I'm done. "So you were nineteen and he was a thirty-year-old man when you meet him," I say as she makes her way back with a glass of wine and I feel jealous of her. "Well yeah if you put it that way but he never really acted his age. Plus I mean he looked like he was just in his early twenties" She says relighting a candle that blew out. "Was that ever weird for you, Like he was older than both of your siblings?" I say finishing my meal and leaving it on the table as I gulp down the rest of my green tea. "I didn't really find out about his age till later on in the relationship but I didn't really care about the ten year age gap," She says chewing on an icicle from her wine glass. I place my empty green teacup on the table dramatically and say "Let's get into it shall we," I say smiling and she nods. "Ok so where was I," She says swirling her glass of wine around and then stopping "Ah! ok so after he asked me out I obviously said yes because you know I was freshly out of school and I wasn't really planning on going to college because, to be honest, my grades an school attendance wasn't that great so even if I wanted to go and experience college back then I couldn't really get into any even if I tried" She says taking a sip of wine "So basically one day I was curious about what his tattoo on his chest meant and he told me that it was the name of his gang he was in hence the SM you saw on the envelope" I stop her "Why was SM written on the envelope anyway," I ask "Well one day I woke up to something in the mail from Richard and the front of it had in big written letters SM on it" "But why did you write it on the envelope you gave me? I say confused "Well I saved it from all those years ago and I reused it because I was too lazy to buy a new envelope," She says half slurring her words "I was very confused as to why Richard didn't just call me if he wanted to talk to me but I opened the letter and long and behind there was like a contract inside of the envelope," She says finishing her wine and refilling it again with more wine and ice. "Before you even say anything about what the contract was or says I'm getting to it so don't interrupt," She says smiling and I make a motion like I'm zipping my lips. "Ok so the letter basically said The Societies Misfits was an elite gang of the future Misfits whatever that means and they told me to meet them inside an abandoned apartment late at night if I wanted to join" "I was obviously curious about joining this elite gang thinking at night all of Richard's friends turn all Clean and pristine and drink cups of tea and talk about golf," She says bursting into laughter "But it was nothing like that. So I called Richard and asked about Societies Misfits and he said that they were strongly considering making me a member of there group but I had to prove my loyalty first, whatever that meant" She says winking and I feel a sudden cold breeze in the room. "So the next night I brought the so-called contract to the abandoned apartment but don't worry I know what you're thinking I didn't go alone Rodrigo suggested to tag alone since he's been through this whole process before. "When I got there, there were about fifty gang members standing around each floor and even before I entered outside the apartment entrance there were two guys wearing bandanas that had SM written all over them and they each had a rifle in their hand," She says chewing on more ice like there's no tomorrow. My whole reaction to this is quite shocked but also what else did I expect from my father. "But when Rodrigo and I got there all hell broke loose from there. I got blindfolded and thrown into the back of the car while I was driven to an undisclosed" "Anyway when they pulled the mask off I was joined by Richard and he was the one who was drove me to this place and turns out it was a mansion we ended up in. So Richard killed the engine a told me to keep quiet while we broke into the mansion" "You broke into someones home," I say not believing my ears. "Well yeah but up until that point I thought that was the only part of the test but it wasn't. I was in for a treat" She says finishing her second glass of wine and I want to tell her to slow it down a little but I can't help but watch. "It was fairly easy to break-in. There wasn't any lock picking or anything. The owner of the mansion had a type of code you typed into this keypad and turns out it was one of the easiest password ever" She says giggling non-stop "What was it," I say expecting it to be 1234 or something. She laughs "6969," She says hitting the table and laughing and I make a little smirk finding it amusing seeing my mom laugh like this. Its been such a long time since the last time a saw her laugh this hard. "After we got in Richard lead me to a room in the basement and tired up was a family full of rich people. From the mom and dad to 4 children" She says gulping down the rest "Omg mom tell me you didn't kill them," I say wanting to throw up "Oh my god of course not your father told me to threaten them in order to pass the test and I thought all of this was fake so I just played along with it all and said I was going to kill them with the rifle Richard was holding," She says suddenly getting serious "Why did you threaten them. What was the end goal to terrify the kids?" I say getting angry "Societies Misfits were run by a bunch of lowlifes who either got kicked out onto the street by there rich parents for smoking weed or for acting up at school," She says chewing on the ice from the now empty wine bottle "But you weren't rich or got kicked out of home so why did they want you to join," I say cracking my knuckles hard "Well technically not all of them wanted me to join only my brother and obviously Richard." "Anway enough of the questions I went to get this over with and go to sleep," She says fake yawning. I've never seen my mom like this before. From the way, her voice is to the way she is carrying herself drunk I can almost see a sliver of her old self and it terrifies me. "So Societies Misfits stole from the rich because they were sad about there life and wanted revenge so that's what Richard and my brother did" "While threatening them Richard told me to ask them where their money was. So I obviously was scared because I thought I would get stabbed by Richard so I threaten them and said if they don't give the money up there children will die Which now thinking about it for years and haunting me is crazy, I think I was just so in love with Richard that I didn't care what I said as long as it was Him and I was fine" She says suddenly sobering up a little "Than we ended up successfully stealing 20k worth of jewelry off of that poor family and I passed the test and got into SM," She says frowning "I'm so ashamed of what I did but I just couldn't help it the drug I felt when I did it to that poor family was so overwhelming i had to do it again. So I told your father I wanted to join him on more robbers and he happily agreed. So the next month we had planned the biggest robbery of all which was to rob one of the richest people at the time who owned a big shopping mall" She says looking up at the roof as if trying to remember something "I want to warn you, Bridget, that I have to tell you everything before its too late," She says with Fear in her eyes. I nod trying to best prepare myself with what she will say next. "So again the night came to rob the guy at one of his holiday houses in Los Angles. So with the money, we robbed on my test to join SM. Richard used that 20k to make plans to holiday in LA for a week after robbing him" Sitting there still shell-shocked I nod. "We almost got caught breaking into the house mansion of that rich guy I can't remember the name of. So I tired up the guy while your father had a fake gun in his hands threatening that he would kill the guy if he didn't tell us where his safe was." She says skipping over words and not making sense. "So while I was sitting on the chair watching the guy your father ran upstairs and searched every room for cameras before coming back downstairs and threatening the man again." She begins to cry "Richard wouldn't stop threatening that poor man and his anger got the best of him and well Richard shot him dead," She says crying into her hands and I just sit there shocked not knowing what to say or do. "m-m-m My father was a killer," I say and she looks up and nods .........
