I tilted my head, looking at the weird man in front of me. He was dressed like the court jester too! I snorted and before I could stop myself, burst into laughter.
"Just who do you think you arree?" His voice was heavy but squeaky.
I laughed some more, to the point it brought me to tears. Wiping them off, I stood up. He was about my height but he seriously looked so funny.
"I'm uh- I'm the King's guest!" I said, looking at him a bit comically. "And you are?"
"Guest? There are no guests of the King," he said snarkily. "You must leave immeediatelyy."
He kept stretching the last word of every sentence.
"Um, I came here this morning so you might not know me," I said, more nervously.
His eyebrows knitted together even further, not that he looked pleasant with a straight face, and he stepped closer looking at me. His eyes wandered all over my body before resting on my face again, looking even more ridiculously annoyed.
"I can not have you wandering the palace. Come out with me right nowww," he drawled the last word and I snickered. He looked at me more irritably and I quickly covered my mouth behind my hand.
"But the King said I could stay!" I protested but he wouldn't hear me. He grabbed a hold of my arm and began dragging me outside. I tried to protest but he kept pulling me. My wrist was beginning to hurt.
"Let her go!" A voice thundered before the man's hand was ripped away from mine.
It was Derek.
The man now looked like he had seen the afterlife in his present life. "B-But sire! She's a trespasser-"
"I said, do not touch my guest!" Derek roared. The way he yelled was enough to make anyone cower in fear. If I were at the receiving end, I would've fainted.
I couldn't keep my eyes off of him though. The way he stood, his muscle tight against that weird thing he wore, his handsome features knitted together and the way he clenched his jaw. Man you can't find stuff like this on earth! I realized I was practically drooling, so I quickly reverted my gaze back to the man who'd been dragging me.
"Apologize to her this instant," Derek demanded, turning to look at me. His silver eyes softened as they looked at me and did a once-over. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
"N-no," my voice came out meek so I cleared my throat. "I'm fine."
He gently took my wrist in his hand. It had reddened and a hand print was beginning to form around it. It did stung a bit but not enough for me to whine or wail over.
"Doesn't look okay to me," he mumbled. He turned to the man again. "Apologize Vincent!"
"Y-yes sire," he quickly turned to me and bowed. "I'm so sorry ma'am! I really am!"
"It's okay, really," I told Derek and the man, Vincent. I tried to pull my wrist out of Derek's grasp but he held it more firmly. His touch was making me feel so queasy.
Especially my stomach.
"Do not interfere again Vincent," Derek stated, looking dead serious. "She is my special guest. Leave."
Vincent practically shook with fear, "I promise I w-won't s-sire."
Derek led me to a nearby couch and raised my wrist to his mouth, blowing air over it. And man! Was that the greatest feeling ever!
The air he blew was cold and made the tiny sting instantly go away. And I loved the way he was being so careful with my wrist. Holding it delicately close to his face. He smelled like strawberries from this close. My heart fluttered.
"I'm sorry this happened," he murmured, looking at me with his magnetic eyes. "I already caused you so much trouble and now because of me, you're being inconvenienced again."
My heart dropped and I felt my tiny bubble of butterflies shatter.
Of course. He's doing this because he feels indebted to Shia and not for me.
"That's enough," I mumbled, pulling my hand back and looking at my lap. "I'm okay now."
"Do you want to turn in for the night?" He asked kindly.
I nodded and without glancing at him, floated up to my bed. The thing that I noticed though, Derek didn't use wings. And neither did the other pixies. Was wings out of fashion? But how was I supposed to fly without them? I only had Shia's wand and I had zero idea when Derek or somebody else could tell I was not a pixie but a human.
Plus, I really didn't like these pointy ears and dark eyebrows. They made me look weird.
As I flopped down on the bed, my eyes fell over that guy, Vincent. He still hadn't left. I saw him throw a dirty look at me. I frowned.
What's his deal anyway?
I tried to lay back but the wings kept bothering me so I had to lay on my side. I couldn't sleep because of well, everything, so I kept tossing and turning. I think this went for a couple of hours.
At one point, I tossed so hard I fell of the corner but instead of hitting the ground, which was at least 12 feet beneath me by the way, my wings fluttered carrying me like an agitated horse mid-air. Sleeping this high was kind of scary for me and I couldn't go to sleep without fearing I'd fall. I let my wings carry me to the ground before I made them disappear. They were too annoying really.
The palace was silent and dark except for a few candles lit here and there. The place was very unfamiliar and I felt so tired too. I looked up at the bed and pulled out my wand, trying to bring it down.
Darn! I wish I'd let Derek bring that down for me.
It wasn't working because I was so nervous, my hand kept shaking. I sighed and pulled the wand back, deciding to just sleep on the floor. But before I could sit down, the bed floated down on its own.
I smiled excitedly, like a kid. It gently rested on the ground and I dived straight into it. Finally! I could sleep a bit. As I laid down, I thought of my Dad. I had no idea how long it would be before he starts worrying and calling in the police or Dylan. I just hoped Cameron and Shia were smart enough to put him under a charm or spell to make him think I was still there.
I think I noticed a certain chocolate haired King disappear into the shadows but I couldn't be sure.
*******
My eyes snapped open and stretched, yawning. Light was pouring in through huge, open windows and I realized I was practically asleep in the hall!
I quickly sat up and looked around. Sure enough, it was the hall of the palace and about a hundered multicolored pixies were watching me sleep!
"Aah!" I quickly covered my body with the blanket.
They were all looking at me as if I was the strangest thing in the world. I quickly touched my pointy ears and sure enough, they were still there.
They all looked at me so curiously, as if I was something at a museum. I pulled the blanket tighter around my body, suddenly feeling hot and nervous.
"Okay! Nothing to see here pixies. Be on your way," came a squeaky voice. A brunette pixie flew into view, without wings, and motioned everybody to move away from my bed. Then she turned to look at me through her round, thick-rimmed glasses. "Are you awake?"
She was so tiny yet she looked so intimidating. Her features were sharp, like most pixies, her hair was a lighter shade of brunette, a tiny pointy nose and chubby cheeks.
"I-I'm fine. Thankyou," I said shyly.
"Come on then! Let's get you dressed for breakfast with the King!" She squeaked. She was so adorable!
A couple of more pixies flew in and grabbed me each by the shoulders and legs, lifting me up from the bed.
"Hey! I can walk on my own!" I protested but they didn't listen.
Doesn't anyone on Pixie Island listen? They've got bigger ears afterall.
They carried me out of bed and flew me out an open archway. I was still not used to this whole 'floating in mid-air' thing so I squeezed my eyes shut. The place seemed to be getting higher and higher.
Staying here, for more than 24 hours now I guess, I realized I liked my feet more 'grounded'.
Finally, when I felt my body being laid down, I opened my eyes. And boy! Every scene I opened my eyes to was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. There were flowers and wines hanging over my head. A fountain was in the middle of the room, an angel in the middle. Water fell down and I saw tiny baby pixies playing around in it. There were flowers almost in every corner and I was sitting on a white, pretty lifted up bed. There were sparkles everywhere. Man these pixies love sparkles.
"Time for your bath!" The one with the glasses squeaked again.
"What?" I was used to taking my own baths so no way was I going to let them strip me.
"Ah yes. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Heize. The King has ordered me to take care of all your needs. So, we must help you get ready and take you down for breakfast with the King. So off you go, take off your clothes and into the water!"
And after that, nobody listened to me. They stripped my clothes and, though I was continuously protesting, carried me and dumped me into a huge bathtub. The water felt so warm against my skin.
I giggled, playing with the bubbles. I didn't know they had bubble baths in Pixie Island.
After I was done, the pixies even gave me a mani pedi. They rubbed my skin like a child, of course ignoring my protests. Seriously, fairies here don't listen.
Heize flew in with a really pretty dress. It was short, pink, off-shouldered and lacy. I smiled, instantly forgetting how they'd made me take a bath forcefully.
I put on the dress and then they used magic to make it sparkle and do my hair. It curled my Auburn locks a bit and decorated the top of my head with flowers.
"Woww," I'd heard them murmur when I'd stepped out from behind the vines.
"What about my shoes?" I asked, wiggling my toes.
"We don't wear shoes anymore!" Heize squeaked. She admired her work with an awe struck face. "The King shall be delighted!"
I frowned. "Wha-? What do you mean?"
"Oh, I mean uh- he'll really like that we did our job," she blushed.
I shook my head and pulled out my wand, zapping myself a pair of matching pink heels.
The pixies all gasped. "What shoes are those?"
"Heels," I said sinply, turning my feet to show them.
A yellow haired pixie flew to Heize, "They're way better than the pumps we used to wear."
Heize nodded. Then snapped out of it. "Let's lead her to the King!"
The pixies grabbed my arms and flew me inside the palace again. In the middle of the great hall, a dining table sat on the ground with many, many chairs. On one chair sat Derek, wearing the same weird outfit he'd brought me here in. Another pixie, a girl, with blue hair was sitting across from him. And the other ones looked like servants.
Derek brightened when he saw me being flown over. They put me in the chair next to him with ease.
"I realized you were having trouble with the furniture floating. So I had them all brought to the ground. Is that okay?" He asked, his tone the same, kind and gentle.
I looked at him but it was hard not to blush when I peered into his extremely magnetic eyes. His eyes went over my body. "You look lovely." Then he looked at Heize who'd been floating next to my chair. "Well done Heize."
She nodded and flew away. Derek turned towards the blue haired pixie. "This is my childhood best friend Samara. Samara, this is Narissa."
Up close, she was so beautiful! She had a thin face, slightly chubby cheeks and the prettiest face I'd ever seen. She was wearing a peach sparkling outfit with a corset like body design. Even her fingers were so pretty.
I nervously tucked my hands beneath the table. I was seriously a potato compared to her beauty.
She didn't smile. She just glared at me before slamming her hands on the table and standing up.
"You," she snarled, pointing at me. "I know your secret."
Oh boy.
