I stared at Sam, the blue haired pixie, in a sort of suspended state.
Has she realized I'm not the real Shia? Oh man. That is so not good.
Derek frowned, "Sam, what type of behaviour is this?"
I squirmed, still not giving up in the tiny stare off she had me indulged in. She kept her eyes narrowed as she retreated, settling back in her chair and looking at Derek with an annoying pout.
"Why would you bring this pest here?" She whined.
My mouth dropped open. Pest? Me?
Before I could open my mouth and put miss bleach in her place, Derek beat me to it.
"That is no way to talk to her Sam! She is a royal guest and is allowed to stay here as long as she likes! Now, I expect you to behave yourself."
Sam glared at me before quickly putting on a fake smile. She flashed her annoyingly perfect teeth in my direction. "I'm sorry. I must've lost my mind there for a second. You must be hungry. Go on, have something."
I knew what she was doing here. She was in love with the King and yet poor Kingy couldn't even see that. He was too busy being kind and gentle, he didn't seem to know what his childhood buddy was feeling.
"Yes Narissa. Have something," Derek encouraged.
I looked at the table, suddenly very hungry, and my eyes nearly fell out of there sockets.
The entire table, which was really, really long, was filled with garbage!
There was a bowl of weird slug like stuff, different type of herbs, weeds even seed, leaves and other stuff you usually find a cow or domestic animals eating on earth.
I inwardly gagged.
Didn't they have a McPerri or Mr. Cod out here?
"Yeah I don't- I don't think I can eat this," I mumbled, pushing the plate away from myself.
Sam narrowed her eyes but didn't say anything. Concern and worry quickly took over Derek's features.
"Why? Is something wrong? Do you have the sparkly flu?" He pressed a hand on my forehead, sending a jolt through my skull. I quickly pulled it away.
"No, no. It's just that, I've become really accustomed to the food humans eat," I mumbled, rubbing ny palms over my thighs.
Derek frowned. "Whatever it is, tell me. I'll give all of it to you."
"Really?" I grinned, pleasantly surprised.
He nodded while Sam sulked some more. What the heck was her problem anyway.
I told Derek I wanted to have a double cheese patty burger and a large drink of cola. He didn't look like he was familiar with what I was saying was but he nonetheless zapped it all for me on the table.
The scent of the burger immediately put me in better spirits as I grabbed and bit into it. The cheese melted inside my mouth, making me reel in pleasure.
Derek smiled while Sam made a face. I looked at the sluggish junk they were eating. "Why on earth would you eat all this weird gunk?"
Before Derek could respond, Sam slammed her fork on the table top. "How dare you insult the royal cuisine?!"
I scoffed. "Royal? Puh-lease. Eating worms doesn't qualify as "royal cuisine". It qualifies as "royal junk"."
Her mouth twitched in disbelief and anger but I ignored it and turned to Derek.
"You should really try some human food. I'm telling you, it's really really good."
Derek opened his mouth but another pixie flew upto him. She had a blonde bun over her head and a clipboard in her hand with a quill.
"Sire, what shall be the menu for today?" She asked in a tiny voice.
"Gina, today's menu should be-" Derek began but I cut him off.
"Pizza!" I exclaimed.
Gina frowned and looked back at Derek who was looking at me in half shock and half amusement.
"Trust me. Pizza is such a delicious dish. Have you never had it?"
Both shook their head.
"I don't believe this!" I exclaimed, getting out of my chair and running over to Gina. "You should make todays menu be pizza and fries with a large cola for everyone!"
"There is no way the King is going to listen to you little pest. Just sit back down and eat your stupid human food," Sam grumbled.
I looked at Derek with an innocent face, "Please King? You didn't listen to me years ago please trust me this once."
That did it. He was guilt tripped as soon as the words left my mouth and he ordered Gina to prepare whatever I said as the menu today. I smiled happily.
Sam's mouth hung open as she stared at him.
"Where is the hall? Where is everybody gathering to eat?" I asked.
Gina led me to through a door. My mouth dropped open. More than maybe a hundred pixies had gathered, sitting on long tables, waiting for food. Kind of like the hall at Hogwarts only more, or less, real.
Gina clapped her hands and pizzas dropped to everyone's plates. Everyone fell silent as they stared at the food and then back at Gina.
"Eat up you guys!" I yelled, cupping my hands around my mouth. "You'll love it trust me!"
A few pixies, actually a lot of them, seemed skeptical. They stared at me then at their plates, not knowing what to do.
"Why is no one eating?" Derek's thick voice boomed.
I turned around to see him walk up to me, that bleached Sam behind him.
Hearing the King, a pixie reluctantly picked up a slice. His eyes met mine and I encouraged him to go on and take a bite. He kept staring at me before breaking off a piece and chewing it.
The entire hall, inculding the King, watched him curiously as he munched. I had a smirk on my face. I knew he'd love it.
There isn't a specie in this world who doesn't love pizza!
The pixie's frown slowly turned to excitment as he swallowed. "This is delicious!" He yelled, frantically grabbing more.
Seeing him, the entire hall digged into their own pizza boxes and pretty soon, the hall was filled with cheers and pleased pixies.
I smirked at Sam, who had an annoyed look on her face. She really thought she could show me the door? The poor i***t.
Derek smiled at me. His smile was so charming. So beautiful, it alone made my stomach churn a bit. Everything about him was dazzling. Except his outfit. I couldn't tell if rag was in fashion for this season at Pixie Island or if he wore them because he liked to.
He left to go to the Royal Sessions and Sam followed, her hair turning to a deep shade of blue. She was so pissed. I laughed inwardly. It felt so s******c to watch her turn green and purple and red.
With jealousy or whatever.
As I stood there feeling pleased with what I'd done, a group of four pixies flew over suddenly surrounding me. They weren't pint sized, like Gina and Heize. Instead, they were my size.
Although I'm not sure about the age.
"Thanks! We really loved the pizza!" A grey haired boy said.
I smiled, nervously tucking a strand of my hair behind my ear.
"You're Shia right?" A girl spoke up from the group.
I frowned. Shia? Why- ohh.
I quickly nodded, my heartbeat rising. A little slip could get me caught immediately. "I am but I go by Narissa now."
"Narissa. That's such a wicked name!" The other girl smiled.
One by one, the group of pixies kids began introducing themselves.
"Hi! I'm Marie," a girl with orange hair spoke up. She had such a pretty voice, like a baby's. She had a slender body, long arms and legs. "And this is Toni," she pointed to the geek like pixie, with glasses and freckles who was the first one to speak. "That's James and Norra."
The boy with the dirty blonde hair grinned at me. He was so good-looking too! If he'd been born human, those Armani and Gucci models would have a serious rival. His muscles were solid, but not as bulgy as Derek's of course, and his smile was to die for. The girl with the black hair flashed me a pretty smile. She had bangs falling over her forehead, giving her a pretty china doll look.
"I'm Narissa," I mumbled shyly, feeling the need to say that since they were all telling me their names.
Toni smiled, pushing his glasses further up the bridge of his nose. "Do you want us to show around? I bet you've forgotten the Island by now."
Would you really?! Without me asking?
Excitement bubbled inside me and so did relief. I wouldn't slip up if they offered to do everything on their own behalf.
"I would love that."
☆☆☆
We spent the rest of the day flying around Pixie Island. It really was a very attractive place. Plus, if you get to fly around instead of sitting in a car praying you wouldn't fall off a cliff, it gets even more fun.
When it was time to see all the colourful hills, I took a step back. I was still reluctant to fly since I could lose control of my wings anytime. I'd rather not plummet to my own death.
"Here," James extended a friendly hand towards me.
Star shone in my eyes just by looking at his good looks. The dimples were really a cherry on top of the cake.
I gratefully placed my hand in his. One thing that I kept noticing was, majority of the pixies didn't use wings to fly. I'd only seen a few use them to fly but largely, nobody really did.
He began to pull me up but I hesitated. Frowing, he came back down.
"What's the matter? Are you nervous?" He asked gently.
The others crowded around us.
"Makes sense. She hasn't flown in years," Norra said, rubbing her n***d arms. "Let's not make her fly for now."
"I agree with Nora," Toni interjected. "Making her fly could actually make her lose her powers and plummet down to the ground at an angle of 45° to the South-East. Calculating the distance from the highest peak to the lake down below, she could easily crush every bone in her body."
Marie rolled her eyes, "We get it Toni. Too high could make you bone stew."
I gawked at them in surprise. They were talking just like regular teenagers from back home! I wouldn't be able to even tell I wasn't at school if it weren't for those rags these guys were wearing and those pointy ears.
"How about I carry her?" James suggested.
Before I could say anything, he grabbed me in one swift motion and lifted me up bridal style. Being so close to him made me so nervous but my arms automatically went around his shoulders.
It was a reflex really.
He gave me toothy smile before turning to the others. "She's so light weight. Much lighter than you Marie."
"Not my fault you couldn't fly me across the orange field!" Marie growled. "You were weak."
He merely laughed and from up this close, it was the best view ever. I quickly turned my head away as the four of them bickered in the background. Blush was creeping over my face and I felt suddenly hot.
"Up we go!" James called before pushing off the ground.
I squealed and clung onto him even tighter. Thank God I was wearing those safety shorts under the dress or else I would've flashed Pixie Island. Luckily, they didn't have cameras.
Marie, Toni, Norra and James flew me all around the Island and I absolutely loved it. I forgot all about how nervous I'd felt about James being this close to me and pretty soon, I was liking the cold wind blowing through my hair and body. Plus, it felt so relaxing that I didn't have to hold onto his hand with the constant fear of slipping.
We spent the rest of the day flying around different fields, rivers, lakes, waterfalls. Everything here was so colourful! It was as if I was inside a drawing.
James put me down and I stumbled a bit.
"Woah! Easy there," he smiled again, grabbing my arms with ease.
I held onto them, nervously laughing. "I-I haven't flown this much in years."
Or in never. I'm not even a pixie.
I didn't say the last line out loud of course. I'd just made new friends.
The sun was almost down and we were standing at the top of a really big mountain or hill, I didn't really know. The air up here was only slightly chilly despite being so high.
I smiled as I looked around. The four of them gathered around, playfully teasing Toni about his glasses. I walked a bit away from them, admiring the scenery.
As I took a deep breath in, I felt calm but suddenly I was reminded of Dad. I knew how much he cared for me and would be worried right now. I just hoped Shia and Cameron had come up with a solution for this.
I didn't notice that I had wandered quiet many steps away from the group and nearer to the edge. Suddenly, my heel slipped on the grass and I felt myself fall forward.
"Ah!" I gasped as I felt my body plummet, what I don't know may have been 60,000 ft above the ground.
"Narissa!" I heard several shouts.
It all happened so fast after that. I closed my eyes, ready to make a very, very painful contact with the ground when I felt arms go around me and a muscular body over my flailing one.
I opened my eyes and there they were again.
That pair of silver eyes.
