CHAPTER1: THE MAN I SWORE TO DESTROY
Amara Vale stood outside Blackwood Tower, and looked up seeing his name still made her angry.. Adrian Blackwood, the man she believed ruined her family, she carried the belief personal especially the belief of her father's disappearance. She told herself she hated him. That hate kept her steady. But when she stepped into the lobby and saw him waiting in his tailored suit she felt nervous, Miss Vale," he said smoothly. "To what do I owe this visit?" Her jaw tightened. "Don't pretend you don't know why am here,,You know what you did." A flicker crossed his face but it was gone in an instant ,"If you've come to make accusations, at least have proof." Her fingers gripped at her sides. "One day, I will expose you." And somehow, the words didn't sound as strong as she wanted."
As she turns to leave, her phone slips and falls she bend to pick it up her eye drifts to the desk then she sees a folder with a name Blackwood on it her breath catches. Then she looks around to see if anyone was watching and tries to reach the folder her fingers trembling and pauses halfway exhales and walks out.
The next morning Amara couldn't stop thinking about the folder she saw, " what is inside that folder that is hidden so very well" she falls on the bed while asking herself ,
For years, everyone had told her that Elias Vale had disappeared because of financial problems. Some believed he had run away. Others believed he had betrayed his business partners. But Amara had never accepted any of those explanations.
Her father would never abandon her.
She reached for her phone and opened her notes. She typed:
Blackwood Tower. Confidential folder. Elias Vale.
Then she paused.
If Adrian had information about her father, why had he kept it hidden? And why had he looked so uncomfortable when she mentioned exposing him?
Amara stood up and walked toward the mirror. Her reflection looked tired, but her eyes were filled with determination.
“I’m going back,” she said firmly. “I need to know the truth.”
The following afternoon, she returned to Blackwood Tower. This time, she wore a simple black dress and carried a small handbag. She approached the reception desk, trying to appear calm.
“I need to see Mr. Blackwood.”
The receptionist looked at her computer.
“Do you have an appointment?”
“No, but he knows me.”
Before the receptionist could respond, a deep voice came from behind her.
“She doesn’t need one. Amara froze.
Adrian stood a few steps away, his expression unreadable.
His eyes moved from her face to the handbag in her hand.
“Come with me, Miss Vale,” he said.
Amara swallowed and followed him toward the private elevator, unaware that he already knew about the folder.
