chapter 1: The First Shadow
The rain had been falling for hours.
Amelia stood beside the window of her small apartment, watching the streets disappear beneath a curtain of silver. She held a cup of coffee in her hands, but it had already gone cold.
Something felt wrong.
She couldn't explain it.
For the past few days, she had felt as though someone was watching her. Whenever she turned around, there was nobody there. Whenever she checked her phone, there were no strange messages.
Until tonight.
Her phone suddenly vibrated on the table.
Amelia walked over and picked it up.
Unknown Number
Her heart skipped.
She opened the message.
«You don't know me, but I know the truth about you.»
Amelia stared at the screen.
Another message arrived.
«Don't trust the people closest to you.»
Her fingers tightened around the phone.
"Who is this?" she whispered.
She typed a reply, but before she could send it, another message appeared.
«Tomorrow. 8:00 PM. Rosewood Café. Come alone.»
Then the number disappeared.
Amelia tried calling it.
Number unavailable.
A cold feeling moved through her.
Rosewood Café wasn't a place she normally visited. In fact, she had only been there once—three years ago.
And that was the night everything in her life had changed.
She pushed the thought away.
"Coincidence," she told herself.
But deep down, she knew it wasn't.
---
The next morning, Amelia arrived at work earlier than usual.
She tried to concentrate, but the mysterious messages kept returning to her mind.
Her best friend, Lily, noticed immediately.
"You look like you didn't sleep," Lily said.
"I'm fine."
Lily raised an eyebrow.
"You always say that when you're definitely not fine."
Amelia forced a smile.
Before she could answer, a man walked into the office.
He was tall, dressed in a dark suit, and carried himself with quiet confidence. Several employees looked up as he passed.
Amelia had never seen him before.
Their eyes met for only a moment.
But something about his expression made her uneasy.
He stopped beside her desk.
"Amelia Carter?"
She nodded.
"My name is Adrian Black."
He placed a folder on her desk.
"I think you need to see this."
Amelia looked at the folder.
"What is it?"
Adrian's expression became serious.
"Something that should have been given to you three years ago."
Amelia's heart stopped.
Three years.
The same year she had been trying desperately to forget.
She slowly opened the folder.
Inside was a photograph.
Her hands began to tremble.
It was a picture of her father.
A man she had been told was dead.
Amelia looked up at Adrian.
"Where did you get this?"
Adrian didn't answer immediately.
Instead, he leaned closer and quietly said,
"Your father is alive."
The room seemed to disappear around her.
Amelia stared at him in disbelief.
Then her phone vibrated again.
She looked down.
Another message from the unknown number.
«He's lying to you.»
Amelia slowly looked back at Adrian.
For the first time, she realized that the stranger in front of her might not be the person she needed to fear.
But he might be the person who knew why everyone had been lying to her.
And somewhere in the shadows, someone was watching them both.
