Chapter Twelve We slept until a little before midnight, and then Allan gave me a spare robe — it was supposed to be knee-length on him and so was around mid-calf on me, although the sleeves were impossibly long — and we went downstairs to snuggle in front of the fire and eat bread pudding and drink some much-needed water. The rain still fell, and that surprised me a little; storms in Southern California usually weren’t quite this intense. But it was all right, since we certainly weren’t going anywhere.
