Chapter One
Bloom stared at the doctor’s report on her sister. She was diagnosed with lung cancer. Her eyes welled up in tears as she read the paper over and over again. She knew this would happen but she didn’t expect it to be so soon. ‘Why now when we are penniless?’ She thought to herself. Her fingers curled up into a tight fist, rumpling the perfectly neat paper at its edges. She folded her legs to her chest, burying her face into the crook of her arm as she sobbed loudly. This was unfair, to her little sister. Her phone tinged and she quickly grab hoping it was a positive response from the loan apps. She wiped away her tears and quickly unlocked her phone, and opened the mail. Dear Bloom2000 We’re sorry to inform you that your loan application fell through. Your qualifications are just not enough and we consider it a risk by loaning this huge amount of money to you. We hope you find other means to get this money. Thank you Yours Sincerely, Harriet Cash App. Bloom stared at her phone in disbelief; what did they mean by a risk by loaning her the money? So what if she had to juggle between five jobs a day, she could repay them back with the loan period. “Maybe if I plead with them, they’ll reconsider.” She said out loud, and began typing away at her phone, begging them that she could repay the loan and she wouldn’t have resorted to borrowing the money if it wasn’t urgent. She even went ahead as snapping her sister’s report to show them that she was genuine. After sending the mail with a more hopeful heart, she closed it and received a notification. The Stone family celebrates their first daughter, Marriet Stone, with a brand-new Rolls-Royce Sweptali. Its been confirmed that the $13.8 million dollars brand new car was custom made for Marriet in honor of her hitting a million followers on her social media handle. Bloom stared at the picture of her green-haired beauty posed in front of the flashy vehicle. Her step sister was getting such an expensive car for doing less than the average man while her younger sister was fighting for her life in the hospital. She remembered the day her father kicked her out of the house, after her mother’s funeral. His words rang like a bell at the back of her mind. “Get out, you filthy rag. Its better you get hit by a truck and die. I hate you!” “Dad! Dad!! Please stop! Please! Where do you want me to go?” Bloom held her father’s legs to stop him from throwing her out with nothing to her name. “Do I look like I care, you bastard?” Her father thundered and when he noticed that Bloom refused to let go of him, he slammed her head to the wall, causing her to have a mild concussion. Later, she felt something dump on her legs and it was about to roll off but when the bundle cried out, Bloom quickly grabbed it. She looked in shock at her three weeks old sister crying in her arms, “What is this, Dad?” “Take your cursed sister with you. I’m not going to raise you bastards with my hard earned money.” Bloom lost it “You mean mum’s hard-earned money!” Her father turned to her with rage and slapped her hard “Don’t you dare talk back to me like that. Your mother gave me all her properties, she trusted me, foolishly might I add.” Bloom shook her head vigorously to remove every thought of that day from her mind. It was the day that everything went downhill. She’d been worried on how she would survive but then her father gave her the responsibility to take care of her sister. At fifteen, what could she do? Not with the giant hole in her heart. Fortunately, they’d found a place in the orphanage and Bloom had worked her ass off for three years to pay for a room. Their reason for not allowing her to stay for free was that she wasn’t an orphan and it would be unfair to the actual orphans. Bloom always knew that it was because they knew her dad was a millionaire and they must have thought that she’d be getting some money from him. She didn’t mind the ill-treatment, that was until the Master of the orphanage had tried to sleep with her and when she’d refused him, threatening to tell his wife, he’d turned the tables around and said she tried to seduce him. The woman literally kicked her out. The next apartment they found was the cause of Blossom’s illness. It was a home of drunkards, strippers, smokers…majorly smokers. You couldn’t even open the door or window for fresh air without taking a big whiff of cigarette smoke. She stared at her phone with renewed courage. Maybe…Just maybe he has changed over the years. 13 years is enough to make a man’s heart soften. So she dialed his number going against the rational part that kept screaming in her head that it was a bad idea. She was about to give up when he picked her call. “Hello,” His deep voice resonated in her ears. She slapped her palm over her mouth to hold back the sob that threatened to escape. “Hello? Who is it?” Did he delete her number? “Dad?” Silence… “Bloom.” Bloom sighed in relief. At least he remembered her name, it wasn’t a warm welcome but it was still something. “Dad, uhm…hi.” Now that she was actually speaking to him, she didn’t know what to say. “I’m sure you didn’t call to say that, get to the point. What do you want?” Okay, so he’s being harsh but at least he hasn’t hang up on her yet. “Dad, I…I need your help.” “I’m listening.” “It’s Blossom. She’s in the hospital, she needs new lungs but to find a donor is hard. The hospital found someone that was willing to sell, but the cost is too high.” “How much do you need?” Bloom thought she might have heard wrong, so she asked “Sir?” “I asked how much you needed Bloom.” Immeasurable joy exploded in her chest and she began to thank her dad profusely “Oh Dad, thank you. I knew you would help. I just need two million dollars.” Her dad chuckled “I never said I would help you Bloom, besides, do you think I have two million dollars laying around like a five dollar bill.” Shock slapped into her chest. “But you asked for the amount?” “I did. But that was it.” “Dad please you have to help me, no matter how hard I work, I just can’t raise that much money. Please.” “Then work harder.” “Why are you so cruel to me?” Bloom bursts into tears, “Marriet got a brand new car, even though she has millions of it already and Blossom can only get a new lung. Can’t you just do this one thing for me?! We are your daughters for f**k sake!” “Marriet is my daughter and she deserves the world. Don’t you dare compare yourself to her, she has more grace and class than you. Good bye Bloom. And don’t ever call my line ever again.”
