Chapter 16 Coming back home was hard. Well, Richard had been hard, but I tried to ignore that (not that I couldn't see it under the steering wheel). I ignored the dozens of motels that lined the road back to the city. I ignored the urge to tell him to stop, that I wasn't ready to go back to my life yet. I didn't say anything. Neither did he. We both did a lot of thinking on the drive back. It still strikes me as strange how much life happens just beyond my own backyard. For two days we were alone in the wilderness, untouched by other people's noises and issues and cars and company. And in the span of an hour we were right back in the thick of it. Life had not paused while we were rutting in the dirt like animals. The world was no better or worse for me having swallowed Richard's semen.
