Wolves Part 2

1244 Words
How are the humans doing in the city? How are the kittens doing in the apartment? Alice put aside her distracting thoughts and chopped the tree with all her heart. When it was almost ten o’clock, there was a pile of cut wood. According to this progress, the required wood can be chopped in one day. After thinking for a long time about what to have for lunch, Alice decided to eat wolf bacon: no more than a catty of meat, just enough to fill her stomach after a meal. After eating and drinking enough, Alice took a nap. She went to the wood pile and cut off all the branches and the slender trunks at the top. These scraps were used to make chicken coops and kennels. The location of the fence was on the right side of the warehouse, very close, and the space on the left was temporarily vacant. The closer the kennel and housing are, the better, so one could immediately notice any disturbances. Alice planned the specifications of the fence, took out the wooden stamp left from the construction of the wooden house, and began to dig a hole. The fence pit was 30 cm deep. The pit did not need to be too deep, so long as it could block the force of the grouse. The height was about one metre, and the distance between each wooden stake was one finger wide, and when filled with leaves and weeds, it could completely prevent the grouse from escaping. Generally speaking, the project volume was not very large. After breakfast, Alice continued to chop trees. While chopping the trees, Alice picked up some squirrels’ stored grains to feed the chickens. Alice didn’t know if there were many squirrels there, but she had not eaten roast squirrels for a long time, and she felt nostalgic. Cutting down trees is a very boring job. It took Alice three days to gather the required wood. In the early morning of the fourth day, there were 5 lame grouse and two lame rabbits in the pen, and the rest were trapped during the past few days. Alice who had been busy for several days, decided to reward herself well. During this period of time, all she ate was wolf bacon, and she was really tired of it. There are just two radishes left, so she killed two more grouse and prepared a simple r****h and chicken soup. Alice washed the r****h skin and cut it into sections, blanched it with the cleaned grouse, then moisten the pan with deer oil and fried the venison dry. After decocting, she added water then put the steamed grouse into the stew after the water boiled. When it came out of the pot, she seasoned it with a little salt and pepper. Generally, the longer the soup is simmered, the more fragrant it would be. The r****h and chicken soup needed to be simmered for at least three hours to bring out the deliciousness of the ingredients. Alice waited until the soup was ready, and went back to the cabin to study the next step. It was time for the bacon to be harvested, and it was time for them to move into their new home. By the time Alice took back the bacon and sausages that were drying, the sky was already getting dark. Without the densely packed bacon in the wooden house, it suddenly became quite empty, looking a little deserted. The space of ten square metres was not too big or small, and it seemed a bit crude to put a wooden bed in there all alone. Alice decided to build some furniture. Before that, though, there were more important things. Alice walked around the room a few times and spotted the corner of the back room. This location is the furthest from the bed, perfect for a fireplace. Alice took the measurements and went out to drink soup. A pot of delicious chicken soup not only supplemented Alice’s physical strength, but also cleared up Alice’s exhaustion. Alice stood up, and went to fetch water from the woods with an iron bucket. There was a well in the woods. The surface was frozen, and spring water was inside. It was getting dark now, and if it was not necessary, Alice decided she would not go to the bamboo forest at night to court certain death. The bamboo forest in the evening was very quiet, and the dormant beasts were surging. Alice removed the fallen leaves from the ice, broke the ice, and filled a bucket of water. Just as she was about to leave, she heard a low whimpering sound. It sounded a bit like a dog, but there were no dogs in that place, therefore it was a wolf. Alice held the axe, slowly crawling towards the source of the sound and touched it. Climbing up the small slope, she saw a gray old wolf, limping, stepping on the snow, lying on the bamboo leaves, l*****g the wound on its little foot. With the cold wind blowing, the old wolf was whimpering, with unfathomable green eyes. The wolf also found Alice and calmed down its panic. He was looking at Alice with his eyes, and the two pairs of eyes looked at each other. They were wary of each other. The wolf had yellow-gray mottled hair. Its limbs were coarse and thick, the paws were clasped on the pile of bamboo leaves, and its stomach that had not eaten for a long time was grumbling. Alice also saw a trace of despair and old exhaustion in the eyes of the old wolf. After that, Alice's eyes became brighter. She quietly leaned towards it, and at the same time took out the axe she was carrying, which aroused the vigilance of the old wolf. The old wolf roared lowly, Alice rushed towards the old wolf, it seemed to have expected this move, when Alice was about to pounce on it, it jumped up from the lying bamboo leaves and grass, and rushed towards Alice. Biting away, Alice was a little flustered, engaging a wolf for the first time, underestimating the wolf's fighting experience, but luckily collided with the old wolf sideways. Alice felt dizzy and fell into the bamboo forest, and got two thin bamboos. Alice got up quickly, picked up the axe again, and rushed towards the old wolf. Although the old wolf was injured, he had four legs and ran very fast, jumping far away. Alice looked at the old wolf running away, and screamed out "f**k!" angrily. Seeing that Alice could not pose the slightest threat to it, the old wolf slowed down and walked slowly with a limp. It only jumped up when the angry Alice slowly approached it. When Alice approached the old wolf, she didn't want to repeat the same mistakes. Alice had developed a new way to deal with the old wolf. Alice still miscalculated. When the old wolf jumped up, he made a few snowballs with his hind feet and threw them backwards. The snowballs hit Alice on the head. Alice's head was buzzing. The old wolf became blurred in its vision. At this time, the old wolf was standing and urinating on a stone, and his whole body felt much more relaxed. Alice watched the old wolf triumphantly disappear from sight. Exhausted, Alice went back to the house, took a hot bath, and slept until dawn.
