Chapter 1 - Life as we know it
It's June 12th, a week before before my 16th birthday. Today is just like any other day. I find the most boring clothes in my wardrobe to wear to school, which isn't really that hard when your dad is the minister of the local church and your mum is on every local committee known to man. I don't mind, it makes it easier for me to hide from the world and the bullies at school.
I head downstairs for breakfast, just as mum yells hurry up Alex! You're going to be late for school! I roll my eyes, lucky she can't see me, that would be extra psalms for a week if she did! "Coming mum!" I yell back at her, as I grab an apple from the fruit basket and sit at the table. I really don't feel hungry, but I know if I don't eat something before I leave the house, she will get mad at me, and that's never a good thing, as she always punishes me more then she does my little brother, the golden child.
'Hurry up and eat your breakfast Alex, I need you to walk your brother to school today' mum says as she potters around the kitchen, cleaning up the mess from making the spoilt brat, I mean Kaiden, breakfast. I've tried talking to dad about it numerous times, but he says that the lord makes us love everyone equally and that I mustn't be jealous of my brother because he is unique. Apparently thats the diplomatically correct way of saying the sun shines out of his arse and he is a spoilt rotten, selfish, little s**t.
'Well I am leaving now, so squirt, I hope you're ready, otherwise you'll have to take him to school mum' I say as I dump my half eaten apple in the food scraps bucket, pick up my back pack and head for the front door. My brother whines to mum about my leaving when he isn't even finished watching his cartoon show, but I don't catch all of it as im already out the front door and accidentally slam it on my way through. 'Oops" I chuckle to myself as I keep walking and meet up with my one and only friend, Georgia, who is waiting at the corner of my street. We've been friends since kindy when Harper, someone from Adrian's band of suck up's stole my book and she kicked them in the shins and made them give it back to me.
She is already listening to music when I catch up with her, which isn't uncommon given she dances every other day at the local dance school. We nod heads and keep walking. I haven't even bothered to stop and see if the chosen one has caught up yet. Honestly, I don't even care at this point. I woke up not feeling the greatest, but now I feel like s**t. I text Georgia and ask if she has any pandol since there is no point trying to get her attention with some new Katy Perry song blasting through her ears. She stops walking and turns to me, and signs 'are you okay? You never ask for pain killers, even that time you broke your arm and had to have it manipulated'. I turn around and sure enough, there is the chosen one kicking at the ground not a couple of steps behind us. I sigh, turn back to face her and sign back 'No. I don't think I am hey. I really don't feel well. My head is pounding and I think im going to be sick.' Neither of us are hearing impaired, but whenever the chosen one is around, we always talk in sign language because otherwise he goes running back to mum and dad and tells mum everything we spoke about. She signs back 'you look like s**t too. Can you wait 5 minutes till we can loose the chosen one?'. I nod my head and keep walking.
Five minutes later, the chosen one is at school and we are sitting at our table under the tree in the school court yard. Georgia pulls out a packet of Panadol from her back pack and chucks it my way, before saying 'you really look like s**t. Are you sure you should be at school today?'. I shrug my shoulders and nod, causing my head to pound and my half an apple to threaten to vacate my body via my mouth. I lay my head against the table and mutter 'this is going to be one long arse day'.
The bell rings and I cry out in pain as the noise from the bell ricochets through my head. I scream out and the last thing I remember before passing out is hearing someone muttering 'hello Alexis, i'm your wolf'.
