Alexa
I trembled as I glanced at Kendell. Does that mean he now knows my secret?
Was Brad caught? Or did he sell me out for a few coins? Doesn't he want revenge anymore?
I settled myself, determined not to appear weak in front of Kendell.
"My past," I scoffed as I took a glass of water to my lips.
"Yes, Alexa," he said, staring me dead in the face, "About you and Norman," he replied.
"I found out you were mated to him, but he rejected you for another."
I sighed slowly. I thought I was caught. "Thank you, Moon Goddess," I muttered, barely above a whisper. "Finally, I can see that you are on my side."
"What about that is bad news?" I retorted, feeling my heartbeat slow down. My hands were wet with sweat.
"Was he the one that pushed you here for sacrifice?" he asked, his face slightly turned toward me.
"My past is not your business, Kendell. And don't go prying," I pouted.
Kendell's laughter filled the atmosphere. All I did to get to his core only seemed to bring him nearer to me.
"Feisty, aren't you?"
"I like you," he confessed. "I have been mate-less for years, and I thought I wouldn't get one, but then you came along."
"Brave, feisty—just the combination of my perfect woman," he smirked after giving his boring confession.
"This perfect woman before you will be your end," I said to myself.
...
It had been two days since my meal with Kendell. I was mostly indoors, behind this gilded cage.
Nana and Rose stepped in most of the time to attend to any need I might have.
But today, it was just me and my hairdresser. She took her time brushing out my lengthy brunette hair, adding more lavender oil to it.
"Lucy," I called out, causing her to stop in her tracks.
"Yes, Your Majesty," she bowed.
"Alexa is fine," I assured her, but she didn’t budge a bit.
"How long have you been in this place?"
"For a few years, Your Majesty."
"Can I confide in you?" I asked, half-expecting her to say no.
"Yes, Your Majesty," she said as she adjusted her brown hair behind her ears.
"Nothing you say to me will be heard from the mouth of another," she added. "Not even His Highness."
That’s nice, I thought.
"What usually happens to the sacrifices brought here?" I asked, my eyes searching pleadingly for answers on her face.
"I don't really know, Your Majesty," she said, her face downcast.
"His Highness—" she stopped halfway.
"Please, go on. I won't report you to him."
"He uses them to ease himself, and I can't really account for the others," she finally said.
"So it was very possible that Kendell abused Ciara before killing her," The thought rang like a bell in my head.
"Your Highness, please don't tell His Highness about this," she pleaded.
"Don't worry, Lucy. Besides, it’s not a secret. It is something widely known about him," I retorted.
"Go to bed, Lucy." I turned to her as she went out.
I adjusted my black lacy nightgown as I admired myself in the mirror.
"Poor thing, so all this effort Lucy put into making me up was all going to waste."
The door to my chamber was not properly closed, and I saw that as an opportunity.
I searched through the room Nana had told me she was staying in. "Nana, Nana!" I called her name slowly, but repeatedly.
"Damn this girl. Now that the coast was clear, she was nowhere to be found."
I walked slowly through the palace halls, dodging as many guards as possible, ignoring the cold that slapped against my skin.
"I can see you are playing hide and seek, aren't you?" a chilling voice rang out.
Oh damn! I was caught. I turned slowly to face the voice. He was slightly taller than usual, well-built, and I had seen him with Kendell before.
"My name is George," he said, stretching out his hand for a handshake.
Not in my wildest dreams had I imagined this. I thought I was going to get scolded or reported to Kendell, but this guy over here was offering me a handshake.
"My name is Alexa," I played along.
"Welcome, sister-in-law, to the Silver Wolves pack," he announced.
So this was Kendell's brother? They seemed nothing alike.
"Your Majesty, I don't think Alpha Kendell will be pleased to see you here, especially in a dress like that."
I had just become more aware of myself—I was only in my sleepwear.
"Oh, thank you, George. I will go to my room now," I said as I briskly walked past him, only to collide with broad shoulders.
"Ouch!" I exclaimed as I held my head.
"How about I take you to my room instead?" His voice sent chills down my body, and suddenly my throat felt dry.
"The first night was a mistake. And the second is a night I will never allow to happen."
"Goodnight!" George said and quickly left the scene.
"I guess my Luna decided to do some sightseeing," his hoarse voice cut through the silence, his golden pupils glimmering with desire.
"Are you trying to seduce me, Luna?" He shot the question my way.
"You wish," I said as I quickly brought my hands to my chest to hide my protruding n*****s, which were visible through the dress I was wearing. "Stupid me," I mentally face-palmed myself. "What was I thinking, leaving my chambers in my nightwear?"
"Black!" he said.
"What?"
"My favorite color," he added.
"Yeah, like your soul," I responded, defiance running through me.
Before I could say another word, Kendell carried me, leading me somewhere.
My constant struggle in his arms felt like singing a lullaby to a child. I was no match for his strength.
In no short time, we were in his room, and the door was locked.
Kendell had agreed to give me a room after our last meal, but I didn't know what sick game he was playing now.
He went to the bed, stripping himself of his shirt, showcasing his perfectly toned abs. His skin was so silky, I felt like running my hands through it.
"Go on, Luna," he said.
Was he expecting me to get undressed or what?
I stood rooted to the spot, staring at him.
Hissing loudly, he said, "Do I have to spell everything out to you, Alexa?"
He ran his hands through his silver hair as he adjusted himself on his luxurious black bed.
"Alright, Alexa. Show me your special skills!"
So not only was he a King, but a hussy wolf as well.
Fine then. He wasn't the only one who knew how to play dirty.
