# Episode 1– The Girl Who Smiled Too Much The cops hadn't even cut the sirens before the phones came out. Valentina Ashford stood on top of a three-million-dollar Lamborghini like it was a runway. Hot pink dress. Long platinum-blonde hair cascading down her back. Black lipstick. Smudged eyeliner. Champagne in one hand. The city lights in the other. She laughed so hard her throat burned. This wasn't new. Two days ago she'd been bailed out. Apparently, she missed the VIP cell enough to come back. "It's *art!*" she yelled as two officers dragged her off the car. "It's called *performance art,* Officer!" The cameras loved her. By sunrise, every platform had the video. **VALENTINA ASHFORD ARRESTED AGAIN.** **SPOILED. RECKLESS. A DISGRACE TO THE ASHFORD NAME.** People hated her. People watched her. People couldn't stop talking about her. And somehow... That made her more famous than half the celebrities in Hollywood. --- By the time she got home, the mansion was quiet. Dinner had already started. Richard Ashford sat at the head of the table, cutting his steak with mechanical precision. Victor didn't even pretend to hide his irritation. "She's going to ruin us, Richard." Like Valentina wasn't sitting three seats away. "The VANTEX merger is hanging by a thread." Richard kept eating. Not a word. Not a glance. Just silence. Liana reached across the table and gently squeezed Valentina's hand. "She's still young, Daddy." Her smile was warm. "She'll learn." Valentina smiled back. Perfect. Sweet. Empty. Beneath the table, her nails dug so deeply into her palm that crescent marks appeared in her skin. The only person who looked at her... Was her mother. And even that look carried more worry than love. --- ### The Next Morning **VANTEX TOWER — 40th Floor** The boardroom felt like a funeral. Twenty executives. Cold coffee. Stacks of financial reports. One empty chair. The future owner of Ashford Holdings was already over an hour late. Again. Finally, one director snapped. "Mr. Ashford, your daughter is going to destroy this merger!" The doors burst open. Six-centimeter red heels clicked confidently across the marble floor. Then came the dress. Black. Tight. Elegant. Far more revealing than anything appropriate for a board meeting. Designer shopping bags hung from one arm. Her phone from the other. Lipstick slightly crooked. Hair perfect. Valentina Ashford. She smiled as if everyone had gathered to celebrate her arrival. "Sorry," she said brightly. "Traffic." Traffic... From Bergdorf's. If she was going to be publicly humiliated... She intended to be humiliated looking expensive. The room fell silent. Disgust. Annoyance. Embarrassment. Pity. Twenty different expressions. Not one welcoming. Then she noticed him. At the far end of the table. Away from everyone else. Vince Vantex. Tailored black suit. Perfect posture. Sharp jawline. Dark eyes fixed on his laptop. Beautiful enough to belong on magazine covers. Cold enough to freeze oceans. For one ridiculous second... Her heart skipped. Idiot. She dropped into the empty chair. Crossed one leg over the other. Smiled. "So..." "What did I miss?" Without lifting his eyes from the screen, Vince answered. "One hour." "Twelve minutes." "In exactly eighteen more, our stock price drops again because of your latest arrest." His voice was calm. Almost bored. Valentina laughed. "You counted?" "I'm flattered." Victor sighed. "Valentina." "Apologize." She tilted her head. "For what?" "For arriving late to my own life?" Silence. Richard still said nothing. Then Vince finally looked at her. Just once. His gaze moved over her dress. Her makeup. Her hair. Her smile. No desire. No disgust. No curiosity. Nothing. Like she was a coffee stain someone forgot to clean. "Miss Ashford." His voice remained painfully calm. "This merger is worth eight billion dollars." "Your father's company is losing value every day." "Mine isn't." "So perhaps next time..." "...choose fewer headlines." "And better decisions." The room froze. The words landed harder than a slap. Valentina's smile never moved. "Eight billion?" She reached toward the plate in the center. Picked up a pastel pink macaron. "Guess I should charge TMZ more for the publicity." She took a bite. Chewed slowly. Licked a little icing from her fingertip. Under the table... Her hands wouldn't stop shaking. Liana leaned toward Vince. Gentle as always. "Don't be too hard on her." "She's trying." For the first time all morning... Vince's expression softened. Only slightly. "Thank you, Liana." "Could you walk me through the Project Paragize projections afterward?" "Of course." Valentina watched the exchange. Watched how easily he smiled at Liana. How naturally he listened to her. How invisible she became. The macaron tasted like cardboard. The meeting continued. People discussed her. Her mistakes. Her scandals. Her future. As though she weren't sitting in the room. And Vince... Never looked at her again.
