Just How Far

All night as the party descended into the early morning, Lisa could not help but wonder what the letter said? But she would not leave the party no matter how badly she wanted to see what was in that letter. But what bugged her even more was the fact of whom the letter could have come from? Maybe Betty dropped it off saying how she could not make it? **Knock** **Knock** The servant answered the door and in walked Betty. Lisa rushed to the middle of the floor and took Betty by the arm and ushered her into the empty hall just out of ear shot and wandering eyes? Have you lost your mind? Lisa calm down? Don't you tell me to calm down? Did I not tell you to be here earlier? What is the matter with you? I'm sorry I had something I needed to do that just took a bit longer than I had intended. I'm here now? **Mocking** I'm here now? And so what if you are? You show up all fashionably late. Do you get that I kept your boys out of the prison system because I thought their mother had potential, but maybe I was wrong about you? What are you saying? Was I wrong about you? I'm beginning to think that I made a huge mistake by thinking you and I could do good business? Are you serious about all this because I was what? A few hours late to a party. I never wanted to be here, in the first place. Now I'm being threatened and black mailed by a freaking judge? By a woman who is supposed to be a respectable judge, but instead you are using my only two sons' freedom just to black mail me, how dare you. *Slap* *Slap* **SLAP** Now you watch whom it is you think you are speaking to in that disrespectful tone? What I am saying, Betty, is maybe my judgment was wrong in all of this? Meaning what, Lisa, just say it? Maybe the lost charges and the misplaced court records may have finally been found, and we can now go back to trial for your two sons? You wouldn't dare? Do not test me? Do not forget I am the one who holds the key to not one but both of your children's faits? Don't f**k with me. Next time I tell you something, you had better do it like I told you or there will be consequences and I know you would not like the punishment. You can go now. I'm sick of seeing your face? Lisa, please I'm sorry? I agree with you darling, now get out of my house. Betty turned to walk toward the front door, but Lisa called to her before she opened the door. Betty, before you go? The next time I tell you something, you had better do just that. Yes Lisa, What did you call me? Excuse me? My apologies, Yes Judge Lisa Jordan. Betty walked out the door. Lisa, honey, where did you go? I've been worried sick? Leon, please enough already with all the worries? I can not help it? I am fine. Sure you are? You don't look fine to me? You don't believe me? Why are you looking at me like that? What? OK, so you don't believe me when I tell you everything is fine? No, that is not it. You know it? Then can you stop already? Fine if that's what you really want. It is. You got it, see it your way. Leon walks off. The last guest had finally left and Leon decided that he needed to get away, so he left way before the party ended. Lisa retired to her bathroom where her maid drew her bath, she undressed and slowly sank into the hot steaming water. When she emerged, her maid stood beside the tub holding a serving plate containing two Narco pills and a glass of white wine. Small chopped up square cheese bites. Thank you darling, you are such a doll. The maid only smiled. Please put that down and wash my back, as the maid scrubs her back. She catches the young maid's wrist, startling her? Sorry, sorry, the maid quickly shouts? Hush Lisa shouts with her ear in the direction of the hallway? Who else is in the house? Me and you? So no one else? No, only you and me, miss? Quickly hand me my robe? Hurry Dalliea, she quickly slips on her robe, then her house shoes, she digs in the medicine cabinet and opens a secret compartment and slips her hand inside, pulling out a custom-made all gold 45, with diamond trimming and a silver trigger. She raises her finger to her lips, gesturing to the servant to keep quiet. She silently opens the bathroom door? Lock the door as soon as I leave. The young maid nods her head to Lisa, acknowledging that she understood. Soon as Lisa stepped into the hall and shut the door, she heard the lock click into place. She slowly crept down the hall to where she thought she heard the noise coming from. She swept the whole house and couldn't understand what the noise was or where it actually came from. She knocked on the bathroom door, and she announced that everything was fine and that she could come out. The door slowly opened until Lisa was standing in front of a wet-faced child. What is the matter you stop that crying right now and go to bed? Without argument or protest, the young maid walked down the hall to where her and her mom occupied a section of the house, she went into her room, pulled back her cover and crawled into bed and fell right to sleep. Lisa checked the perimeter of the property at least four times that night. She couldn't shake the feeling that someone had come into her house, and not only that she felt like someone was watching her from some corner of her home. She was about to call it a day because in less than three hours the sun would begin to rise. Then she remembered about the letter on her desk in her office. She rushed into the office and looked at the place where the servant said he put the letter. Taking no more time to wait without even sitting down, she rips the envelope open, pulling out a single piece of paper, she stares at it for quite some time before crumpling it in to a ball in her hand. She slaps the paper on the desk, opens her top drawer and pulls a glass bowl out of it. Not concerned with shattering the crystal bowl, she slams it on the top of the desk table. She reached back inside the drawer this time retrieving a box of matches. Placing the ball of paper in the bowl, Lisa takes a single match from the box, sliding it along the side. When the match was lit, Lisa let the stick fall from her fingers into the crystal bowl. She watched the paper burn a slow burn but as the fire spread over the paper the words' spread inside Lisa, and she was now filled with anger, hate and rage. Dear Imposter; Lisa Jordan You are a fake, and I will not rest until you are destroyed just as you destroyed and took from me. You and I know the truth, don't we?
