Echoes of the Eternal

The throne room was bathed in the pale light of dawn. Aryan sat motionless on the throne, eyes fixed on the empty space where the crown once rested. The black crystal blade lay discarded at his feet, cracked and lifeless. The system had gone silent after the cycle restarted. No more chimes. No more notifications. No more hunger. Only the weight of what he had become. Renn stood at the doorway, armor dented, face lined with exhaustion. “My lord… the nobles are gathering in the hall. They want to know if the empire continues.” Aryan did not move. “It continues.” Lira entered behind Renn, sword sheathed, eyes sharp. “The army is restless. They felt the shift. They know the First is gone. They know you’re… different.” Aryan’s voice was low. “They will adapt.” Kael, Mira, and Tor followed. They knelt without being told. Aryan finally looked at them. “You are still my council.” Renn bowed his head. “We serve.” Aryan rose. The palace shook once—subtle, like a heartbeat. The system returned. [Cycle Master – Level 2 Unlocked] You may now select a successor host Or remain sole Devourer New Objective: Devour the Divine Pantheon Reward: Godhood Aryan looked at the sky through the open balcony. The gods were silent. But he felt their gaze. He walked to the balcony. The city below was waking. People moved like ants. Merchants opened shops. Children laughed. Life continued. Aryan raised his hand. Shadow Dominion – Activated. Shadows rose from the floor—ghosts of defeated enemies, loyal servants now. They formed a circle around him. Aryan spoke. “Find the temples.” The shadows vanished. He turned to the council. “We leave for the Eastern Mountains. The God of Betrayal waits.” Renn frowned. “The temples are guarded by divine knights. The gods will not fall easily.” Aryan smiled—cold, certain. “They will fall.” The army gathered in the courtyard. Ten thousand men. No banners. No war cries. Just silence. Aryan walked out. The people watched from windows. Some cheered. Some hid. Aryan raised his hand. The system chimed. [Throne Aura – Level 2] All within 200 meters feel absolute obedience The crowd knelt. Aryan spoke. “I am your emperor.” The crowd echoed. “We serve.” He walked through them. No one dared touch him. The army marched. The capital faded behind them. The road to the Eastern Mountains was long. Three days. On the first night, they camped in a valley. Aryan sat by the fire. Renn joined him. “You restarted the cycle. Why?” Aryan looked into the flames. “Because I am the cycle.” Lira sat on his other side. “And when the gods are devoured?” Aryan looked at her. “I become the only god.” Kael grunted. “And us?” Aryan looked at them all. “You are free to leave. Or stay. The choice is yours.” No one left. The second day brought rain. The road turned to mud. The army marched on. Aryan walked at the front. No horse. No protection. Just him. The third day dawned clear. The Eastern Mountains rose ahead—jagged, dark, holy. The Temple of Lies stood at the peak. Divine knights waited. Golden armor. Holy blades. They charged. Aryan raised his hand. God Devour – Activated. The knights froze. Their essence flowed into him. Golden light. Divine power. The knights fell. Gray. Lifeless. Aryan walked past them. The temple doors opened. The God of Betrayal waited. Tall. Cloaked in lies. Face shifting. “You came.” Aryan stepped forward. “I came.” The god laughed. “You think you can devour a god?” Aryan raised his hand. Cycle Master – Activated. The god’s form flickered. Aryan spoke. “You are the first.” Power surged. The god screamed. Divine essence flooded Aryan. The temple shook. The god dissolved. Aryan stood. The system chimed. [God Devour – Success] Divine Power +1 New Ability: Lie Devour (Lv.1) – Consume lies to gain truth HP: 100000/100000 → 200000/200000 Aryan looked at the empty altar. The empire waited. The gods waited. He smiled. “One down.” The cycle continued. The Devourer ascended.
