As the secretary continued to explain the schools layout to the new guy, Olivia scanned him to identify his destined clique. He had on a loose pair of jeans, a buttoned up polo, I grey branded hoody and a pair of fresh sneakers on his feet. He had dark hair that framed his face. The nice hair and all around good looks spun the wheel in my head and landed on a popular. The popular people were always happy, got a car as soon as they could drive, had a relationship with another popular person, always got invited to all the parties and we're the people that other people wanted to be or date. The exact opposite of Olivia.
The secretary droned on explaining the floor
plan of the school to the guy.
"All even numbered rooms are on the first floor of each building, and all odd numbers are on the second floor of each building. All stairways are here, here, here and there. There are elevators here, here and here but unless you are in a wheelchair or have a different medical problem that requires limited mobility I suggest you stay away from them dear. Any room number that has a letter is in the gym wing." Olivia crossed her arms and checked her phone. There were still 38 minutes left of second period, maybe she could get back before the bell went off.
The guy glanced back and their eyes met. He smiled at her and she was mortified to have been caught staring. She dropped her gaze and looked around the room to disguise the gaze she had just had fixed on him.
The secretary snapped her fingers to get the
guys attention back on the map.
Mr Ortega wandered out of his office with an
empty coffee mug tightly in his grip.
He stopped when he saw Olivia was still there. He then saw the secretary with the new guy. He turned to look at Olivia again. She could see the gears turning in his head. He was plotting something and that never ended well for her.
He moved over to stand beside her and waited for the secretary to finish with the new guy.
She tried to edge away, but he put his free hand on her shoulder with a firm grip to keep her from moving.
When the secretary was finished with the new guy she wrote him a pass and Mr Ortega pulled Olivia towards him.
"Are you a new student?" He asked him.
The guy nodded
"Welcome to Ridge High." He said pumping the guys hand like a used car salesman. "I'm Mr Ortega, guidance counsellor, if you ever need to talk my office is that one right there."
"Hi I'm Ben, Ben brown."
"If you think you're sane, he'll convince you
that you're not." Olivia mumbled.
Ben heard her and hid his chuckle with a
cough.
"I know it can take a while to get your bearings in a new place, Olivia, why don't you show Ben where his first class is?"
"Do I have to?"
Mr Ortega chuckled and squeezed her
shoulder.
"Olivia I know that you are eager to get back
to class but I am sure that you can spare a few minutes to help a fellow classmate."
She wanted to argue but she took the easy
way out.
"Sure, it's no trouble."
She got her pass from the secretary and
nodded at Ben to follow her.
Mary saw the new guy scan her. She wanted to tell him not to bother because her appearance wouldn't impress him.
She had long black naturally curly hair that she had up in a high messy pony most days, she was wearing a black flowing dress that came halfway down her thigh with black tights, black boots and a leather jacket although most days she'd just wear leggings or ripped jeans with a baggy T-shirt.
Her eyes were an emerald green and her lips were constantly painted with a crimson lipstick.
Her waist was snatched and her bum and
thighs were plump.
Everything about her just screamed
dysfunctional teenager.
"What room?" She continued walking ahead
as Ben tried to catch up to her.
"What?" He asked her catching his breath.
"What room are you going to?" She asked
again.
"Oh erm let me check, could you slow down a
little?"
She slowed her pace a little but not
completely.
"Room 210" he spoke.
She continued walking ahead slightly feeling
as if she were a tour guide. That annoyed her.
She was the most frightening girl in school, that usually exempted her showing guys where their classes were, school dances and especially yearbook signings.
He glanced at her trying to keep up still.
"What year are you?" He asked her.
"A junior" she said.
"Oh, I'm a junior too." He said
She smirked at how breathy his voice had
gotten from trying to keep up with her.
"Fascinating, this is you."
She jerked around and pointed her finger at
the door to his class.
"Thanks, I guess I'll see you around?"
"Yeah sure, whatever." She was already turning the other way. Glad that she was rid of that guy.
He called out to her. "Are you this unfriendly
to everybody, or am I just a lucky guy today?"
"Your'e lucky day. I'm usually scary."
She said as she walked away.
