Chapter Two
Keiera's POV
Atchu!
I sneezed for the umpteenth time, my nose running and my head spinning like a wheel. I felt my temperature and it was a bit high, I shivered as the cold invaded my immune system, rendering them inactive and useless. I could taste the bitterness in my tongue and my pregnancy seemed to aggravate things, making it worse than it should.
"Miss Keiera, the Alpha demands your presence, dinner is served and all that's left is your presence, Miss Andrea is awaiting you as well." Aubree; a maid informed me.
Snuggling against my duvet which I was reluctant to let go, I drowsily nodded, I was feeling stuffy, hot and cold at the same time but I knew this was a result of walking in the rain and catching a cold, my nose had turned red and I had to stuff in some tissue paper in one nostril to prevent the watery discharge from running down my nose.
Reluctantly, I dragged my aching body out of my room down the stairs to the dinning room, everyone seems to be awaiting my presence as they turned to wards my direction the moment I got there, I could.tell that their stares were boring into my skin, making me a life prey. I looked horrible as I put on a heavy wool sweater that stopped just below my knee and my entire face was flushed.
"I'm sorry to keep you all waiting." I apologized weakly and a maid helped me take my seat.
Clarice gave me one of her disdainful stares but I was too weak to take it personally. I was meant to seat opposite or beside my husband but he was already seated beside Andrea and I had to sit opposite him, I watched as Clarice served the meal and nudged Kyan to pass the servette to Andrea while I got a huge portion in my plate.
"There's no way she could possibly eat all of that, she isn't pregnant." Kyan protested, jokingly.
His words made warmth wash all over me, when our eyes met I could see a hint of care in them that soon disappeared as he turned to Andrea instead. I sniffed loudly, I had slept all afternoon and missed the entire party because I caught a cold. The plan was to tell Kyan of my pregnancy as soon as possible in order to determine my fate especially after his first love was here.
Atchu!
I sneezed severally and couldn't eat, everyone seemed irritated by my constant sneezing and Kyan loudly dropped his fork and spoon.
"Why are you sneezing that much? You look unwell. I told the maids to being you some cold medicine earlier on, you should be fine by now or in a better shape." Kyan complained.
"I'm sorry." I apologized.
"Don't be so harsh on her Kyan, it's my fault she caught a cold, I should have sacrificed my own umbrella instead, I'm sorry." Andrea apologized, her tone emphatic and apologetic.
"Nonsense! There was no way it's your fault Miss Andrea, I'm sure she'll be fine." Clarice interjected.
I gave Andrea a ghost of a smile and stared down at the food, I suddenly got irritated by the smell and decided against not eating it.
"I'm sorry but I'm no longer hungry, I'll like to retire to my room now." I announced and without waiting for anyone's permission, I took my leave.
Turning uncomfortably around and groaning, I felt pain shot through every inch of my body. The cold medications emitted a sickening smell and I was scared of the baby's condition so I couldn't take the drugs. Not sooner did I fall asleep that my door suddenly burst open, I turned to see Kyan and Andrea walk into my room, Kyan looking angry.
My throat suddenly felt parched and I was thirsty, very thirsty. I looked around and there was no water in my room, the mini fridge was empty as well and the only water there was a glass of water which the maid had brought in hours ago but I craved for cold water so I forcefully got out of bed once more and went to the kitchen. After gulping down a whole bottle of water, I stepped out only to see Andrea and Kyan, about to head out as well.
"How are you feeling Keiera?" Andrea asked, worriedly.
"I'm fine." I said, dismissively.
Kyan stared at me suspiciously and I forced a smile.
"I'll just go back to my room." I announced and began to walk away, every step I took was awfully painful and I found myself swaying sideways, I suddenly felt dizzy and lost balance but was caught by a firm hand. I looked up to see Kyan, staring down at me with an indifferent look, he picked me up like I was weightless and began to walk towards my room, without saying a word.
"I'm fine, you don't need to-"
"You're not." His voice echoed and I kept mute.
With Andrea trailing right behind him, Kyan gently let me down on the bed and his expression darkened as he saw the untouched medications on the table.
"You didn't take your medications and lie down in bed all day? What's this? Are you a kid or something? Why are you bent on creating a scene?" He scolded, instantly.
I wanted to speak but my to gue cleaved to the roof of my mouth. I couldn't find the strength to defend myself nor tell him his seed was the mastermind behind my reluctance to get any better.
"You shouldn't raise your voice at her Kyan, she may be allergic to the taste or smell of it, remember that one time I took cold pills and I ended up going unconscious because the smell was horrible?" Andrea interjected, speaking in my favor.
I wanted to thank her but I knew it was a facade, her eyes glistened with mischief and she winked when she talked, it was obvious that she was trying to get Kyan to think she was a better person. After all; she was his lover before he married me and I was his wife in name only, everyone was aware of the fact that the two were still in love and the only reason I was his wife was because of his grandmother, it was an open secret.
"You should still take care of-"
"Kyan, yelling would only make it worse, let it be, I'm sure she'll take them now and didn't intend to make you worried, isn't it? Keiera?" Andrea interrupted once more and I nodded, anything to make them leave me at the moment.
Kyan stared long at me.
"I'll get you different medicine and ask the maids to bring it up to your room." Kyan announced and walked away.
I inhaled deeply, welcome to my married life.
